Welp my first RPG of the year that I've completed and I can honestly say it's been a blast. I've played Dungeon Siege multiple times over the years
but never completed it and I can finally mark if off my list. It took a little over 23 hours for me to complete.

Here's an introduction from Moby Games:
Dungeon Siege is a direct descendant of the grandfather of all of today's Hack'n'Slay "roleplaying" games, Diablo. In Dungeon Siege, you control
one or more heroes in a gigantic 3D modeled fantasy world, slaying hundreds of monsters, casting spells and gathering experience points and
    valuable items.

The story is as simple as it is in the game's predecessors: you are a humble, yet unnamed farmer, whose lands are devastated by the evil Krug. Of
course, you can't let this just happen to you, so you set for revenge...

Where Diablo (and Diablo II) had hand-drawn or pre-rendered graphics, Dungeon Siege takes the 3D approach. The entire world is rendered in real
time, and there is no loading between levels - since there are no levels. It's more like the Ultima 7/8 games, where you have one gigantic world plane
    to roam.

As already expected, there are literally hundreds of monsters already awaiting our farmer, and of course there are many different weapons and items
for him (or his party members) to acquire. This as well is a different approach - you can have a real party, all controlled by yourself (or your multiplayer
    friends, for that matter).

And here are a few screenshots from the last battle:

Here's a game I played a ton in high school when there was free time in the computer lab. Again i never beat it. Transylvania was released in
1982 for the Apple II computer system and many more through out the years. I decided to play the 1986 double hi-res version for the Apple II.

Here's an Intro via Moby Games:
Transylvania is an adventure with optional graphics, and a VERB NOUN interface. Two weeks ago, Princess Sabrina suddenly vanished and
remained unseen since. King John the Good asks any travellers to help in locating her - you volunteer.

As you begin your quest in the dark forests of Transylvania, beware of the evil that lurks. You will encounter strange creatures like a vampire and
a goblin, and experience strange things. Most importantly, a werewolf is constantly chasing you, until you find the pistol and bullets necessary to kill it.
    Remember fellow traveller, take care...

I gotta say I really like this challenging game. Getting chased around by the werewolf can be very stressful until you get the items to take care of him.

And finally a few shots of the ending.

I played a couple sessions tonight:

First up was evilgonzo. Unfortunately i only made it to level 4 and was quickly surrounded
by a dividing slime and killed.

Last up was ghost1313. I made it all the way to level 10. On level 3 i had a small mishap
where i read a random scroll which put me to sleep. A kestral came along and started beating
on me. Fortunately I woke up and was able to kill it. From levels 3-8 i fought many rattlesnakes
but kept getting poisoned which took my strength down to 3. I fell into a trap on level 9 which
instantly teleported me to level 10. Dazed and confused i wandered around a minute but finally
snapped out of it. Unfortunately i wandered into a creature called a Quagga, not sure what it is,
but it ended up killing me.

And here is the high scores: It looks like it will only hold 10 scores at a time so when i get
through all the names, people who are knocked off will get another shot to show up.

I burned through quite a few characters this time. First up was save2600:
Things were going fairly well until i hit level 4. I entered a room with a slime and started attacking it.
But i kept missing and it kept splitting. Needless to say i was overwhelmed with slimes and succumbed
    to them.

    Next up was ianoid:
I made it all the way to level 8 but through out my adventure ran into quite a few rattlesnakes. Just so
you know rattlesnakes poison you which lowers your strength by one. I had fought so many my
strength had lowered to 2 out of 16. I barely could kill anything and i had no magical items to remove
the effect so a lowly slime put an end to my adventure.

    Next up was AtariBrian:
Things were going well for me until level 8. I stumbled into a teleportation trap which teleported me
to another portion of the map and confused me for a bit. There also was a mad centaur in the room
that decided it didn't like me so he finished me off in quick fashion.

    Next up was nitrosport:
I was doing well until level 7 where for some reason i couldn't hit anything including the zombie
    that ate my brains.

    And last up was FibroFreak78:
I've saved the best for last. I got pretty far with this character even though they had a timely death
as well. Things didn't start off so well though. I found a set of banded mail amor. I knew it was much
better than what i was wearing but didn't have a scroll of identify on me. I took a chance and put it on
and what do you know it was cursed (-4 banded mail). The problem with cursed items like many
games, once you put it on it can't be removed without some type of magical item. While wandering
around i ended up in this room.

