  1. well i had a Lynx I for years, but then when the DC plug broke, i sent it to Atari. They then sent me a Lynx II instead of fixing the Lynx I...... and I was totally shocked but also delighted. + Lynx II has better grip and looks cooler + no stupid door to close around game carts + batteries are easier to insert and remove in my opinion + backlight button helps save some battery power if you need to pause for a while - not as loud - picture not quite as good - kinda thick so really i think there's some good and bad, but in general the Lynx II looks more modern and feels more sturdy. the only reason to have a Lynx I is for collecting purposes if you ask me.
  2. well i'd never leave my lynx alone in the car. just in case criminals here are smarter than where you live. One time i left my doors unlocked in my brother's driveway. and some thieves stole my CD's (mostly burned CD-Rs mixed), my owners manual, and my garage door opener. Morons. we reprogrammed the garage door. so really, they didn't get anything worth much. must have been stupid kids, the ignition wasn't even damaged, meaning they probably didn't even attempt to steal my car.
  3. Awesome find man! I'm jealous! the local place i get games at sometimes only has 1 copy of NFL football (which i hear is horrible) and games i already have. I wish i could find Stun Runner, Rampage, Klax, and Double Dragon. I'd probably pay $10 for each of those games! I know you can buy them online, but after shipping, the more rare games get a bit too expensive for me.
  4. Try to contact Bradley Koda at Best Electronics bestelec@concentric.net He sells replacements for Atari pruducts. Thanks. I just sent him an email. hey just curious how that came along. Did you get your power plug fixed? I had that SAME problem with my lynx 1, then the same thing happened with my Lynx II. I just play with batteries, since i'm not willing to risk breaking the unit completely.
  5. actually I love Steel Talons. It's not too hard to just pick up and play for a few minutes (the first level should only take you 1:15 or so). The controls are great if you ask me. You can fly up, down, left right, twist either way, and you can increase or decrease throttle. missles, rockets, and a machinegun. I picked the game up for like $8 i think, one of my best Lynx games in my opinion. The quality doesnt quite compare to games like Ninja Gaiden (like the arcade, not nes), California Games, or Road Blasters. Also, as usual, there is no continue, password or save feature.
  6. dang, i just noticed the end date is past. My personal best that i remember is 747, not sure what my highscore screenshot is on my other computer.....
  7. well i've read this thread and I agree with some people, but not completely. While yes, Kung Food is NOT the worst Lynx game ever, its NOWHERE near the quality of games like Ninja Gaiden, Viking Child, California games, etc etc. The worst part is the lack of any continues or a password system. I never make it past the floor level. It's a funny game and something worth showing people, but not the kind of game most of us are addicted to. I play Ninja Gaiden, Steel Talons, California games, and Warbirds A LOT more than kung food. and to the people that say Tournament Cyber Ball is worse, I agree. The graphics are good, and the sound is ok, but the lack of "running" game is a killer. If they could have improved the effectiveness of the Running backs in TCB, then it would have been a MUCH better game.
  8. Batman Returns is a solid platformer with great animation and sound f/x coupled with responive controls. The first level is almost laughably easy once you've played it a couple of times. It's trivial to dodge most of the clown enemies, and even the giant rubber ducky boss (yes, you read that right) is pretty simple to take out from afar with batarangs. The primary negative (and admittedly, it's a big one) is on the 2nd level. If you jump between buildings and get hit by a shotgun blast, you fall straight down and it's instantly game over. That's very unfair to the player, and should have been caught and fixed in playtesting. I wouldn't put Batman Returns in the top 10 list for the Lynx, but it's far from horrible in my book. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 rating. FWIW. well there are just a few issues with Batman returns that really bug me. 1. No continues 2. you can only die once 3. clowns are scary haha. But yeah the graphics and sound are good, but I never found the game enjoyable. I think i enjoy all my other lynx games more.
  9. I got my first Lynx (the original model) brand new in like 1990 at Electronic Boutique (EB games). I got the package that included California games and i got Blue lightning in the mail for free. then a few years later the AC plug broke, so I sent it back to atari. They then said they would only replace, but with a LynxII. I bought 2 or 3 games new probably, but almost all i have bought used from various video game stores around my state. The last games ive bought were last year Warbirds, Chips Challenge, and Steel tallons. Each were $5 or $8 each. I'm up to like 13 games now i think.
  10. thats a decent deal. Its hard enough to find copies of NGIII and Lemmings. but with Ninja Gaiden and a Lynx unit. $50 is a great deal. AVP for the lynx is pretty much garbage from what i've seen using an emulator.
  11. my favorite Lynx games are California Games (by FAR), Steel Talons, Warbirds, Ninja Gaiden (just like the arcade version), Kung Food, Blue lightning, and Chips Challenge. I would NOT recommend Cyberball or Batman returns. Those 2 games are just plain horrible!
