  1. Yeah, just to update my own situation and in case anyone else has a bricked joystick due to the latest update: I've gotten no help. Not through Discord, nor the email support which just keeps asking me to do the same thing I outlined in my original post, only it takes 3-5 days between replies.

You would be the first person to have this problem, that I've heard of, even with one controller.
The controllers, unless you would interrupt them during their firmware update, cannot get "bricked".

I can't work out what the cause of the problem you're having with the controllers is.
    - Can you plug them into a different USB port as a control check?
    - There is a cycle of options for the Atari button to turn on the controller, wireless.
      Turn-on, turn-off, ignored, turn-on, turn-off, ignored etc.
If the controller won't respond, release press it again, it might just be on the ignore cycle!

I opened a support ticket with Atari, although I have not heard from them since my first reply a few days ago. I have tried other USB ports and I tried the factory reset process. If I understand what you are saying about the Atari button, I have tried that too. It's ok, I am sure we'll figure it out.

  3. I have a lot of sympathy if the guy has a new child, this can't be easy, but it's also OK to call it at this point and ship to the people who don't care about the overlays.

Thanks to another customer who sent their Lynx with BennVenn modded screen to me, this issue is now resolved. Just boot up your LynxGD, check for firmware updates by hitting OPTION1 when prompted and visiting the link displayed on screen. Update to the latest firmware (V1.06 has the fix) by following the instructions and everything should be working correctly.

It looks like the instructions say that the file should be called firmware.upd but when we download it, it's called firmware.ovr - with either work? I can't get my LynxGD to update so I am just troubleshooting. I assume I don't have it in what it considers the root directory, but on Windows I just see a directory come up for the sdcard and the firmware file is there.

    Dark Chambers (Atari 7800)      $2.99

This week there's only one instead of the two games released for Flashback Fridays from the first two weeks. Dark Chambers is a classic console game from 1989 inspired by the 1983 game Dandy. Released for multiple consoles, it's a dungeon crawler maze game.

Never saw Dark Chambers back in the day, this game is a GEM. Having a ton of fun with it.

Where are you based? I can definitely ship my Lynx and GD over to you for testing if needed (and you're not half a world of expensive international shipping away). It's stumped BennVenn at this point and he had suspected it was a code issue with the GD after testing with the additional capacitor on the lcd board.

In the meantime I ordered the elCheapoSD to see if that will work or not.

Hey there! I have had so many problems with my post office and other local shippers lately that I didn't feel comfortable shipping mine to SainT while all the nonsense was going on. (And I apologize for not communicating that to SainT.)

Epsilon748, if you end up shipping yours to him in the UK just let me know and I'll send you $25 through Paypal or Venmo or whatnot to help offset some of the shipping cost, as we'd all benefit here by investigation.  :)

Is this with the bennvenn screen? I did have someone willing to send me a console with this issue so I could investigate, but it has not happened yet. I am happy to try and fix the issue if someone can send a faulty console to me, but I can’t do it blind.

Yes, with BennVenn! That would be incredibly kind. Let me write you a direct message through here so I can send it to you. Thanks for being so great about this!

Green means that it gets power. Red is on when card is accessed. Normal operation is like:

After power on green must work immediately, and after 1-2 secs red is on for short (under 1 sec if I remember correct) . It's because adapter firmware reads SD card parameters.   And red will be on when computer performs 'hard disk' access - SD card, of course - in most cases will see it blinking for shorter/longer time.

Cool - thank you very much. :)

  9. Oh, that's great, glad it was found. I was a freshman in high school when I started calling The Moose BBS. There were a few of them in Rochester that ran Bob Puff's BBS software back in the day. I am going to get the details wrong so I won't chime in at this point, but it was absolutely my favorite BBS software and in 1990 there were plenty of computers and BBS software for various computers to pick from.

  10. I have an Atari 520ST. I also have a Satandisk that I bought a long time ago. The card that the Satandisk has is the one that came with it, a 2GB one with three partitions. I have never been able to get it to work. I was wondering if anyone knew if I was obviously doing something wrong. I am new to the ST but not old systems in general.

I have a 9 volt power supply going to the Satandisk, what I have read is that that's in the range where it should be ok.

I have it connected to the HD port of the ST.

When I give power to the Satandisk a green LED flashes briefly and then a red LED goes on and stays on. It stays on throughout all that follows.

When I turn the ST on it boots, but I don't see anything on my screen that indicates that the Satandisk is being accessed and then I get the green desktop. What I think should be happening based on some videos I have looked at is that some text should appear on the monitor indicating that the Satandisk is active and there should be some folders on the ST's desktop that I could click into. I have never seen that.

I can attach a video of the boot process in case I am doing something wrong. (I have read that sometimes you need to hold the Alternate button down when doing a warm boot, I've tried that as well to no avail.)

Any advice on what I could do next?

  11. Turn on. Turn over. Upside down on the right side there is a small hole. It is color pot access. Put small eyeglass screwdriver in and turn wiggle back and forth. See what that does for ya. Word up.

Thanks, Paul. I turned the 800XL on this morning before work just to see the problem again and color was back. I will definitely look at that pot should that happen again. I didn't know about it, so I appreciate the information. I had left it off for about 8 hours... I guess this is a question for anyone, but are there components that could heat up and knock out color, to where letting it cool down for a bit would "fix" it?

  12. I have an Atari 800XL that is going to a computer monitor via a composite cable. It has been working flawlessly for years.

The other day I left the 800XL on for about 18 hours. When I returned, the graphics were in black and white. I turned it off for a couple days and started it again and color was back.

Today I left it on for about 4 hours and it is giving me just black and white images again. I've checked that the monitor is not at fault, but I am not sure where to begin troubleshooting this. Are there terms that would help me run some searches to find other people with this problem?