Through sheer luck i survived this encounter and here is where my luck turned to the good. From all
the treasure i picked up i was able to remove the curse on the armor and replace it with something
better and also collected multiple enchant weapon scrolls. When it was all said and done i had a
+5/+3 mace. I now was able to kill things in one shot that used to take 3-4 shots. Unfortunately my
luck ran out on level 13 when i fell into a pit and ended up at the feet of a nasty troll who killed me.
This is as far as i've made it so far. I finally got out of level 7-8 but now i must start anew.

And now the high score table:

I'm not sure i will be posting any more updates until next week. Me and the wife are going out of town for the weekend down to Miami for a Sci-fi convention. But you never know.
  5. cncfreak
I've decided to play Rogue again. I've never beat it but it's always fun to run-through and see how far i can get. There will be no backing saves up when one character dies, another one is created. Oh and i will be naming my characters after people on Atari-Age who have bought items from me.

    First up was SEgamer:
I made it all the way to level 7 but in the end i ran out of food and kept fainting until i stumbled across a zombie which slayed me. It's pretty crazy how much you faint and not die. I was able to get some food on level 6 to save me but i ran out on level 7 again.

    Next was Crazy Climber:
Poor Crazy Climber never made it off level 1. I ran into an orc who i missed multiple times but was able to finally slay with 2 hit points left but as i turned the corner, I ran into a Kestral which finished me off. From now on I will also post rankings of sorts on how each character ranks since it's provided inside.

This is Cratermaze for the TG16. It's kind of a Bombermanish puzzle game. I can't believe I finished it. At level 15 I was pretty tired of it but kept going.
At level 30 after defeating the first mini-boss I was about to quit but kept going. Finally at level 60, I beat the main boss. It wasn't too bad but very
repetitive. Here is the final boss battle with credits.

  7. cncfreak
Now here's a game it took a little while to beat. This is Titan Attacks. A great retro looking shooter.
This is Space Invaders with power ups and boss fights. I really suck at it but finally managed to get
to the last world but could never get over the hump. Then my hard drive crashes on my laptop and I
lose my save. A couple days ago I re-install it and bam I made it to level 100 and then beat the final boss.
Unfortunately, the game starts back on level 1 once you complete it like some of my favorite Atari 2600
games but I consider this one conquered.

Here's a video of level 100 and the final boss going down.

  8. cncfreak
This completion was a long time coming. I started Torchlight 2 back in 2013 with my wife.
She didn't like it alot but kept playing to entertain me lol. Finally this week she said
"Just complete it, don't wait for me so I decided to give it a go. I was at the very end of
Act III so I was able to finish it in one sitting. On my Youtube channel I also have the last
    few boss battles as well.

Torchlight II is a Hack n' Slash / Action RPG in the same family as Diablo III. As most, they
kinda get boring since its pretty much trudge through tons of battles until you get to the
end. The only saving grace for this genre is the loot. You're always excited to see new rare and
    unique items drop.

So here is the final boss battle with end movie, enjoy.

  9. cncfreak
The second game I beat for 2014 is Final Fantasy: All the Bravest.
It was definitely a swipe-fest but I don't have the hate most people do for it.
Even though it has the Final Fantasy name, it really isn't that great an entry for the series.
You play through a series of battles traveling to various locales to do said battles.
One thing it does have going for it are the retro graphics and Final Fantasy music.
And here is the video showing the defeat of the final boss and end credits, enjoy.

Thought I would mention on here that in two months I've been able to get 100 subscribers.
In celebration I am giving two PS2 RPG's away to one lucky winner. All you need to do is
be a subscriber to my channel and post in the comments to the below video on what game
have you logged the most play time (On Youtube not the Blog Comments). Give me the name
of the game and how many hours you've played it. Single player games only. I'll be drawing
a name this Sunday (March 2nd).

