A Saturn for Virtua Fighter. The only reason I got a SEGA console at the time. I was strictly NES and SNES. I was very good at the arcades with this game since I was getting whipped at Mortal Kombat 2. If VF was developed by Namco I would've gotten a PSX. No surprise I bought a Dreamcast.

Its a Super Mario Galaxy clone without the upside down stuff.
I'm an hour into it and my thoughts:
After playing the masterpiece Super Mario Galaxy 2, Epic Mickey feels like a second hand but admirable effort.
Like God Of War III and Castlevania Lords of Shadow\Dantes Inferno.
Like Mario Kart Wii and (name any other kart game thats actually good but not better than Mario Kart)
The good news is that its STILL a good game. Its got the Mario Sunshine painting with a little Super Mario Galaxy jumping spinning attacks with the nunchuck\wand.
Its fun and its worth a purchase if the price drops but don't expect anything great if you played the Mario games already. Nintendo makes it so hard to beat what they do.
(Cause they do it the best)
The only camera issue I have is that it doesnt really follow you, so a lot of times you need to hit "C" to reset it in front of you so you can see. I also have a slightly
hard time trying to figure out what to paint or what to "thin" (un-paint).
It's nice and its hard to put down sometimes cause it is good.....but it could have been waaaay better.
Update:
http://www.destructoid.com/spector-refuses-to-admit-that-epic-mickey-isn-t-perfect-189184.phtml
I lost some respect for Warren. I used to follow his blog and love all the work he's ever been involved with but to say that this isn't at least a little bit of a Mario clone is totally wrong. Thats the FIRST thing that came to mind when I played Epic Mickey.

You've hit the nail on the head. I got into the hype of this game also and came away a little deflated. Still, it's a fun game and I do like it, especially having Warren Spector(Deus Ex)behind it. My wife and kids are big on Disney anyway.

I found this game on youtube somehow and it looked pretty cool. kind of a 2d puzzle type game. and went to ebay to get it and found there were none for sale and checked the completed. one for 35 buy it now and another sold for 158!
i guess it is a rare game and now i only want it more. time to start hitting gamestop!!
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 200446209114
I was wondering if you found this game yet because Gamestop usually has this tile in stock. Bought this game about a year and a half ago for 9.99 but I've seen them as high as 19.99

I haven't bought a downloaded game in a while but this may make me do it. Just so I can watch it without having to pop in a DVD etc.
At least I hope it has a watch feature cause I'm not that good at Dragon's Lair but I love it.

I wonder what the trophies will be?
I actually bought that game for my ipod on sale for .99 cents. Identical to the arcade that I played back in '83. Don Bluth did the animation for that. Space Ace, where are you?

Anyone try this?
I like the ancient AITD games on the PC, this being vastly different of course and I heard that the PS3 version was "improved" but according to Metacritic.......maybe not enough.
Some people say its worth a look though, anyone here have it\try it?
I have that one for the Wii. Some of the camera angles were bad and the motion control was a bit rough. Want to get that for the ps3(Inferno) bcuz I'd rather use the controller. I used to have AITD:One-Eyed Jack's Revenge for the Saturn and the camera angles were bad on that. Also had AITD: The New Nightmare for Dreamcast(miss that console) and really liked that one.

Other games are probably just too obscure from a software publisher's point of view.
I bet your right. But I'de venture to guess it's not just the publisher's POV. I mean, really, if we went out polled a 1000 people on the street asking them what classic arcade games would they like to play again, what is everyone going to say... Catching them off guard with a odd question, they are going to ramble off the popular common games they remember. Like Pac-man. I wouldn't expect to see Congo Bongo or Gorf being a game mentioned by many. Might be good games and all, but just not as popular.
Retro is a business like any other. You want to appeal to the largest customer base you can. People remember Pac-man, not so much Zaxxon.
you're right. retro is just like any other business. i just can't believe we couldn't put it out

