  1. The title says it all really, just want to avoid buying games that won't work. I'm sure I have read somewhere that Demon Attack won't work on the XE but can't remember where, is this true? Also any others that won't play. Thanks all! Chris
  2. Hi All, well my XE console and games arrived yesterday safe and sound and am I impressed, this is my first experience of the machine (I'm a long term 2600 owner but never had an Atari computer). Star Raiders is a truly awesome game, I have long been a fan of Starmaster & star raiders for the 2600 and recently got Phaser Patrol for the supercharger but XE 'raiders is in a different league. I only wish I knew about this system back in the day! Any how just wanted to share my joy! Oh yeah and as an additional bonus the seller of the XE included a couple of unlabeled carts he found free, they turned out to be Ms Pacman and Miner 2049'er. If I hadn't come down with a bloody summer cold this would have been one of the best days ever
  3. Wow that looks great! Just got an XE system for the first time, and really impressed so far. You have a sale from me when your finished. Best regards, Chris
  4. Thanks All! Nice to have a bit of what happened after Best regards! Chris
  5. Were the Konami(strategy X, Pooyan & Marine Wars) games coded in Japan? Just wondered if these were developed "in-house" Konami Japan, or by outside company elsewhere. Best regards, Chris
  6. Hi, I just watched the three parts of the film about the making of atlantis here" http://www.livevideo.com/video/7B3359CD667...t-1-imagic.aspx Anyone know anything about the hot air balloon game talked about at the end of the show? Also what happened to the company in the end, how much longer did they last? Finally in what order were the games released? Thanks! Chris
  7. Thanks for the update and info. I have PM'd Albert for a Labarynth game CD. Best regards, Chris
  8. Ok here's mine! 1. Sequest 2 Frogger 3 Atlantis 4 Phaser Patrol 5 Centipede 6 communist mutants from space 7 Robot Tank 8 Marine Wars 9 Suicide Mission 10 Starmaster Honourable mention goes to Venture, Defender, E.T., Reactor. I always used to love Star Raiders but that has deminished since my recent fines of Phaser Patrol and Starmaster.
  9. Title says it all really. Just curious as it seems the obvious choice from a cheap distribution point of view(tapes are much cheaper than carts). Also the extra power must be useful I would imagine. The games quality of the orignal Arcadia/starpath games was very high but I imagine some of todays home brewer folks could do some even more impressive feats. Best regards, Chris
  10. Whatever it is you are trying to achieve here you are most certainly going the wrong way about it in my view. This certainly is doing you no favours on the sales of your book cart, I personally was considering a purchase, this thread has actually put me off! Why you seem unable to supply a screen shot and/or a picture of the physical cart itself i cannot understand. This is clearly not a time issue, as you found it to post labels that are completley irellevant. Show us a screenshot/yootube movie, show us a pic of the real item. Tell us how cheap the cart will be and stop pissing about. you are really bugging the best market you have for your products, you didn't work for Atari circa 1984 by any chance?
  11. Commie mutants in great, love the jellyfish aliens have the case for dragon stomper, but no tape, so I guess thats another I need to hunt for.
  12. I just got my Arcadia Supercharger with phaser patrol, commie mutants & suicide mission through the post. WOW!!!! This thing is great, it loads very easy with an old Aiwa walkman and those games are really impressive. All three are fantastic, I'm going to be playing them a lot I reckon. Anyhow, found this interesting page a day or too ago, have a look. http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/interview/caswell.htm Just gotta get Frogger for the supercharger now, any one got one, thay want to sell or could run a tape to tape copy off for me? Anyhow, back to phaser patrol! Chris
  13. Eating the mushrooms from Centipede= this thread.
  14. Hi Chris, Welcome to the A8 community. The ideas suggested by others are very good and, in most cases, the best way to go. However, if you just want to keep things simple to start off, getting some carts is probably the best idea. Here are some of my favorites on cart: archon ballblazer blue max boulder dash commando crystal castles deflektor dig dug (either version) donkey kong jr flip and flop frogger gyruss joust jumpman jr karateka mario bros ms pac-man pac-man q-bert rescue on fractalus star raiders summer games tennis Maybe get a few that sound interesting, and then decide if you want to invest more time/money into other options. This site will give you good info on the games: Atarimania If you have experience with emulation, you can also download files to play on an emulator at Atarimania. There are many good carts for the A8 besides the ones that I've mentioned, but many of the jewels for the system are also to be found on the other available mediums (disks/files). Hope this helps. The A8 is a really great platform. Thanks! Have got star raiders, frogger(one of my alltime favourite), mountain king, moon patro & Qbert on there way. Also a friend gave me a cop of kaboom! I'll start this way to begin & as you say see how I get on! Best regards, Chrisl
  15. Damn! Does international mail go through those type scanners, it's just I have bought a supercharger and games from an atari age member in America and it's on route to the uk as we speak.
  16. Pacman, centipede, frogger, star raiders & demon attack back in the early eighties. Now Seaquest, reactor, frogger, atlantis, starmaster, ms pacman, defender, oh also venture & solar fox. So many games, so little time
  17. My other hobby/passion is classic British motorcycles of which I have 7. The most modern of these is 1968 so the Atari feels quite modern in comparison although I was created only five years before the VCS! As a friend of mine says, anything with a mains plug on the end isn't that old, after all we haven't had electricity THAT long
  18. Here is my PAL Heavy sixer, bought from a friend a while back who was the original owner. I used to play on this very machine at his house when I was a kid! It still works perfectly too, wish I had looked after my stuff as well as he did! I had no idea this was a rare model until I found this forum, out of curiosity, what would you say it's value is? Best regards, Chris
  19. Thanks folks! I'll give the mod a try. Chris
  20. Um don't really get this, what does it do? I'm not really a computer expert(understatment). Yes the XE has a keyboard included, does this make a big difference? Best regards, Chris
  21. I have bought a XE console in working order, with leads etc on a whim for £3.49 off ebay. I have never owned one before and need some reccomendations for games. I have a pretty good 2600 collection and also a 7800, how does the XE compare? Anyhow suggest some game carts I can't be without! Best regards, Chris
