  1. Everyone else has inspired me. I picked up two brand new sets yesterday and I'm going to offer both of them to AA members outside the United States at no cost and I will pay the shipping. PM me and I will pick two names from the group of people in 48 hours..... 8:00am Chicago time on Wednesday, March 17th, and I will airmail each set of 4 CD's the same day. Good luck!
  2. Take your time recovering now in order to enjoy the many years to come. On the upside, recovery time is a fantastic time to get to some of those video games you've probably put off for years!
  3. Confirmed. I'll have my complete Lynx collection at the Midwest Gaming Classic (minus the boxes for the games). I have what I proudly refer to as "the complete Lynx multiplayer collection," meaning that I not only have all the games, but multiple games and multiple Lynx's in order to support multiplayer Lynx gaming for all the games that support it. ComLynx gaming is truly a lot of fun if you haven't had to chance to every try it out!
  4. I lived in The Netherlands for two years....I might have seen the blister packs in the Dutch stores in Amsterdam.
  5. I have opened all my games, so I don't have any in the original blister pack, but it was not unusual. There was at least one store....Babbage's maybe.... that put them in the blister packs to help hang them on the store pegs. I liked the blister packaging....those Lynx boxes turned out to be the ones that were never crushed.
  6. Email sent....darn, I wish I had not been offline all day doing my taxes.
  7. I understand completely where you are coming from.....a Wii loaded up with VC titles on a smaller TV I could sit in front of with original controllers would be a great setup. Let us all know about the SNES PowerPak after you get it. I'm curious if the original "in game" saves work as programmed in addition to the save function that seems to come with the PowerPak.
  8. I held out for a long time before getting my Spice Orange GameCube (with the orange GameBoy Player) because I wanted one of the older ones with the Digital A/V port. It took awhile. I think this auction is for one of the newer Spice Orange GameCubes without the Digital A/V port, but it is hard to tell since the pictures don't have a direct photo of the back. However, the box is one of the newer boxes that had the "IBM Technology" logo more prominently displayed.
  9. I already have a GameCube to USB adaptor for the PC....it works very well, but there's not much need for it since a Logitech USB dual shock controller also works just as well for normal PC games. The Wii adaptor I've seen off the shelves locally and haven't bothered getting it because I sit so far from our 52" TV that the Wii is connected to. When I play retro games, I just use the Wii Classic Controller or a GameCube Wavebird, which are both outstanding controllers. I have gotten to be a bit of a "cord hater" over the years. The SNES PowerPak is really interesting ....I haven't seen that before. I am concerned about the incompatibility list , even if you pay the extra for the DSP1 option. I may still get it.
  10. The MOVE games look like they will only be one or two player....there aren't enough bluetooth addresses for simultaneous 4 player games. Article on Engadget
  11. I got my set of 4 a couple days ago (had to get the manager to look in boxes...they had no idea they had them) and installed them today. My laptop is a 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and there are no speed issues at all. Everything works perfectly. My favorite is Asteroids in classic mode.... I love the effects of the black & white burn-in screen. I do wish that the screen space was expandable / stretchable, but that is a minor complaint and I assume it is because the games are compiled in Flash.
  12. I think it would be much easier to gut an Apple IIGS case and install an Atari computer motherboard, even if you have to do lots of cutting.
  13. Wow...that is in MINT condition....even has the original Nintendo packing box. What a fantastic collector's item.
  14. When I went shopping to replace my old APF system I wasn't willing to spend that much and I ended up with a Bentley Pong system for about $25 that was almost new in the box. It has the exact same games (most of the pong systems do) and the paddles have a short cord so the two players don't have to sit on top of the console to use it. The paddles also track extremely well....I was amazed with how smooth the action was. I'll have this system set up at the upcoming Midwest Gaming Classic.
  15. I've been looking for one of those for awhile and the prices can go as high as $90 in mint condition, but very few people are willing to pay that much. About $30 would be a fair price for one in decent but not perfect condition. That model was my first Pong machine as well when I was young. I thought my dad was a hero for bringing it home!
