GOD i'm such a ninny. I bought a Turbo Grafx cd system ( plastic carrying case / expander and cd unit) years ago at a flea market and it didn't come with a system card. I thought the damned thing was broken. I still have the unit. I remember putting a cd in it and it played so does that mean it might work?

I took a few days off but i'm back with another entry. I only have one entry this time. Coolhand20th is up: Things were going great. i found a suit of leather armor and found two enchant armor scrolls as well as a couple enchant weapon scrolls. Unfortunately on level 9 i got cornered by a centaur and orc and the centaur killed me. And here is the high score:

cncfreak replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Thought I would chime in on the history of me and computers: Very first computer: Timex Sinclair 1000 (was given to me, never could get it to work) mid 80's Ti-994/a (no drives of any kind but i programmed on it for hours and hours loving every minute of it) mid 80's Saved my money and with some help from my parents got an Atari 65xe, 1050 driver, printer and Amdex color monitor (prolly my best memories) 1986 Commodore 64 setup (prolly spent over $1500.00 on games over it's lifetime as a teenager / young adult) 89-92 KLH 386sx 16mhz 2 megs of ram (my first PC and sold it to a friend) 92-94 PC clone 486dx 33 (bought from a friend who built it for me) 94-??? -
I was able to play two characters tonight: First up was accousticguitar: Unfortunately on level 4, I got surrounded by slimes and they did me in. Next up was Rockin Kat: I got pretty far with this one. I was able to stay away from rattlesnakes and found leather armor that I enchanted once so i didn't have to worry about Aquator's destroying it. I also found a longsword and enchanted it. On level 10 i was able to kill 2 quaggas. Unfortunately i had over 1100 gold but accidently ran into 3 leprachauns and before i knew i had less than 300. Also I ran into another quagga and didn't survive. Here are the high scores. Nothing has changed since yesterday:
-
Was able to run three characters today and one has gotten the top score: First up was toiletunes: Unfortunately i put on cursed (-2) leather and on level 3 was killed by a dividing slime. Next up was jkonstan: Unfortunately after some bad luck, I was again killed by a slime on level 2. Last up was frankodragon: I had alot of success with him. I found a few enchant weapon and enchant armor scrolls. I also found a ring of slow digestion which makes you consume food much slower. Around level 9-10 I started running into Aquators which ended up destroying my armor since I couldn't find any leather armor to wear. I was also able to kill 2 quaggas but on level 12, a troll ended up killing me. And the high score list:
-
Just one entry for today: The legendary the.golden.ax gets his turn: As always the rattlesnake bites really did a number on me. By level 7 they had my strength down to 5. On level 9 i ran into the mysterious Quagga again and was able to defeat it, but with my hit points low a centaur jumped me and did me in. And the high scores:
-
I didn't have much luck today but here are today's entries: First up was Bryan: Thing were going ok until i made it to level 7 where i got trapped between a rattlesnake and slime and the slime ended up killing me. Next up was 19Echo: Poor fellow couldn't get off level 1 and was the quickest death so far. Remember the saying trapped between a rock and a hard place, well he got trapped between an orc and a bat and survived with 1 hit point but a kestral showed up and ended the party. Last up was 20ohm20: He only made it to level 2 where multiplying slimes finished him off. And today's high score:

Thanks for following my blog.

I had a chance to play a couple more sessions: First up was sloopy. I thought i would try something different for this character. I would do a speed run. Instead of mapping out every room, as soon as i found the stairs i would take them and descend as fast as I could. It didn't work out that well but it was worth a shot. On level 5 I was surrounded by slimes and barely survived them but a zombie appeared and finished me off. Next up was unholy: It seems this scenario has happened multiple times to me. As i descend i get into many fights with rattlesnakes which completely destroys my strength. Again by level 9 I was down to 3 strength and was killed by one of them. And here is the high scores:

It definitely is. When many other people blog this game and not make backups of their characters, they expect to play Rogue through out the year and maybe have a chance to beat it. One reason I love it. I don't expect to beat the game right away so with lowered expectations, you can enjoy the game for what it is, a hardcore romp of RPG / Hack N' Slash goodness.

I played a couple sessions tonight: First up was evilgonzo. Unfortunately i only made it to level 4 and was quickly surrounded by a dividing slime and killed. Last up was ghost1313. I made it all the way to level 10. On level 3 i had a small mishap where i read a random scroll which put me to sleep. A kestral came along and started beating on me. Fortunately I woke up and was able to kill it. From levels 3-8 i fought many rattlesnakes but kept getting poisoned which took my strength down to 3. I fell into a trap on level 9 which instantly teleported me to level 10. Dazed and confused i wandered around a minute but finally snapped out of it. Unfortunately i wandered into a creature called a Quagga, not sure what it is, but it ended up killing me. And here is the high scores: It looks like it will only hold 10 scores at a time so when i get through all the names, people who are knocked off will get another shot to show up.

