  1. For a change I'm gonna join both you and @Stephen and give this one a 😄, much like the 2600 version this one will probably take, well, perhaps maybe TWICE AS LONG to come up with, and not because I would've requested it either. This one has (so far) taken 20 years and a A8/5200 version may take 40, so I'm not holding my hopes up for this one.
  2. 20 years later STILL no Knight Rider for the 2600, I'll pass. The TV show's legacy carries more weight than this project and it aired twice as long ago.
  3. I'm getting a laugh out of those last two posts, but yes I'm sure there are plenty of Atarians and those here on AA out there who wish that they were in the same predicament that I'm in right now, but FWIW, maybe it IS a good omen to have BOTH systems knowing how superior some games play on the 5200 as opposed to the XL/XE/XEGS in which has far more titles that are too powerful for Big Sexy to handle, so maybe I should consider myself fortunate to have both along with the 7800 and the ColecoVision to go with them, next calendar month I intend to get the 7800 repaired and also get new power supplies for her, the 5200, and ColecoVision, so I don't have to worry about 40-year-old power bricks konking out on me anytime soon. Then also, I will be acquiring the Concerto (7800), AVG Cart (XEGS), and Ultimate SD (ColecoVision) multicarts so that I can FINALLY RELAUNCH THE ATARI REPORT!!!
  4. Also, 5200 Super Breakout just plays, looks and sounds better than the A8 version, I don't think I can put up with that lame green playfield with the bland colored bricks and dull sound and fx on the A8 version. Also you know that Tempest will never be ported over to the XEGS (at least not by AA), and there are some games I would've loved to have ported to the 5200 but nobody here on AA will do so, and that's why I am forced to put up with having both. And there are just so many games on the XL/XE/XEGS that are too powerful for the 16K RAM the 5200 has on her. Does anyone have any inside scoop on or are there any friends of the late Curt Vendel that might have an idea on his projects for RAM upgrades for the 5200 so we can get most of those XL/XE/XEGS ports done for us???
  5. Here's a look at the size difference when put up against my Sony SLV-N51 VCR.
  6. Just as long as I can have 5200 controller capability (twin fire buttons/S/P/R cluster/keypad configuration) as well as the standard 9-pin as an option, as the 15-pin is the 5200 connector, that'll do fine, always nice to have options, but, if I had to have either, or, as long as I can utilize 5200 controllers (maybe with a USB interface) with the option of using my Redemption units for digital play, then an emulator will do me fine if it came down to me having to have one, such as @Stephen has been advocating for years now, at least THOSE, could play BOTH 5200 AND XEGS games in one unit, it would be just a controller compatibility preference after that.
  7. Well, it's yet another 5200 vs. XEGS thread but to be fair I have always liked playing my favorite games that HAVE BEEN converted over to Big Sexy due to the form factor of either the stock CX52 analog controller or even the CX24 7800 or the good-old CX40 Flashback/2600 digital stick combined with a separate keypad when utilizing my Redemption 5200 adapter or even the RetroGameBoyz console controller. It's just that the instant and urgent availability of the needed control with the attached keypad is SO MUCH better than having to scrounge around looking for the right key on the huge keyboard on the XEGS when it comes to things like smartbombs/hyperspace (Defender) or the proper thrust/hyperwarp/shields/etc. (Star Raiders) or the right code to abort missile launch (Countermeasure) or the right type of pitch you want to throw to a batter (RealSports Baseball). Also, having TWO sets of fire buttons also has its advantages over the XEGS when it comes to games like Defender (smartbombs) or Countermeasure (tank turret rotation) or Meteorites (hyperspace) or the awesome Keithen Hayenga creation Tempest (Superzapper). There are also many others that I can't recall off the top of my head even after 40 years of being a 5200 owner that also utilize both sets of fire buttons. When it comes to gameplay, the 5200 wins over the XEGS, hands down. But, when it comes to her overall form factor, the XEGS wins hands down when you put her alongside my Sony SLV-N51 VHS VCR in which I have had since 2020, the 5200 just doesn't look right sitting next to her, but, if she was sitting elsewhere, she would be just fine, now I ask all of you, wouldn't you have wanted the 5200 gameplay and control form factor in an XEGS clone??? that would've been awesome. I don't think that a "mini 5200', or even a DIY kit in which one can build himself, such as some of the ones we have all seen in decades past right here on the AA forums will ever materialize but I would give my left nut right about now if I can send in my 5200 to have the components in her rebuilt into a smaller form factor (preferably a plastic black box, perhaps 3-D printed or injection-molded) wither with or without a cartridge port, if one with an SD card slot and the Atarimax Ultimate SD multicart internals could be built, that would be awesome!!!
  8. Any availability of the ROMs to them, I DO enjoy playing Space Cavern on my Flashback 9 on the SD card I have in her and would love to see someone perhaps finish and release these 3 games for all of us to enjoy, Big Sexy hardly even gets any support from third-party companies but at least we now know that Apollo was planning on it.
  9. Its been 3 years since that post, I got the unit fixed, I cleaned all the bearings and also the optics on her with some WD-40. As for the fire buttons I used some WD-40 on those and cleaned all the contacts. I also got 2 Best Electronics 5200 gold keypad and start/pause/reset cluster replacement kits and swapped out the OEM rubberized ones for those. Everything works 100% now and it's been a year after replacement and cleaning, there was about 40 years of grime and built up dirt and it's gone now, but yes thanks, she works great now... happy ending!!!
