Thanks, you've been incredibly helpful

The Burgertime came with the machine I bought ages ago on ebay-UK.
The D&D and all the other stuff I got from the gentleman who runs this site:
http://www.geekvintage.com/mattel-aquarius.php
Has some nice info and images, he was a great person to deal with too.
He seems to still have a copy of D&D for trade.
Best regards,
Chris

Hiya All,
Can anyone help me out with a few things on the Mattel Aquarius?
I could really use the cassette port pin-outs so I can make up a lead to a standard tape deck(regular jack plugs) so I can save off my BASIC masterpieces

Also does anyone have manuals scans for the Dungeons and Dragons & Night Stalker & Snafu games?
I finally got hold of the mini-expander & pads a 4K & 16K ram packs and a bunch of games so I'm finally getting some use out of the beast.
Quite impressed by Burgertime when you use the mini-expander, the music certainly improves, the pads are OK in the not OK Intellivision way but do benefit from at least being smaller and not having those awful side triggers, anyhow anything is better than trying to play on that keyboard! I do however like the overlays.
Snafu also has some funky sound effects when used with the expander.
In my opinion it's not a bad little machine, however the mini-expander & 16K ram pack should have been built in at the start rather than as expensive extras, the machine is pretty much useless without them.
D&D looks to have potential, but I really need the manual to figure out what is what.
Haven't played Tron or Nightstalker much yet but I'm assuming they are much the same as the 2600 versions, guess I'll see.
Anyone have spares of Utopia and Astrosmash?
Best,
Chris

I remember enjoying Speed Devils when I had a DC back then.

When you think about it, we're all currently living in somebody's future. I grew up watching movies and TV shows with names like, "Class of 1984," "Space: 1999" and "2001: A Space Odyssey." They had names like that because those dates were considered to be so far in the future. Similarly, a lot of sci-fi took place "in the 21st century," which was regarded as being so far in the future that if you were writing sci-fi, you could pretty much postulate any kind of crazy technology, 'cause it's not like anybody reading your story was gonna still be around to find out you were wrong.
And yet...
Here we are! Living in the 21st century! That just blows my mind. We're way behind schedule when it comes to conquering space and colonizing other planets and all, but the capabilities of our cars are pretty amazing, even if they're a lot uglier than their low-tech predecessors. And if you're into RC helicopters and planes like I am, the stuff that's available now would have been unheard of and impossible back in the day.
I do, however, think cell phone technology is the biggest load of crap imaginable. Land lines and CB radios had better sound quality and better connections than these damned mobile phones.
And don't even get me started on the subject of the entertainment industry. Totally un-interesting, computer-generated special effects are supposed to be an improvement over miniature models and stop-motion animation? Really?
And unscripted "reality TV" that's totally not real, and just exists to drag people down and let emotionally immature idiots make spectacles of themselves? That's something I should want to watch? Really?
But, I digress.
I'm 38 and this is exactly how I feel! You could have copied and pasted this from my brain!

-
Would really like a Mini-expander and the pads for my Mattel Aquarius, also any spare cart games you folks may have up for grabs, I only have Burgertime.
I have a load of nice Gameboy stuff for trade here:
http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...=147527&hl=
also have a nice clean spare 128K+2 Spectrum with PSU for trade, this is the model with the real keyboard and built-in tape deck so is ready to play.
If your after anything specific I may have it so perhaps we can work something out.
Best regards,
Chris

Where are the swordquest games? Totally unplayable rubbish IMHO.
Also defence for Star Ship, it's not better than E.T, but it's masterful in comparison to swordquest.
-
I have one of these, Al was selling them about 3 years ago for $5 if I remember right. Just use a portable CD player instead of a tape deck and hit play

-
Star Raiders is the whole reason I own an 8-bit, end of story, superb game

-
I like it despite only having the NTSC copy over here in PAL land so the colours are wrong(made deciphering the manual more difficult:)).
It's different enough from the other Star Raiders clones to be worth a play. IMHO better than Atari's Star Raiders & Imagic's Star Voyager but inferior to Phaser Patrol & Starmaster. But I like Star Ship so what would I know??