LEGEND OF THE RED DRAGON (LORD)

After 20+ years of playing LORD, I have finally defeated the Red Dragon. If you don't know what LORD is don't worry
it resides in a time long forgotten on a strange contraction call a BBS (Bulletin Board System). Before the internet
us geeks communicated, congregrated on BBSes. One of the favorite all time BBS doors was Legend of the Red Dragon.
It's a text adventure / role-playing game of sorts where you go out into the forest to kill creatures, to gain experience and
then come back to town to train and gain levels. You could do all types of the things in the game, flirt with the local barmaid
and even attack other player characters. If feels pretty good to have finally beaten the game.

Here is a typical play session video I created.

Also here is the final fight with the Red Dragon and end credit of sorts.

I thought I would never do it but I've gone and done it. I've posted my first pickups video. Last week I ordered a Blue Snowball Mic from Amazon and it came in on Friday. Mustering my nerve I went and created a video where I actually show myself and talk. I was nervous as hell at first but once I got a few minutes in, it got easier.

    You can watch it here:

Welp last year I was only able to beat 7 games. Pretty piss poor I must say, but we'll see how 2014 treats me.
Also last week I started my very own You Tube channel. One of my goals is to try and get 50 subscribers.
    We'll see how it goes.

A few months ago I picked up three Sony PVM monitors 2 20" and 1 14". One of 20" monitors has a few issues but the other looks great. The 14" also is great but lacks RGB. I recently purchased an Apple IIgs SCART cable from Roger on Vintageware and got it yesterday. I must say I am very impressed and the Apple II games have never looked better. I didn't get a chance to snap a pic of a GS game but here is Dragon Wars for the Apple IIe/c. Below is Roger's site to order one.

Welp as I said I've been off this week because on Monday I had the right tonsil removed. There was a sizable growth on it Thank goodness it turned out not to be cancer but
some kind of infection so lots of antibiotics and ice cream for me. Also thank goodness Grim Dawn Alpha came out this week so I've been playing a lot of it. If you have ever
played Titan Quest you'll know what type of game it is. Grim Dawn Was a Kickstarter project from some of the guys who created Titan Quest. This has been a labor of love
from them and with it's success Grim Dawn will now see the light of day. With this being alpha I'm not sure of any type of NDA so I'm only going to show the title page and
give a little info. I purchased the $100 option so once the game is complete, I'll be getting a collectors edition. Here's a few words on me playing this week. I decided to play
a soldier as I like up and close characters. One thing i noticed is you just can't run through creatures even with a sword and board. I tried a couple times and got overwhelmed
pretty quick and had to retreat to heal up. After 10 seconds or so of non-combat you'll heal completely. I got to level 13 and completed quite a few quests and have been enjoying it a lot.
  16. cncfreak
Another game bites the dust. This one is call Word Realms. It's a word game where you go on an adventure to defeat the evil Dark Lord who is terrorizing a kingdom.
This was a successful Kickstarter project from last year.

Here's a quote from there website that wraps it up nicely. "A single-player roleplaying video game where your weapons are words. "

You travel around on a map completing quests, clicking on destinations and defeating foes with words. Each area also has a boss. There's also a town where you can
upgrade equipment, find quests and gather information.

I really enjoyed playing the game but i must say i wasn't expecting the ending at all. I hear there is also an alternate ending as well which i'll prolly go for at some point.
I believe i finished it in under 10 hours.

Here are a few screenshots from the ending and yes I believe that final shot is what it appears to be:

Well I went to Gamestop today and picked up a few games. One was Akai Katana. I had heard great things about it and wanted to try it out even though i've never
been good at those type of games. Those type of games are "Bullet Hell Shooters". Millions of bullets coming at you in a certain pattern and it's your job to figure it
out how to avoid taking damage. Akai Katana isn't very long. I was able to beat it in under an hour but it's never about longevity with this type of shooters but playing
them over and over working on getting higher scores. The game was a blast to play and i must say it looks and plays beautiful. I highly recommend it if your in the
mood for a shooter. Best thing it only cost under $14.00.

Here's a few screen shots of the end credits.

The main reason i haven't finished anymore games was because i've been working on finishing up my new game room and tonight i finally finished it.
Go to the link below to take a look at it.