now i love playing the classic arcade games of the past, but in all of the "classic game" compilations, whether its the atari collection or midways greatest hits or sega,...... it's usually the same games we've all played an infinite number of times. sometimes there are some unusual or not so popular or mildly popular games thrown in, but for the most part, it's all the same. where are the "compilation" of games that include, but not limited to, Popeye, Zaxxon, Super Zaxxon, Tron, Disks of Tron, Congo Bongo, Cloak and Dagger, Gorf, Donkey Kong, Plaides, Astron Belt, Buck Rogers, Mr. Do, Ladybug, etc.,....... even a collection of pinball games like Black Knight, Xenon, etc.... would be nice. now i know that the games i listed were made by different manufacturers so maybe that's an issue right there. miss those games
Good question.
I'm sure licencing (i.e. Nintendo products like Popeye, Donkey Kong) prevent some games from being in a compilation. Other games are probably just too obscure from a software publisher's point of view. I have the feeling that classic gaming compilations are low on the priority list for some of the software producers. It took us forever to get Taito Legends II here........
I know this has been said a million times before, but just check out the incredible MAME emulator for the rare stuff

yea, i figured it would be a problem with the manufacturers and the liscencing. i guess it was just wishful thinking. what is MAME? loveTaito's front line and jungle hunt/jungle king and zookeeper. never heard of new zealand story. is there possibly any way in the 21st century(the future), that somehow, someway, we can get these games out?

We should get together some people and go here one day:
Supposedly the biggest arcade on the East Coast I believe? Look at the pictures it looks great and supposedly they take good care of their machines. I'm from New Jersey, so it's a long drive, but I plan on making it there maybe next year.
a thousand "thank you's" for having the website for "funspot". i never knew there was a place like that around here. now, i dont live that close; i live in northeast ohio, but i will definitely take a drive there one day! no doubt! the list of games they have; unbelievable. looking at those titles and i swear i can remember those games like yesterday. even pictures of some of the games that were donated that i forgot about, i am remembering them, although not all of them. guarantee that there are games i never played or heard of. cant wait!

Reactor was not a huge hit, but was a fave. I also loved the Exidy Crossbow game, Tin Star, Wild Western (I had one for some time, but nobody ever played it!!!), Sprint 2 and Drag Race (although it got popular when Crane ported it to the 2600).
I always dug Smokey Joe too. Not sure how unpopular my fav's were, but I don't think they are in any compilation CD now!
Cassidy
wow! i remember the crossbow game. if it's what i'm thinking of, i believe exidy put out other "crossbow" type games. a couple that come to mind was one that had a haunted house setting and the other took place in the wild west

Was it Astron Belt?.........
that name sounds very familiar. it probably was the name of the arcae game. i think your right

ok, here we go. there wa"s a space fighting laser disk game that used real movie footage from movies such as "star trek II", "message from space" and i believe "battle beyond the stars", but they mostly used explosion scenes frfom these movies. there was a, if you want to call it, a dogfight scene from "message from space" that had your ship shooting at them. also, there was a stage where you had to fly through a canyon trench that was specifically filmed for this game. it looked like it was carved out of jello or chocolate mousse or something. if anybody knows this games name, please reply because it bugging the hell out of me that i cant remember the name

Bubbles
Sega's CrackDown (Genesis vers. exists)
Vindicators
Popeye (was it unpopular?)
Xybots
Wack-O
& call me ignorant, there was a Pitfall II arcade game?

EDIT: found it on Cinemarcade. Wow, I never knew...cool link.
one of my favorite arcade games because i could break a million every time once i got a lot of practice with it. knew every pattern, every board stage. had no problem getting into the all-time high score ranks. of course you could only enter your three initials five times so you had to mix it up between your first name, last name, your middle initial....great game from williams. first saw popeye at fort wilderness which is a park at disney world. first saw it back in 1983. i have never seen it anywhere else. xybots is a game that myself and a friend used to play as co-op. love it

Cloak & Dagger and Beastie Feastie are two of my forgotten favorites.
[/quothere was an arcade joint in madison, ohio that had that game. i beleive it was in 1984 and in the movie "cloak and dagger", that arcade game was actually in the movie starring henry thomas and dabney coleman. " this is captain jack flack"!
-
Favorite arcade game I liked was "Space Zap". Four buttons, four cannons, aliens come at you from four directons. Fun to slap those buttons as the aliens appeared.
And how about "Red Baron"?

i remember space zap. i was on my way to disney world back in 1982 and had seen it at a restaurant in florida. that was the one and only time i had ever seen that game. wow. brings back memories

congo bongo waas another game that had that 3/4 view much like zaxxon. both were developed by sega i believe. that was a game that i probably only saw in one arcade room

Virtua Fighter for the Saturn. Was playing that game heavily in the arcades. Of course wanted the sequel which is a gimme.