  12. haha, as if we'd sell our games. I play most of my lynx games every week. Mostly Warbirds, California games (which is really like 4 games in one), Kung food, and Ninja Gaiden. but the lame games i keep just to have in my collection. i'd try Ebay if i was you.
  13. if it was like the 2600 flashback, it would just have a handful of games built in. maybe like California games, Blue Lightning, Chips adventure, Stun Runner, Road Blasters, Warbirds, and Hard Drivin. Now that would be sweet! oh well..... we can dream right?
  14. my family had a 2600 when i was in preschool (like 1984 , 85)i think. I played that thing with my brothers here and there, but the games we had on our computer were better. Then like 10 years later I bought an atari lynx. I still haven't met a person in real life that even knows what it is. everywhere i go, people are like "what the heck is that?" And my Lynx II is in great shape, so people think its new. LOL.
  15. Ok, so i read the online instruction manual (here on Atari age) and i figured out how to land. and if you are just playing against the computer, it does not matter what the hangar looks like (the different colors is when you are playing against other people). If you read the instructions and follow closely its not too hard. Be sure you're flying low (white hand of the altimeter in the green range), and you're flying no more than half your maximum speed. Then when you get close to the barn, turn off the engine, then press option 2. if you are going too fast, or you are too high, it wont work. also be careful, if you have somebody on your tail, he will kill you as you are landing.
  16. man I'm jealous. I want a copy of Stun Runner. That game is great. and i'm trying to get a copy of Desert Strike for a reasonable price. (i have it on a compilation for the psp, but it doesn't play very well) some must haves would be: Blue lightning California Games (very addicting) Steel Talons Warbirds Ninja Gaiden (very hard, still haven't beat it) Kung Food (also somewhat hard, and some dont like it, but i think its awesome)
  17. I have to pay for shipping. Warbirds, GoZ and Roadblasters might be good, but what I really want is Dracula, Joust, Robotron 2084, Todd's Adventure in Slime World, Pinball Jam and Lemmings. well robotron 2084 is a 2 joystick game, so i cant imagine it being very good on the lynx. Todd's adventure in slime world isnt too rare, im sure you can find that one.
  18. if you want a fighting game on the lynx. your only option is Pit Fighter. Sadly the controls in that game are horrible and the computer can have an unfair advantage at times. But i think the graphics in Pit fighter are way better than anything i've seen on Neo Geo Pocket. That little thing is really cheaply made and is no match for the Lynx in my opinion.
  19. i wouldnt worry about the game itself. its usually the console that is a pain to take through security. I have had to take mine out of my backpack and out of its carry case several times. The Lynx II is especially thick, so the x-ray machine doesnt see through. so i guess I'm glad that security is paying attention to possible "bomb looking" devices. so just pack your lynx in your backpack loose then put it in the little plastic bin with your shoes. That way they wont bother you. You don't look suspicious to you? haha Just kidding!
  20. wow, i didn't know you could land. I have the game too, but I usualy set it to unlimited ammo or I just die before i run out. do you just shut the engine off and come in really slow to the hangar door or what? I guess i'll have to try landing at the barns some more. last time i tried i crashed into the barn, so i figured it was just for looks.
  21. yeah i am tempted to get a copy. but since i have a PSP, i might just get the PSP version. considering how rare the Lynx version is, i bet the new psp version will be a bit cheaper. how much did you guys pay? (if u dont mind me asking)
  22. all that for 60 dollars? not a bad deal. the games are each worth like 8dollars each and I would pay like 40 dollars for a good lynx (my lynx model 2 still works just fine though). That's a decent collection of games too. I highly recommend road blasters and warbirds. cyberball is ok and gates of zendocon is so so. Haven't played blockout, but i recall its like tetris. but the other items included are sweet. Is one of the bags the one that is really narrow and has 2 little pouches? If so, that's the one I have. It can hold about 10 games , the lynx, and 6 extra AA batteries. One thing you'll definitely have to be careful with is the wall adapter. the part on the lynx where you plug it in is somewhat fragile. I've had 2 lynx break right there, and then only worked on 6 AA batteries. and you'll definitely want to invest in some good rechargeable AA batteries.
  23. yeah, i wish there was a way to hook up a lynx to a tv. they should have built it with a video-out port where the comlynx port is. but for some reason they couldnt. personally i am not skilled enough to take my lynx appart to try to mod something like that. but maybe somebody will perfect it.
  24. i dont think you're risking any damage as long as the voltage is correct. AC adapters are designed to not spike and fry equipment. With Portable stuff, its usually easier to plug into the wall then connect the plug into the lynx, gameboy, phone, or whatever you are connecting.
  25. um i dont have either of those. I have a Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, and a Lynx II.
