It's a year as well. http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3/Warranties What, nothing about Microsoft copying Sony?
-
I still haven't found a PS3 in my area but I know it won't be too much longer. It's funny how people don't even try to hide their personal bias anymore. Everything is just stated as facts when the only fact is their statements come 100% out of their a**.
-
You're right, they should be more like microsoft and completely abandon the 100 million PS2's out there. Or maybe they should be more like nintendo and put a PS3 version out first and add some motion control parts to it to make it 'better.' Tell me, is it really worth paying $250 to play zelda with a basically 'split in half' controller on wii over playing it on the $99 gamecube? Obviously it is to the big ninty fans, but for most folks they couldn't care less.

Next to their welfare check it isn't.

I prefer AvP. It was well done in most every respect and a lot of fun/challenging gameplay. Doom is just a long blast-a-thon with absolutely no point imho. It's not as bad as 'Aircars in a maze', but then again Aircars doesn't have multiplayer communication errors every 2 minutes.

I think it's great that all those jerks are getting stuck with PS3's. I know a guy that works at a game store near Cleveland. He used other people's names to get 3 launch consoles so he could resell them for a huge mark-up. As of last week he still had all 3. I still think Sony should have conducted their own auction on-line for the first 20k units with the profits going to some charities. People could have paid whatever they want and the extra cash would have gone to some needy people instead of the lazy jobless bums that stood outside for 3 days. Just a thought.

That's what they're doing. They really are taking extraordinary measures to try and get units into stores. Scenario 1: Sony follows regular supply chain process and NA gets hardly any consoles for the holidays. Result: People bitch and scream at Sony for causing a shortage. Scenario 2: Sony undertakes crazy effort to get some consoles to each store, and they're eventually seen on shelves. Result: People see them for sale and declare the PS3 a miserable failure because 'nobody is buying them' They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't. You have to remember, anything that Sony does is wrong. I still haven't been able to find any PS3's in stock where I live, but I'm sure that won't last too much longer. I find that to be a good thing myself. As for the Wii, I can always go over to my cousin's house and play it again if I want. I thought the sports game was ok but it was more like a basic demo than anything. If they would have put some more time into them and made the controller more sensitive/accurate to your movements then it might have been a must have for me.

I agree, bundles suck. I'm glad people are waiting to get the PS3 by itself. That's the only way to get those bundle rip-offs out of the way.

No, we were talking about having fun with Linux on the PS3.

If you could add 3 more to your gameroom what would they be?
jedijeff replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Arcade and Pinball
It's not so much the space as it is the price. My top 3 would have to be a dedicated Major Havoc, Return of the Jedi and a cockpit Star Wars. -
Just in case you haven't heard about this offer, Best Buy will give you a free $20 gift card when you buy any 2 PS3 games on the same receipt in their store. The only game I'm really interested in that's out now is R:FOM. (I haven't bought a PS3 yet, but I plan on getting one in the near future.) I decided to check BestBuy.com since the ad said the online offer may vary. Apparently the online offer includes pre-orders and they offer free ground shipping on all PS3 games as well. I was one of the people who received a $10 off coupon when bestbuy.com cancelled their PS3 pre-orders. I ended up ordering Resistance and Oblivion, used the $10 off code, get free shipping, and get a $20 gift card to use on a future purchase. Not a bad deal imho.

Wish I could help out MegaManFan, but the best I can do is suggest calling customer service. They might have some info.

I actually have one sitting out in my garage. It's on the to do list.

It runs pretty well considering the low amount of system RAM available. Better in fact than I would have thought. Everything is pretty snappy, and web browsing via Firefox is great. Also, here's some ST love on the PS3 - I just built Hatari on it and it works great! Except for the fact that my firebutton is select on the SIXAXIS pad. I gotta say it again - this is really cool. I was going to wait until next year to get a PS3, but I might have to start looking for one now.

Using component cables to connect your PS2 will improve the picture some. When you start it up without a game you can change the video output. A few PS2 games can be set to progressive scan and that can improve the picture quality also. IMHO Sony's platforms have always had the most diverse set of games. They also do pretty well with supporting their older titles through backwards compatability, so if your uncle did go with the PS3 there would still be a good variety of games to try out. There are quite a few PS2 games made just for the little ones, like your cousin, as well. If your uncle watches many movies the PS3 would be the way to go since the blu-ray player is included. Xbox 360 has the hd-dvd add-on, but none of the games can use that extra storage space and who needs yet another box to find space for. Personally I would say go with the 20GB PS3. You get a lot of technology for $499. The only hard part is having enough patience to find one in a store and not pay an e-bay scalper for one. If you have any more specific questions let us know, I'm sure someone on the boards will try to help out.

That does sound pretty cool. I'll have to remember to give that game a try when I get a PS3.
-
So how well does fedora run on the ps3? How much do you think it will improve with yellow dog?
-
Like many things on the PS3 it sounds interesting. Let us know what kind of stuff you get to run on it. I might have to try it out when I get a PS3.

What's up with GameSpot's reviews of the old emulated games?
jedijeff replied to Room 34's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Some games age better than others. If you don't want to see how an old game fares against newer ones then don't read the review. Besides, it's just someone's OPINION. If you spent less time finding things to complain about you'd have more time to play games and maybe review them yourself. -
I would try calling customer service to see how much it would cost. I haven't seen anything about someone opening up a psp. Too many tiny parts might go flying around.

I finally tried a PS3 demo kiosk last night and I liked the controller a lot. I also don't understand the complaints about the L2/R2 buttons. I thought they were a nice idea. They aren't difficult to hold in, there's a large area of movement for precise control and it felt pretty natural. I'll have to wait and see how the tilt functionality works since the controllers are connected to the case by a big bar. I just wish they had a Lair demo to try with a free-moving controller. That game looked pretty sweet.

I read on IGN that firmware update 1.11 was available now. It doesn't add much but it might help a little. There should be a place in the menu where it lists the version you are using just like the psp.
-
I'm sure adding i-pod compatibility would be a fairly simple update, though knowing how sony is sometimes they might not do it. If they ever add an upscaler for dvd's and old ps1/2 games then it would be cool to have it upscale umd's and let you view them too. It all depends on what they want to do. Just like they've shown with the psp, a lot is possible, and that goes double for the ps3.
-
That's cool. The longer the system is out the more people will find out on their own what works and what doesn't and spread the truth about it online. I'm sure the fanboys will still be spreading their bs but at least more people will have real knowledge to combat it.

I took guitar hero 2 to my cousin's house yesterday and that was the game played the most. Another cousin brought his xbox 360 but they got bored with that pretty quick and went back to GH2.
