  1. It's a great thing that I still have my original 5200 unit (U.S.A.-made 4-port, serial no. 141101) that I got for my 17th birthday back in 1983.
  2. I noticed also (I haven't visited AtariAge in a few months, I just re-logged in) that there was no longer an online store, perhaps Albert can maybe shed some light on this. I just sure hope it was not because of Infogrames and their lawyers that the store is offline right now. I have bought several homebrews, repros and Redemption 5200 units from AtariAge in the past and I just wondered.... Albert, what happened?
  3. I always enjoyed the opening themes to both Ballblazer and Rescue On Fractulus. Those would be perfect on CD, but who composed those title themes (other than George Lucas as they both were Lucasfilm/Atari collabs) as used on the cartridges themselves, a modern day version on Ballblazer would be great to do with today's synthesizers (with bonus extended dance remixes), while Rescue On Fractulus could also be done by an orchestra
  4. I have always loved playing Yars' Revenge, and I dearly miss playing it since selling my 2600 and its collection a few years back. I have always wanted to see a 5200 8-bit conversion of this great game, and I was wondering if any of you ever tried to make an 8-bit prototype for it, that would have sold tons of units had Atari ever thought of it back in the day.
  5. What is the serial number on your system, Gabriel? I gave mine out earlier in this same post. Also is it a U.S.-made 4-port or a Taiwan-made 2-port unit?
  6. Oh, speaking of more sports simulations, how about RealSports Arena Football, RealSports Canadian Football (both very different and more complex than our football here in the States), and a home version of Cyberball: 2087 As for arcade simulations I DO want to see Galaga, as well as a 5200 version of the 400/800/XL/XE favorite, Donkey Kong, and also 5200 versions of two of my favorite 2600 games of all time, Yars Revenge, and Video Pinball Others arcade simuls include: Space Duel Omega Race Quantum, and Liberator (both perfect for use with the trak-ball) Black Widow (perfect for the dual controller holder)

    starcade?

Me too, I picked it up on KTLA and also on WTBS on cable back then, and in later episodes Geoff Edwards was the host of it all the way up to the playoffs when they gave away and arcade coin-op to the champion. Ah, the memories of days gone by. BTW, what's their official website where I can view the classic episodes? Or, does GSN ever have them on every once in a while?
  8. I have had my 5200 since 1983 (serial number 141101, U.S.-made 4-port), when I got it and a trak-ball along with Missile Command for my 17th birthday (5/19/83), mainly as a deterrent to me wasting my allowance on arcade coin-ops. I felt like the hottest kid in my class at Erikson Center, for sure I would have won over my former classmate/then-first crush Cindy Margolis (yes we did go there together and graduated together the following year) back then, but, apparently not. I also found out she already had a boyfriend at the time. Ah yes, the memories of 1983, new wave was the hot music then, so were Flashdance, my Atari 5200, and being a surfer-dude wannabe like Jeff Spicoli (played by Sean Penn) from Fast Times At Ridgemont High. BTW, I still have that same 5200 to this day, with almost 80 games for it, including all the carts that came out back then, except for Meteorites and Bounty Bob Strikes Back (both games sold for much-needed $$$ due to 8 months of unemployment and a huge debt I had to pay off)
  9. Put me down for one. I have been waiting for Tempest on the 5200 for 25 years. Me too. I have been waiting for it to come out since the legendary Cindy Margolis and I both graduated from high school together at Erikson Center in Tarzana, California back in 1984. BTW, speaking of Erikson Center, you are lucky just to even survive Erikson Center, let alone graduate from there like we did.
  10. You would think that maybe Atari Canada may have had it available, especially with NHL Hall Of Famer Wayne Gretzky's national popularity in that great nation rivaling that of the Prime Minister of Canada at the time (1980-88), but apparently not. As both a league bowler and also a hardcore Denny's PBA Tour fan http://www.PBA.com I second that RealSports Bowling idea as well. Also a RealSports Basketball (which was slated to come out for it originally in 1983) and a hacked and completed version of Asteroids would be nice too.
  11. Wow, the Redmption being discontinued (?!?!) Good thing I got two 2600 adapters and two 7800 adapters back in 2002, after finding this great site thanks to some Atari 5200-related auctions (hosted by AtariAge) on eBay.

    Wico woes

I myself use the Wico Keypad with a Redemption 5200 2600/Sega adapter for use with either my Wico 2600 "red-ball" stick for regular games like Pac-Man or Space Dungeon, or, the Atari 2600 Trak-ball for Centipede and Millipede, but, this setup won't work with either Missile Command or Super Breakout as they rely on the analog "feel" of the stock or Wico 5200 stick (if set to "non-centering"), which leaves me no other choice but to use the 5200 Trak-ball in whick the fire buttons are a bit inconsistant and suspect in critical situations (MIRV's in Missile Command, repetitive fire mode in Centipede/Millipede, etc) To get back on the subject of the Wico keypad brought up earlier, imagine this touch-tone-quality bad boy being used with a stick for either Star Raiders or Space Shuttle where you can have three persons participate, "Star Trek" style (not the game), where one could fly the star cruiser and activate the photons with the stick, one could activate the defense controls with the very-reliable Wico keypad, and one can play "Captain Kirk" and command the action (easy chair anybody?) Pretty cool, huh?