Me and the wife had a great time at Supercon in Miami and today after we got back I was able to play a couple games. First up is abc_kid: On level 3 after having a couple tough battles, I fell into a trap which took me down to 1 hp. I was able to survive after waiting around for my hit points to regen. On level 6 after fighting multiple rattlesnakes, my str dropped down to 11 out of 17. Again i was able to survive and continued. Finally a rattlesnake finished me off after it dropped my str down to 6. Next up was bah: Not much to report except a centaur got a few lucky blows in and was able to kill me on level 7. Last up was jtoubeaux: Poor jtoubeaux didn't get off level 1. I continually missed on a hobgoblin which dropped my hit points critically low and before i could do anything a kestral sprung up and killed me. And here is the high scores:

Sorry not at this time.

Thanks silentsolace for your purchases

I just decided to play it as i love trying it out once in a while.

I always liked the mantra KISS (keep it simple stupid). This was the original and it's simplicity is what i like. If by some miracle I am able to complete Rogue i would move onto Nethack.

I burned through quite a few characters this time. First up was save2600: Things were going fairly well until i hit level 4. I entered a room with a slime and started attacking it. But i kept missing and it kept splitting. Needless to say i was overwhelmed with slimes and succumbed to them. Next up was ianoid: I made it all the way to level 8 but through out my adventure ran into quite a few rattlesnakes. Just so you know rattlesnakes poison you which lowers your strength by one. I had fought so many my strength had lowered to 2 out of 16. I barely could kill anything and i had no magical items to remove the effect so a lowly slime put an end to my adventure. Next up was AtariBrian: Things were going well for me until level 8. I stumbled into a teleportation trap which teleported me to another portion of the map and confused me for a bit. There also was a mad centaur in the room that decided it didn't like me so he finished me off in quick fashion. Next up was nitrosport: I was doing well until level 7 where for some reason i couldn't hit anything including the zombie that ate my brains. And last up was FibroFreak78: I've saved the best for last. I got pretty far with this character even though they had a timely death as well. Things didn't start off so well though. I found a set of banded mail amor. I knew it was much better than what i was wearing but didn't have a scroll of identify on me. I took a chance and put it on and what do you know it was cursed (-4 banded mail). The problem with cursed items like many games, once you put it on it can't be removed without some type of magical item. While wandering around i ended up in this room. Through sheer luck i survived this encounter and here is where my luck turned to the good. From all the treasure i picked up i was able to remove the curse on the armor and replace it with something better and also collected multiple enchant weapon scrolls. When it was all said and done i had a +5/+3 mace. I now was able to kill things in one shot that used to take 3-4 shots. Unfortunately my luck ran out on level 13 when i fell into a pit and ended up at the feet of a nasty troll who killed me. This is as far as i've made it so far. I finally got out of level 7-8 but now i must start anew. And now the high score table: I'm not sure i will be posting any more updates until next week. Me and the wife are going out of town for the weekend down to Miami for a Sci-fi convention. But you never know.
-
Well i've never been very good at it but you never know i might actually finish it if i can stick to it and maybe ask for a little help along the way as well.

Created my first blog ever. it's on playing Rogue. You can find it under my blogs here on Atariage.

I've decided to play Rogue again. I've never beat it but it's always fun to run-through and see how far i can get. There will be no backing saves up when one character dies, another one is created. Oh and i will be naming my characters after people on Atari-Age who have bought items from me. First up was SEgamer: I made it all the way to level 7 but in the end i ran out of food and kept fainting until i stumbled across a zombie which slayed me. It's pretty crazy how much you faint and not die. I was able to get some food on level 6 to save me but i ran out on level 7 again. Next was Crazy Climber: Poor Crazy Climber never made it off level 1. I ran into an orc who i missed multiple times but was able to finally slay with 2 hit points left but as i turned the corner, I ran into a Kestral which finished me off. From now on I will also post rankings of sorts on how each character ranks since it's provided inside.

Wow I just noticed Activision games have no music
cncfreak replied to high voltage's topic in Atari 2600
Man Pressure cooker is one of my all-time favorite games for the Atari 2600. What a great game, even though i suck at it hehe.
