  1. Rock Band is gonna totally DESTROY all other music based games ever created, period.

If it included videos and they made it so if you weren't perfect on the notes your guitar would sound a little 'off' instead of the stupid sound it makes now, then I would agree. But I still think it will be a good game.

These are the games I'm really looking forward to:

    Lair

    LittleBigPlanet

    Heavenly Sword

    Medal of Honor : Airbourne

    Uncharted : Drake's Fortune

Final Fantasy : The Lion War

    Assasin's Creed

  2. So far, the best video I have seen is for Little Big Planet. The latest one shows the creation tool used to build your own levels, and it looks incredible. I was only mildy interested in this title before, but now that I've watched the creation video it is on my must have list. Creating levels may be just as much fun as playing them.

My runner-up videos are for: Uncharted Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword and Lair.

    Which videos most impressed you?

  3. Super Stardust HD is the latest downloadable game available in the Playstation Store. It's about 300 megs and costs $8. You'll really pay $10, though. This is because you can only drop increments of $5 into your Playstation Store wallet.

This is a silly comment. If you click all the way through to make your purchase it lets you pick the exact price of the game to place in your wallet. I have always paid the exact amount on every playstation store download.

  4. Yeah, so can the Guitar Hero games be played on a PS3? If they can, I may just go ahead and get one for the hell of it.

The only thing that doesn't work from the last time I tried it a few weeks ago is the whammy bar. Hopefully they will fix that soon, if they haven't already.

  5. It's extremely likely that GTA 4 will be almost exactly the same on the 2 systems, but we won't know for sure until they are released. I think you should base your decision on what other games look interesting to you, including any Xbox/PS2 games that you would like to play (if you don't have them already.)

  6. I think the PS3 would be a good choice for you if you want to watch blu-ray movies and play games. There aren't a lot of games to choose from right now but that will change by the fall. The online store is adding new content almost every week which helps. The PS3's backward compatability is a great feature. I'm sure you'll be able to find some great games at bargain prices. You should give Gran Tourismo a try since you like racing games. There's no way to tell when the price will drop but several stores are giving away extra controllers with a purchse during this holiday weekend. If you think of any specific questions, let us know. I'm sure someone here will try to help out.

  7. I received an e-mail today announcing the impending arrival of the Warhawk online beta test. 'You must have access to a PLAYSTATION®3 system that is connected to the internet via a broadband connection, an active PLAYSTATION®Network Account, and be 18 years or older' in order to be considered. You can sign up for a chance to be a beta tester at Warhawk.com. Good luck.

  8. This isn't meant to be off topic and since I don't have a PS3...(And Likely won't for some time given the cost). But Nintendo could fix their points system very easily by just not using a point system at all and making the games cost what they do in actual dollars.

Think about it, we already pay $5 to get 500 points. That 500 points is then used to download an NES game. If they would change it from 500 points to just $5 then allow you the option to just pay for the game and use your credit card that way, the problem would be resolved.

But for some reason, Nintendo chose to go with the points system. I still think they should add the option to allow us to just purchase as many points as we want instead of increments of $10..but we can't.

It's really not any better with PS3 though. You put $5, $10 or $25 in your wallet, and then a game costs $4.99 + tax, so you're always going to have an odd amount leftover, and they always get to keep whatever is in that "wallet" with interest.

Actually, that's not true at all. You can select the exact amount to place in your wallet when you are checking out at the PSN store, so your balance can always be zero.

  9. I don't know if it supports an online mode yet, still downloading. $4.99 just like Gauntlet II and Q*Bert.

I'm pretty sure I read that it does support online play. I would think it would have 3 players like the original arcade game, on or off line. Let us know what you think after you try it out.

  10. I bought it this past weekend and played it with some friends for quite a long time. I thought it was a very good port of the game. The only thing I don't like is the beep sound it makes moving around the menu screens. Why the hell is it so freaking loud?!

I think we got up to level 115 before we called it quits. It was 2:30 AM and I wasn't sure how many levels it has. Anyone know for sure how many there are?