Thought I would chime in on a game i've been playing on and off for the last few weeks. The game is called Bit Dungeon.
It's a mix of Legend of Zelda dungeons (nes) and Rogue. You basically explore a dungeon level collecting money, gear and
health / magic potions and fight various monsters. At the end of each level you fight a boss. Unfortunately there are only a
few different bosses so they end of repeating when you get in a few levels. It's currently available for the iOS and also can
be played via Flash on a web browser. As far as i can tell the game has endless dungeons. I'm currently on level 57. It can
get a little repetitive but for what it is, it's a great way to get a little gaming in when you only have a few minutes. At this point
I am currently going for rank where i am currently 201 out of 24500 on Gamecenter on the iPhone.

Mystery House has been deemed the first graphic adventure. Released in 1980 by Ken and Roberta Williams of On-line Systems, later to be called
Sierra Online. Not much I can say about the game. You basically have to work your way around the house and figure out who the killer is before they
    get you.

Here is a small description via Moby Games:
Mystery House is a four-color interactive fiction adventure game that places the player in a Victorian mansion with seven other people. As the player explores the mansion, he discovers that there is a killer murdering each guest one by one. The objective of the game is to figure out who the murderer is before the murderer finds the hero. Players explore and manipulate objects by typing in one or two-word phrases such as "north" or "get knife".

The graphics are very simple but for 1980 this is a truly monumental game and is still a great classic.

Here is a screen shot of the ending.

Here are a few games I am currently playing. I normally have 3-5 games going at the same time, rotating when i get tired of one.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA) - around 50% mapped
Torchlight II (PC) - not sure how far i am into it
Dungeon Siege I (PC) - 11 hours in
Legend of Zelda (NES) - just started

The Classic games i normally just pick one I played when i was a teenager since they normally only take a few hours to complete not counting RPGs.

Transylvania Double Hi-Res Version (Apple II) - Almost complete

So that's what I have coming down the pipe and hopefully many more.

The first thing I want to mention is ... yeah i cheat. I use faqs, solutions and walk-throughs. I enjoy the experience and story of the game more than trying to figure out puzzles. With that out of the way lets move onto the game. Dark Lord was released in 1987 for the Apple II and Commodore 64 computers. I remember playing this game as a teenager when it came out but never got through it. I decided to do something strange this play-through. I played through the Commodore 64 version and Apple ii version at the same time. Using emulators I was able to accomplish this. I can honestly say if your going to play a version of Dark Lord, make it the Commodore 64. The graphics are better and the sound is much much better than the Apple II version.

The story for Dark Lord is as follows via Moby Games:
"Journey through a magic mirror, which leads you to the alterworld where you must defeat Nequam, the Dark Lord who killed your grandfather. Dark Lord is an adventure game that involves the player reading a description of each scene, and entering one- or two-word commands at the prompt. Some of the commands recognized include GET, EXAMINE, GIVE, and SAY (to have conversations with people you meet"

I really enjoyed finally getting through the game and on two different versions no less. Here are a few final cut scenes for the ending of Dark Lord on the Commodore 64 and Apple II. It took a little over two hours to complete with help.

Welp yesterday after i typed up my entry explaining what i would be doing this year, i was able to Finish Zombie Driver. The game came out in 2009 for the PC. I've always enjoyed mission based driving games and this one is no exception. You basically complete 17 missions and along the way rescue various citizens who are trapped in buildings through out the city. You also get to destroy zombies in all manner of ways. You can ram them, shoot them with machine guns as well as roast them with a flame thrower and unlock new weapons as you complete missions. As the game progresses, you also unlock different vehicles you can drive as well. There are also three different modes you can play. Story mode which is the missions, Slaughter mode which is basically a survival mode and Blood Race which is some type of Tournament racing which I haven't tried yet. I played for about 6 hours and completed story mode. I have also tried Slaughter mode a few times as well. I enjoyed the game a lot for what it is, a simple mission based game where you can destroy zombies.

Below are a couple screen shots I snapped with my I-Phone of the ending. I've put them in url just in case someone doesn't want to see the ending.

Well i figured it was time to update my blog since i haven't done it in a long time (last July). I will get back to Rogue entries as some point probably just picking random Atari Age members to be my characters in the game. In the meantime i decided to make a New Years Resolution. I have over 2000 games in my collection and have only beaten maybe 1% of them. So this year is the year i hunker down and see how many i can beat before December 31st 2013. I will be playing games from 1979 - 2013. I will be using this blog as point of reference for me to keep track of exactly what i complete. Wish me luck.
