  1. I'm sure being right or left handed plays a big part in how comfortable a rotary controller will feel as well. Being right-handed myself, I preferred having the rotary on the right and the buttons on the left, but a left-handed person would probably prefer the rotary on the left and the buttons on the right. Jeff
  2. I think part of it was lack of inovation. Most everything started to become mortal kombat crap.
  3. I think most people that are interested in buying new 7800 games would really prefer an actual 7800 cart. It's just my opinion, but what's the point of making a new 7800 game if you're not going to use all of it's added benefits? Jeff
  4. It would be awesome if someone could figure out how to use the pokey chip and add it to the cart. Jeff

Is there any chance Atari was going to add a pokey chip and just never finished it? Just curious. Jeff
  6. I found it a lot quicker than I thought I would. Oregon Research made a program called Diamond Edge that optimized hard drives. I don't know how many updates it had but I'm sure the later the version # the better. Hope that helps. Jeff
  7. I think there was a program by Oregon Research that defragged hard drives, but it might have just been a backup/restore program. My ST has been boxed up for a few years now, but if I run across any info I'll let you know. Jeff
  8. Gus, What do you think of the track designs posted so far? Any comments or suggestions? Is there a game variation that needs more tracks? Any input you or Al could give would be great. Jeff
  9. I think Al is overworked or he was up too late. The filenames for my submissions start with effThompson. Jeff
  10. East Carolina? Western Carolina? S.C. State? Coastal Carolina? North Carolina A&T? Is that all of them? Jeff
  11. or maybe N.C. State? How many guesses do we get?
  12. How about North Carolina. Jeff
  13. Tempest just isn't Tempest without a rotary controller, the same way Breakout isn't Breakout without a paddle controller (which explains why Breakout 2000 still irritates me! ) It's all about the controller. What's a driving game without a steering wheel? Marble Madness without a trackball? Star Wars without a flight controller? etc. etc. When I made my rotary controllers, some people loved them and some people thought they were too sensitive. If you like the sensitivity though, the control is infinitely better than using the pad. It's definitely better if you have a chance to try something before you buy it. Especially if you are spending $75+ on it. In my experience, if you don't find a controller easy to use within half an hour or so of playtime you probably never will. Btw, I hope everyone is still enjoying their rotary controllers. Hopefully those optical encoders are still going strong. Jeff
  14. That would be awesome Gus. I hope Al has time to post some entries on the submissions page this weekend. They might inspire some more track designs. Jeff
  15. The problem with a lot of old games is that people work on them that have no clue what they are doing. Hopefully the board you have isn't hacked or it might not be repairable. Posting a message on the rec.games.video.arcade newsgroup might be your best bet in finding someone close by to help fix your game. Jeff
  16. I remember playing this game on the ST. I thought it was a great game! It was the type of game that I wished wouldn't end. Jeff
  17. Indy 500 XE and Combat Redux make we wish there were 7800 versions being made. Better graphics, more tracks/mazes, maybe even a pokey chip for better sound effects and music, even AI for single player games. I can dream. Jeff
  18. Thanks for having the contest Zach and Al! It was a lot of fun making mazes and cloud formations. Jeff
  19. Gus, I made several tracks where the player's car doesn't pass over the second sensor line but the lap counter seems to work fine. Do you think that will cause any problems? Once some of the entries are posted on the submissions page it would be very helpful to get some feedback from you and Al. Jeff Btw: I just sent Al the 18 tracks I made.
  20. I was just curious if any of the mazes caused any problems. Also, I was a little disappointed that none of my complex mazes were chosen, but at least a few others were. Jeff (Btw, I already have 9 tracks ready for Indy 500. )
  21. Gus, The only problem I am having with the editor is that when I use the option menu to change the game type and then save it, a tag game plays as a crash and score game and a crash n' score game plays as a tag game. Also, when a file is loaded, the options are not updated. For example if I save a 2 player race and then load a 1 player ice race, the options will still be on race and 2 player. Otherwise it's a pretty cool editor. Jeff
