Here is that link to the 9v power adapter for the 5200. https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Regulated-Switching-Interchangeable-Equipment/dp/B0BFPXZ7S1/ref=pd_ybh_a_sccl_1/133-0085399-3166043?pd_rd_w=HDyVz&content-id=amzn1.sym.67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_p=67f8cf21-ade4-4299-b433-69e404eeecf1&pf_rd_r=TWMEFQ3V6MBQZP0H8JKV&pd_rd_wg=WnGeJ&pd_rd_r=76fa5b94-e163-456f-888b-50705dd27573&pd_rd_i=B0BFPXZ7S1&psc=1

Thanks but checked out the specs on her, that's a 12v adapter, the 5200 runs on a 9v system, and this would FRY it being 3v over specs, but there's got to be a way we Big Sexy owners can avoid having to rely on vintage 40-year-old power bricks. Would also like to know if there's also one for ColecoVision as well.

Simple question, we've seen 2600 and even XL/XE/XEGS power adapters (from The Brewing Academy) with those new transverse-mounted plug blades for fitting in rather tight quarters, this plug design is commonly used on so many new electronics, I wonder if there were any for the 5200 (and also 7800 as well).

SHE-AH!!! Good call Garth!!! (closet Wayne's World fan here, even have the original VHS I converted onto DVD and did have Wayne's World 2 in which while it was good fell kinda flat compared to the original.) No wonder why Coleco bit the dust well before Atari ever did. The ADAM was a mere Atari XL/XE wannabe/never-will-be

Just like the thread title states, hey, since Atari originally designed (and almost released, under their newly-penned-up moniker, Atarisoft) some of its titles for ColecoVision, like Pac-Man, Centipede, and Dig Dug, if Coleco had returned the favor, which games would YOU have wanted to see released by them for the 5200 (not including Zaxxon as it was released officially by Sega in 1985 in 16K form and later by AtariAge in an improved 32K form, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior don't count because the A8 versions would eventually be ported over years later, and Venture and Omega Race also don't count either, since Video 61/Atari Sales has already done the honors with their great versions of those two titles, those being Venture and the renamed Delta Space Arena, in which pretty much is their version of Omega Race). Here are mine: Space Fury Pepper II Cosmic Avenger Mouse Trap LadyBug WarGames (Coleco DID do an A8 version of this game inspired by the 1983 movie but it was considered too powerful for the 5200's limitations)

Although my Flashback 9 has been getting the brunt of attention of my gaming, in which has been greatly reduced due to lack of motivation, I'd still prefer the 5200 over even it or the 2600. And as for any controller issues, those have already been settled long ago, with both Redemption 5200 and also with Retro Game Boyz with their amazing work, and of course, the legendary CX53 trak-ball. And for paddle usage, well my ProPaddle 2 controllers settle that problem, now, all we need are some more games, although we have almost 500 options when it comes to that, but there are about 6-8 more titles I'd love to see converted over from the A8, but even if they don't I'm still fine. Between that and my ColecoVision I'm all good, the other consoles (7800 and XEGS) I have are only merely for reviewing games for bringing back The Atari Report.
-
This looks like a terrific alternative to a Flashback 9 for me so I won't have to ever worry about incompatibility with ARM-based games or of third-party controllers like my CX80 trak-ball, plus the ergonomics of the supplied controllers were probably inspired by the CX24 (7800) and CX52 (5200) controllers, and that the console design looks like it was patterned after the 7800 also. Just a 2800 (or in my case the Video Arcade II) in my home theater area (with my other units in the home arcade area and that would be perfect. One question how many (Atari-branded) 2800 units were put out as opposed to the Sears rebranded ones? Already own the Harmony Encore BTW.

...and even though they did, those of us who waited until all the bugs were ironed out and all the hype subsided and knew that we could get Pac-Man to go with Super Breakout still bought one. And while yes Super Breakout wasn't the best choice for a pack-in game we knew we could get Pac-Man to go with it. When I got my first 5200 on my 17th birthday some 40 years ago (May 19th I'll be 57 and still an Atarian) I also got Missile Command and a Trak-ball to go along with her that night. A few days later we got both Centipede and Pac-Man to go along with her and it was game on after that!!!

Yeah but to be fair to Atari, even they were not aware of nor did they have the knowledge about HOW MUCH game developers over the past 40 years would exploit the true (but unheard of at that time) capabilities of these so-called "inferior" systems. We've seen how much has been done by homebrewers all over the world, including some of our very own like @Ryan Witmer, and all the ABBUC software contest entries we have seen the past several years that are pushing the absolute limits beyond what we could've imagined back in 1979-89, the 8-bit A8/5200/XEGS original lifespan. This is why I still love my 5200 and also have an XEGS as well. We've all seen (and played) most of the most beautiful works of game programming over the past 20 years alone, not just on 8-bit, but also on the 2600 as well, with ports like Galagon and Gorf Arcade from @johnnywc John Champeau's Champ Games. Hell, nobody ever thought that a decent 2600 version of Qix was even remotely possible, but then Champ Games decided to "ARM" (Champ Games' exclusive technology) its own programs with extra RAM much like the old Arcadia/Starpath Supercharger did giving it tremendous capabilities we never thought before. Qyx is a top-notch game that FINALLY gives 2600 owners their share of this underrated arcade classic. Others have also put out masterpieces for it too, like @DINTAR816 did with his rendition of Pac-Man, and there are so many more to count but I can't right now as it's getting near shuteye time for me as I have to get to work tomorrow morning for my shift over at Safeway at 6:00 am so I'll leave the rest up to you guys.

I also USED TO own some of those games on cartridges (Klax was one of them, along with Combat 2: Advanced, and also Haunted House 2 3D) before I sold them both due to already having the ROMs and an Atarimax to run them on and also because I needed the $$$ as well, in that big liquidation I had in 2019 of my entire 5200 cartridge library and some of my accessories.
-
As a matter of fact I have the entire library of ROMs of the Mean Hamster titles, and even though I have never played any of them I'll indeed give them all a spin and maybe post a review on The Atari 5200 SuperReport as soon as I get my (proverbial) head out of my duff and finally do the in-game voiceovers on "Space Assailants 2121" (Episode 3) and "Turmoil" (Episode 4) in which is the only thing I have yet to do on those episodes, they were filmed a month ago, but not posted due to lack of motivation caused by the lack of viewership of my channels and the low numbers related to it. It's hard to "keep posting away" when you get SO discouraged due to and by poor-to-low viewership and subscription numbers, so help a brother out AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
-
Then how does it work?
-
I believe that Mean Hamster has been defunct for quite a few years now so technically they are considered "abandonware" but even though I myself have all of the ROMs I won't venture into any "insider" deals when it comes to the distribution of them unless we find out that they truly are out of business.

How about a hack of the brilliant 5200 port of the A8 classic, Yar's Strike, the only change I would want made to this port is for the shield to be in the same red or red-orange as it is on Yars' Revenge for the 2600, other than that keep everything else the same. Yar's Strike.bin

I know it's been 10 years since the last post on this thread but how about a hack of the brilliant 5200 port of Yar's Strike, the only change I would want made to this port is for the shield to be in the same red or red-orange as it is on Yars' Revenge for the 2600, other than that keep everything else the same.