  10. ...sounds more like something straight out of the script from WarGames... wtf, did I just start WW3?!?!?! I meant to pay the utility bill, not launch an MX missile, oh shit we're all gonna die!!!
  11. WOW, TWO Atari legends, gone before their time, on the 5200 side, Curt Vendel, and now the iconic Glenn The 5200 Man. R.I.P. to both of them and may both their legacies as well as their contributions to the Atari 8-bit communities that both we 5200 and A8/XL/XE/XEGS owners are proud to be a part of live on for all time. THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU!!!
  12. SPECIAL THANKS goes to @fdr4prez for being able to find the proper 1980s font for "5200" as used on the packaging!!! (.zip file down below) BTW, to @Albert and also @CPUWIZ and other moderators, please include this attached font (1983 "2600", "5200", etc.) into the AtariAge font catalog Here is a pic of what should be my brand new logo for the SuperReport to go along with my new haircut (the first one I've had IN 30 YEARS!!!) 13. Here is a sample of my new show's logo and official wallpaper!!! Any questions or comments or suggestions please feel free to comment.
  14. Nope, this, is the font I'm talking about, notice the font of the "5200" part of the example logo on this attachment.
  15. Well we all know where to find and download the font for ""ATARI" but I am having a tough time trying to find the font for the part of the script/wordmark logo that is the numeric font used in 1983 for "2600", "5200", so I can create another screenshot for use on my monitor for a new series im working on for my Ray Jackson YouTube channel called "ATARI 2600 - Old School Nu Skool" in which compares 1980s ports of arcade hits with the newest homebrews of those very same games like Burgertime/Chaotic Grill, Lock n' Chase/Lucky Chase and so on.
  16. ...or at least a YouTube video or an .mp4 file of it (AA now allows straight-up .mp4/.mp3 files to be uploaded direct to this board, no YouTube BS needed!)
  17. Well it turns out I have BOTH the Pete's cartridge and also the Diagnostic Cartridge v2.3, here they are right here, they were uploaded in 2004 according to their logs. I wonder which ones are legit and fully work, I have SO many versions of them in my files (not on my Atarimax though). Diagnostic Cartridge v2.3.bin Pete's Diagnostic Cartridge.bin Pete's Diagnostic Cart.bin Pete's Diagnostics (1982) (Atari).a52 Atari Diagnostics V2.3 (1983) (Atari).bin
  18. I'm severely worried about voiding the warranty on my Best-modded controllers as removing anything will constitute nullification of that warranty. With that said, can I use my Retro Game Boyz 5200 stick with its trim pots on it to do the alignment instead or will that not work, again this happens with mainly Qix, and Vanguard.
  19. I will indeed look into my menu on my Atarimax to seem if I have the test cart program on it and get to work on it.
  20. I have been having this issue with my 2-port 5200 on a couple of games, mainly Vanguard, and Qix. It seems like, for some weird reason, that when I try to go down on these 2 games (using a Gen 1 Atarimax Ultimate SD multicart) using a digital controller, being either my Retro Game Boyz custom 5200 stick, or any CX40 or CX24 with either generation (AtariAge/Pixels Past or Nimbleswitch) or edition (2600/Sega or 7800) of Redemption 5200, the movement goes up, and that, can be costly. After a game is finished it eventually corrects itself. I tried other ports (.a52 and .bin files) of these two titles, and still, same result. I believe no other games were affected by this problem but if anything comes up I'll let you guys know. Is this an issue with the chip, if it is a Rockwell as I have most recently been reading about it having issues, or something else.
  21. That, is right here!!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/166038274121?hash=item26a8a70049:g:ERMAAOSwhvVkPepQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwF9u0CX3irQo3TrT%2BSaMmhmtXHgsEmgANZyHPxLNGk3YxKtaTs7wReXmH10WEKfdEHAN2%2BB4H%2FBV%2Fh9HYG3WZi8e3648MAacwuS4nfALFKZe8jyAcFmBPXfqXaJCtHd7bUsEAS37y5Dp8bnWzPm3lgcRcsgvYoBFkw2XrwV2qiW1dc7Wcd%2FzCq8XsZutZeYQIcaZInNBQrH%2FZp7UWCixJEQpsiXjIYasgGh6o2CAZU1m%2FJtru8IStg%2BQXzsTI8ud7Q%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_z58pT2YQ
  22. It DID, I found the Atarisoft unreleased ROM of Pac-Man. It is actually a damn good port. It was SO good that Atari held it back for fear it might take away from sales of the 5200, otherwise Coleco would've pretty much blown the 5200 out of the water in the third-wave console wars. If it had been released, ColecoVision owners would've had BOTH Donkey Kong (CV console-exclusive even though A8 owners had both it and Pac-Man) AND Pac-Man while we 5200 owners would've been feeling left out, even though we already were, because to the legalities of having separate console and computer rights back then, until the A8 version of Donkey Kong was finally ported over to the 5200, albeit couple of decades ago. Here is that Atarisoft version of Pac-Man: Pac-Man.rom