  11. I played the demo as well, and thought the controls were pretty good. It's a decent maze type game IMHO.

One thing I really liked that you didn't mention is that you can view replays of the top 5 scores, so you can see exactly how they did it.

  12. I will most likely be getting Gauntlet II this weekend. I just hope it's as good as the original. Along with Rampart, Sprint and Calling All Cars, it should be a great multiplayer game.

As a side note, I bought Blast Factor last weekend and it was a lot of fun to play with 4 people at 2xAT speed. :)

  13. So my birthday's coming up, and as has become customary for my wife and I, I basically get to pick out my own gift and buy it myself. It all comes out of the same pool of money anyway.

This year I'm agonizing over either buying a PlayStation 3 or a Fender Jazzmaster guitar. Each has their pros and cons.

PS3 pros: Would be my only current-gen game system; can play BD movies (making it easier to justify to the wife, ie. "it's for us!")

PS3 cons: Will be worth approximately $24 in 5-10 years; way too expensive for a game machine right now; I'll still be without a guitar

Jazzmaster pros: I've wanted this guitar for like 13 years; will hold its value; will help fend off my coming mid-life crisis

Jazzmaster cons: Will result in a cascade of extra stuff to go along with it, making it much more expensive than the PS3; a totally selfish purchase, meaning I'll need to give in the next time my wife wants to buy a $400 purse and/or pair of shoes; I'll still be without a modern game system

    What would you guys do??

btw, if anybody here really knows guitars (and I'm sure some of you do) and are wondering why I'm comparing a $500-$600 game machine to a $1400 guitar, I'm not - it's the Japanese Jazzmaster I'd buy. Basically the same as the current US models, but about half the price, so more in line with what the PS3 costs.

I'm seriously about 50/50 on this. Somebody convince me one way or another!

There's a lot of resentment towards sony on the boards, so take that into consideration when ready some replies.

In order to give a good recomendation, I believe we need more information. Do you have any current gaming systems? What are your favorite types of games? How often do you play guitar? How many do you have? Anything else you might think of to give us a good idea of what you enjoy would help also.

  14. From what I have heard all 3 versions are pretty buggy, but then again it is an elder scrolls game, and it's a lot less buggy than previous games in the series. Any game will have odd things happen under certain circumstances, but when you put this much content in an open ended game like oblivion, it's almost impossible to find let alone fix all the strange things that can happen. That's the problem with a game that tries to do so much.

  15. It seems that with the much higher resolution of the new EyeToy and the processing power of the PS3, developers should be able to make games that can track your movements much better than any currently available motion controller. They could have golf, tennis, bowling and other fun games, without any controllers thrown through tv's.

  16. 5. This thing runs HOT! I had to put the PS3 on its own shelf in my cabinet to keep it from melting the console next to it with its red hot exhaust. Looks like I'll be able to keep my family room warm this winter just by playing PS3 games.

You mean it melted even the 7001 series PS1? I thought those things were built like tanks...

Someone mentioned Star Wars, and this brings to mind a question: how likely is the Sixaxis's tilt response to be used to simulate a lightsaber or even hand to hand combat? Would it be possible to grip the Sixaxis tightly and literally throw punches or swing a saber with the thing?

(Oh, no, it's gonna be Masters of Teras Kasi again...)

IMHO, the EyeToy would probably work better/ be more accurate than the motion sensing in any controller at this point. On one hand I don't see anything stopping them from making a special controller with certain games (like a guitar in Guitar Hero) if the motion sensor is accurate enough. On the other hand I think they should just have golf, tennis, bowling and a bunch of other games using the EyeToy. I would happily try those for $60 over paying $250.

  17. Sony was nice enough to give everyone that attended the devcon, the new PS3 camera (will probably hit the market soon). It has a wide angle lense and 4 built-in microphones, I believe it is 4 times the resolution of the original eye-toy and captures at double the speed (60 fps).

Just though I'd share, for the 3 people who care, here are some pics...

I think the EyeToy is a cool idea, but the biggest limitation is having enough lighting to make it work. Maybe they should inculde a light on top of it or something.