  16. I'm in the same boat with Rev. Rob.... I don't mind DLC for add-ons and enhancements, or for occassional small / cheap games like the Nintendo Wii Ware. However, when it comes to major games, I feel extremely uncomfortable buying a $50-$60 program without the package and media to hold on to. I feel already that I've been getting burned through two examples: I've owned several cell phones that are Pocket PC's / Windows CE, and purchased games and productivity software that were really difficult to transfer to replacement phones. Mostly the reasons were because of the registration of the software on the original phone. So if pay $10 for a program, say Pac-Man, to run on my phone, do I own the program only on that phone or do I own the program and may install it on any phone, long as it is only on one phone at a time? I enjoy a few of the Virtual Console and Wii Ware titles for the Nintendo Wii, and it is possible to play the games on other systems using the SD card, but the games can only reside on the Wii they were purchased on. And if that Wii breaks, you MUST ship your old Wii and new Wii to Nintendo to have the software moved to your new Wii. That's total crap, and because of it I don't buy as many VC and Wii Ware titles as I would like. In addition, if I buy a second Wii (a serious consideration), I now cannot have the software that I purchased installed on two Wii's in the same household. I know that discs and CDs eventually wear out, but for a $50 game, I want the art, the box, and printed instructions. Call me old fashioned, but that art and box are part of the unboxing experience and part of what I am paying my money for. I would like to add one more piece..... I don't believe, for a second, that cost cutting in the distribution channel by implementing DLC will be passed along to consumers in any way. For example, a $50 game might be sold for $35 by skipping retailers, boxing, shipping, printing, etc. However, instead of selling it for $35, it will still be sold for $50. Those numbers are a fictional example....I don't know how costs really break down. But I truly believe that downloadable content will only take away from consumers and not benefit them. The cost savings will not be passed along in the final game price.
  17. I do believe that Laird has a point on the column time devoted to newer systems for a retro magazine. Software reviews and app launches are a dime a dozen for the iPhone and latest game systems. For a magazine with the name "Retro Gamer," I feel the expectation is set for about 90% retro content, followed by a few blurbs on what is happening with new systems (VC on the Wii for example). Just a thought....not a personal criticism in any way to the people behind the magazine.
  18. Count me in this year....I wasn't as active in AtariAge in the past and now I'm a proud card-carrying member (we have cards, right??)
  19. I would love to go with the tube TV's...yesterday I saw a beautiful Curtis Mathis piece of furniture TV that was all wood and speakers the size of a small sofa for $5. Unfortunately, I need to fit 20 systems with 20 TV's into a single Toyota 4Runner.....carrying my two sons as well! That means I'm on a strict flat screen LCD TV diet! I sure wish the older systems looked better on LCD TV's, but you gotta live with what's possible.
  20. I've been testing all my systems and monitors for The Family Game Room section I have. Unfortunately, more systems this year means more monitors and I've had to stock up. My TV / monitor inventory probably has more money sunk into it than the complete video game collection!
  21. There's a few bad burritos and tacos with my name on them waiting for me today! With luck I'll be able to acquire all the games with the food is thrown away.
  22. Do some searching for CUBE Magazine on the 'net. It was a monthly UK publication focused on Nintendo and mostly the GameCube, and every issue came with one or two demo discs that had game reviews, cheat codes, some demo games, etc. I was fortunate enough to drop by a unique US bookstore for a couple years that carried it. Unfortunately for me, the discs were for PAL systems.
  23. I agree with everything you said.... In addition, don't offer auctions at all if you can't pay with PayPal. You may offer other options, but make PayPal one of them. As long as I live, I will never, ever, go through the hassle of using a Money Order ever again. I would also like auctions list HOW the item is being shipped. If it will be by Priority Mail, then say so. If it will be by the slow boat to China, then say so.
  24. I have a lot of Nintendo items, and I agree with the backwards compatibility comments, although I feel Nintendo did a more or less decent job on the GameBoy line, with the exception of removing the GBA slot from the DSi. However, the loss of compatibility from NES to SNES to N64 was a waste since they were all cartridge based and every system did everything it could to make the controllers and cartridges completely different (although at least audio cords could be re-used). The GameBoy Player on the GameCube is still one of the most overlooked accessories for any system ever put on the market...complete GB / GBC / GBA compatibility on the big screen with support for linked games, not to mention conveniences like the Wavebird wireless controllers. The Wii has been a huge step in the right direction with its GameCube backwards compatibility and Virtual Console.
