Games that a three year old can play?
Rev. Rob replied to jetset's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I grew up with only Atari 2600 too, and Missile Command was my favorite game. This generation of kids is different. They're also exposed to more modern gaming. When my son was three I tried to get him into game that are more retro, like Minesweeper, Breakout, Centipede, Galaga, and et cetera. "Daddy, what's that triangle supposed to be?" It's a ship. "It doesn't look like a space ship." You have to pretend. "This is boring." I exposed him to Genesis first, so that ruined Atari for him. Platformers are better for younger kids. They can explore and there's not a lot of pressure if they take their time. Galaga and Pac-Man are challenging games. Sure, they can shoot at stuff and have fun for a few minutes, but they'll be dead almost instantly. -
I've never actually seen a ROM of this, I've only heard rumor. It sounds good, so I am trying to find it. The concept is like breakout, but the blocks are in the center of the screen separating it. Players are on each side of the screen. The catch is that if player 1's ball goes to player 2's side, and player 2 does not save it, then it's lost and player 1 loses a ball. Anyone hear of this? Was it ever made? It's been years since someone told me about it back on the old IGN boards (when it was free). It was supposed to be for 2600.

Another vote for NES. But I have played the Tengen version on emulation, and it's way better.

Worst games you were stuck with for the whole weekend
Rev. Rob replied to Rev. Rob's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Here's another: 688 Attack Sub This was worse than that Abrams tank game for Genesis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_4ZLUfC8RY Whole weekend ruined. I mean, just try enjoying this game as an 11 year old. -
Ya, a portable console, like GP2X, that I understand.

Mentis Cohorts - Four Odyssey Games in One
Rev. Rob replied to Rev. Rob's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Time for an update. Below are the game rules as copied from the instructions, which have been completed. The next update will include images of the prototype box, screen overlay, and the whole game set. At that point, pre-orders will begin. That will be within a few days. If anyone visits other forums where collectors go, I would thank you to post a link to this thread. After all the costs, I am thinking around $55 shipped domestically, $65 outside the US. Also, the Q&A has been updated. There are four modes of play for Mentis Cohorts: 1. Mentis - Two player strategy board game. 2. Mentis Strike - Same as Mentis, but utilizes the Odyssey for additional game play elements. 3. Ego Mentis - A singer player strategy game similar to peg solitaire that only requires the game peices. 4. Mentis Siege - An Odyssey version of Breakout. Also single player. SETUP 1. Have available GAME CARD #5 and the Master Control Unit. 2. Place the SCREEN OVERLAY into the upper center portion of the screen, at least three inches from the top of the screen (ILLUST. A). 3. Set the desired SPEED by using the SPEED Control on your Master Control Unit. Turn it to the LEFT for the slowest setting. Turn it to the RIGHT for faster paced game play. PREPARATION FOR PLAY 1. Set up the game board so that DARK occupies the area from I4 through K7 and LIGHT occupies the area from E9 through G11. MENTIS PLAY 1. The objective of the game is to incapacitate the enemy. 2. One player is designated the DARK and another player is designated the LIGHT. In the battle of DARK and LIGHT, DARK strikes first. 3. Players can only move one piece at a time, and may only move if they first jump over one of their own pieces. Jumps can be made vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. 4. In order to take an opponent’s piece, it must be jumped. 5. One only piece can occupy each location on the game board at a time. 6. A player may only move once per turn, therefore players cannot “double jump” their own pieces or their opponent’s pieces. 7. A victory is had when one player leave the other without movement; when one player leaves the other without the ability to move horizontally, or vertically, or diagonally. If both players are left incapacitated then the player who inflicted the final blow is the victor. MENTIS STRIKE PLAY 1. Follow the same rules as MENTIS with the following additional rules: 2. If one of the opponent’s game pieces lies in a location identified on the SCREEN OVERLAY, then the player may forfeit their turn and exclaim “STRIKE” followed by the strike coordinates, i.e. M10. 3. Insert GAME CARD #5 into the Master Control Unit. 4. In STRIKE mode the defending player uses CONTROLLER 2 to place the SPOT in the identified space on the screen. 5. The attacking player presses RESET to release the ball. 6. The defending player must serve the ball to the attacking player. (English is allowed to be used to prevent the attacker from hitting the ball.) 7. The attacking player must use CONTROLLER 1 and wait in the bottom-left corner of the screen until the ball is served. Once served, the attacker must intercept the ball and then STRKE the defender’s SPOT causing it to disappear. 8. If the attacker misses the serve or the target, the turn is over. EGO MENTIS PLAY 1. Set up the 18 game pieces so that they are a block of six across and the deep. 2. One at a time jump a piece, then remove the jumped piece. 3. The objective of the game is to have only one piece remaining. MENTIS SIEGE PLAY 1. Place the SCREEN OVERLAY on the screen. 2. Insert GAME CARD #5 into the Master Control Unit. 3. Set up the 18 game pieces so that they are a block of six across and the deep. 4. Use CONTROLLER 2 to place the SPOT in a position in the bottom row on the SCREEN OVERLAY. 5. Press the RESET button on CONTROLLER 1 to release the ball. 6. Press the RESET button on CONTROLLER 2 to serve the ball. 7. Use CONTROLLER one to intercept the ball and then STRIKE the spot causing it to disappear, then remove the corresponding game piece. 8. The SPOT cannot be placed into a higher row until a block in the lower row has been destroyed. 9. If a block in the top row or center row is destroyed, but a block below it exists, then the block below it is destroyed as well. 10. The objective of the game is to clear all blocks in as little moves as possible, thereby destroying the enemy’s fortifications. 11. The maximum number of moves allowed is 18. -
Very cool! I like everything about this except the fact that it doesn't cover my games, lol.