Also found some other bits:
Gameboy pocket silver with backlight modification.
Gameboy Color Strawberry with no battery cover.
Gameboy advance clear with no battery cover.
All pretty decent cosmetically and fully working.
Will add pics if anyone wants.
also after Atari 8-bit carts.
Cash offers also considered for this stuff if noone has anything to trade.
Best,
Chris
-
As the carts are different shapes you will need to file some bits off round the cart slot or get a cheapo convertor cart(they are only slt extenders really). IFAIK newer games like Virtua racing can cause problems, but I have loads of old Jap Nancot games and some US EA & accolade titles they all work fine.

Have some Gameboy stuff I no longer want, all fully working:
Gameboy Advance:
James Pond Codename Robocod.
Scooby Doo Mystery Mayhem.
Scooby Doo Cyber chase + Mystery Mayhem
Rayman Advance.
Gameboy Color:
Dragon Warrior 3
Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers
Woody Escape from Buzz Buzzards Park
R-Type DX
Godzilla Monster Wars.
Gameboy Original:
Star Wars.
Killer Instinct.
Super hunchback.
Krusty's Fun House.
Flintstones King Rock Treasure Island.
Wanted:
Philips g7000/Odyssey 2 Atlantis, Demon Attack & Parker Bros games
TRS-80 Co Co carts and tapes.
Mattel Aquarius carts.
Dragon 32 carts & tapes.
Famicom carts.

Here you go, Weetabix vs the titchies, free with cereal back in the 80's. Was a version for all the popular British micro's of the day.

I had the same issue with a Sears Telegames sixer & Atari 5200, the only way I got either to eork was with a mates Windows PC TV-tuner card that supported both PAL & NTSC UHF/VHF, that was years ago however, it was and old ISA bus card. I could never use the consoles at home as we have Macintosh so I sold 'em on. Shame.
you could probably get an old PC & Tuner card these days paractically for free, maybe an option?
Chris
I recently bought a couple of unusual consoles from the UK EBay.A French-Canadian Coleco Gemini and a (most likely USA) Magnavox Odyssey.
I was told the Gemini would support both PAL and NTSC games, which is the main reason I bought it.
After plugging it into a UK PAL UHF 14" CRT TV, I was unable to find it on any frequency. The same with the Odyssey.
I also own a Gadmei LCD TV Box which has TV ariel input and is suppose to support NTSC and PAL.
I can tune the Odyssey and Gemini in through this, but the quality on both is ultra-poor unusuable. The Gemini has a TV changer switch on the back marked 2 and 3. I am guessing these are channels 2 and 3 in the VHF low-band (band I):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America...ion_frequencies
To confirm this, the Gemini auto tunes to:
2- VL55.12
3- VL61.12
And I get a very very very weak signal on frequency VL 183.43.
The Gadmei has three modes:
PAL (which shows Yellow and Blue Lines down the TV screen)
N3.58 and N4.43 (which both look the same - B&W with mass interference)
There is no colour in the 2600 games and they are only showing B&W, although I only have PAL carts, and am wondering if the Gemini is not PAL compatible, and if I would get colour if I plugged a NTSC cart into it?
Does anyone know if any UK CRT TVs support NTSC VHF frequencies, and if perhaps there might be another way around this problem?
As far as I can VHF only supported B&W in the UK and VHF TV was discontinued in 1985:

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.

Wern't the two "mega games" supposed to have been on the speccy with an expensive hardware add-on. I'm sure I read that development had hardly started on either when Imagine went so publicly tits up on BBC TV.
I'm sure there was some link with these and the released Shadow of the unicorn on the speccy that also used a hardware add-on.
your probably best asking about this here:http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3
Keep me updated if you do find anything.
All the best,
Chris