 Awesome job on the box art! Was this artwork created from scratch? -B No, he remixed some poster art from some B movie that I've never heard of. -
Back in the day, I know a lot of us didn't have the luxury of buying a lot of games. Mostly, games would be rented. Without the Internet, it was hard to tell what was good and what was crap. There were magazines, and commercials, and that was it unless you knew someone else with the same game. So, if you rented a crappy game, you were stuck with it for the weekend. I'll go first: It's really hard to pick just one, but Bubsy sticks out. This game was massively hyped. I thought the commercials looked killer, and some reviews said to was almost as good a Sonic. When I started it up for the first time I remember seeing that I had nine lives, and how I wouldn't even need that many to finish the game. But you fall two inches, you die; touch an enemy, you die; go where you're supposed to, you die. Frustrating and crap. I gave the Jaguar version a shot because it's a completely different game, but it too was shit. Fuck Accolade... a game? What kind of fucking slogan is that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NCoTki0QVQ Buggy ass Bubsy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUSjapV8vs0&NR=1 Weak...

Games that a three year old can play?
Rev. Rob replied to jetset's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pac-Man is hard for three year olds. Classic era games aren't made for kids that young. They require fast reflexes and precision. Get your kid a Genesis and a NES or SNES or a DS. Lots of classic kid friendly games there. While on the subject, V-Tech's line of kid consoles completely sucks. The games are so bad that they're worthless. Collision and hit detection problems are so rampant that I can't even get through some of them. -

Has anyone found any consoles at a antique store
Rev. Rob replied to PAC MAN FEVER's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yes. Went to one recently just for the hell of it. Went straight to the counter and asked the older lady if she had any old video games, thinking surely she'd saw no. She says' "sure do honey, right there in that box to the left behind that leather sofa. I then tear through the isle like a madman towards the sofa that seemed days to get to. There was actually 3 boxes all lids folded closed sitting in the area she pointed to. I tore them open with no remorse. All that was in them was random household items and some damn Christmas ornaments. So I yelled to the old lady, " Where the fuck are the games, they aint over here!" She says, "Oh sugar lips, check the other side of the sofa over there". I then give her a look of disgust, and completely toss sofa to the side. There it is..the box. It said in bold letters on the front ,"games..sweet, sweet games" I then open the box, and low and behold there was a mint sealed Stadium Events, and to the right of that was not one, but two copies of Air Raid.... Then, I woke the hell up I've never found anything game related at an antique shop Nice dream, Sugar Lips. -
Epic collection...

Mentis Cohorts - Four Odyssey Games in One

Thanks to jahfish, I now have box art. The question is should I start taking pre-orders now, or wait until I can take a good pic of the box with the final art and screen overlays, which might not be for another week? -
I don't get it. This looks like total suck to me. Why would I want to use one of these? Obviously we all have computers which are better for emulation. I have 3TB of storage space in my PC. This thing is limited to SD cards. So... why?!
