  1. There aren't any stand-alone Gamy Crazy stores in my area. Does this also apply to Hollywood Video stores with game Crazy sections? -MS
  2. Shooters I'd recommend-- Aero Blasters: good action and music... you'll find yourself humming tunes Dead Moon:fairly good Sinistron So-so shooters-- Space Harrier: not bad, but I enjoy the SMS version more, for some reason Deep Blue: never got into it Side Arms: this isn't bad but it just seemed to fall short of my arcade recollections... not sure how. Great/ intersting games of other genres: Dungeon Explorer: fun dungeon crawl. Hook it up to your stereo anfd enjoy! Parasol Stars: Fun! Let the time suckage begin. Bomberman: do I need to explain this? Final Lap Twin: don't skip the bizarre RPG mode! Ick: China Warrior Turrican Most of my other games fall in the decent category, but I tried to restrict myself to shooters and a few standouts. Enjoy the Turbo! -MadSci
  3. 32,023. I gave it a few rounds on MacMESS; if I find time, I'll submit an update. I was a little surprised that I didn't own a VCS copy of this... my brother and I played it often enough, but only by the occasional short-term swap with friends. I must have mistaken my spare SW:TESB for this one. I do have a Mac floppy version, though... I may have to unearth it and give it a few rounds, too. -Eric
  4. 22,200 Boy, I hate those double-low bouncing balls... I'm just starting to figure them out.
  5. 15,300... I'm thinking "participation point" for me.
  6. I've experienced it on DVDs, as well (on someone else's player, not my Samsung Nuon 501, although it colud happen on anything, I suspect). Re: the Cinepak CD: I finally got it to work, but only by trying other trial software. I downloaded on a G4 Mac in the lab and copied the files; used WinRAR on my home PC; and burned using Alcohol 120% on the PC, which can handle Nero images. The video quality was pretty good, right in line with the JagCD/3DO FMV of the era (and better than some). I did not have the control list handy when I tried it, so I'll give it another run soon and see how the interface works. A menu system would be great for any later releases, such as movie trailer collections, but this conversion was a great effort! -Eric
  7. May we use the Zeller's "Busy Police" as a substitute? The ROM is available here, unlike the Activision version. I only have Keystone Kapers for the 5200, and my local used game store does not have the VCS version in stock, either. If we can use Busy Police, I'll try it in Mac MESS. -MS
  8. 44,080. Trying to fit in one more game... -MadSci ...Make that 77,600.
  9. What's the best way to extract/ recombine these on an OSX.3 Mac? I downloaded DiscBlaze, as recommended, for burning the CD. However, Stuffit Expander cannot open all of the files... #1 works, but attempts on #2&3 failed. Given the failures, I did not try it on all of them. If anyone cares, it was Error #17999: "Unspecified StuffIt Engine Internal Error." Also, what settings should be used in DiscBlaze to produce a Jaguar-readable CD? Is it a format that can be used without paying $30 for the Pro version of the software? It seems that "disc image" burning may require the $$ version. Thanks for any tips. If nothing else works, I do have an _old_ version of Nero on my home PC... I could transfer the files to it on a CD and try to extract/ burn it there. -Eric
  10. 33,820... fun playing this game again, but just too little time to play it (or anything else), as it's a will-the-home-and-garden-projects-ever-end sort of week/month. I'll try it again sometime with the maps mentioned earlier in this thread. -MS
  11. I'd like to join to group, if I may still do so... Oystron score 6630. I wish I had read the thread and decided to try out my cart before last night... fun game. Looking forward to Solaris. -Eric (MS)
  12. How about: Demolition or Grout (Grout-Man could work...) -Eric
  13. I just finished it last weekend (Xbox version, if there is more than one). It's not necessarily groundbreaking (although some of the language and character design do test some limits), but it was a fun action-RPG ride. The humor sprinkled throughout was appreciated. My only tips would be to primarly use melee weapons with area effects (monster ripper and such) for most enemies, saving the fun stuff like miniguns for the bosses... it makes them a bit easy, but still satisfying. For the female character, I recommend beefing up her melee combo, sadist, and healing skill levels; man's best friend is also a good investment. I didn't find much use for explosives. -Eric
  14. I kinda figured... unless, of course, you live in the Land of the Giants... -MS
  15. I' ve heard of the companies, but this computer was a new one to me. A quick visit to www. older-computers.com shows that this was a CP/M machine. Perhaps you should search for CP/M- language programs, as opposed to searching for proprietary ones. The system used 360 kb floppies, with the disk controller located within the F1 drive; I hope you got a working drive with it! -Eric
  16. I briefly tried out a DS at Circuit City today. Both screens were nice (clear picture, good touch reponse), sound was good, and there were actually enough buttons (albeit undersized ones). I did have a gripe, though: the lousy location for the power button. It is located just above the top of the D-pad, where brief accidental contact can shut down the unit. I actually did so while trying it out... Anyone else notice this/ consider it a problem? -MS
  17. Golden Axe Warrior R-Type Penguin Land Teddy Boy (favorite card) Alien Syndrome Choplifter! Maze Hunter 3D (favorite 3D game) -MS
  18. Yes, I remember it. It killed my first "serious" computer (an IBM Aptiva x486); the installer worked its horrible mojo on the poor, poor OS, and I had to reinstall everything. I never did get the game to work properly. The disc probably still lays in the CD graveyard of my desk. -MS
  19. TI-99/4A. I enjoyed it quite a bit as a kid. To be fair, I haven't played several of the other versions mentioned. Did any other versions require you to rotate your controller 1/8 turn for your controller and screen alignment to propertly correspond? I'm not sure why this was necessary, since even the "four contact" controllers (like the 2600's and the TI's) were capable of 8-way movement when held normally... -Eric
  20. For Xbox: Knights of the Old Republic Gladius Smash TV (Midway Collection)
  21. It's the same here as elsewhere. The local stores pulled the items on the list and will be putting them back out in bins when the next sales circular comes out (Sunday). However, I did get two Xbox titles @ $4.99; neither one was on the list, IMHO: Pirates of the Caribbean and Blackstone. I had seen both on clearance elsewhere (albeit for a fair bit more), so I took a chance on a price check. They both seem worth the price. [As a footnote, Gladius is also well worth the price; I paid ~$19 for mine about a month ago, and it was money well-spent. I am only about half-way through with ~50 hours logged, and the battles are still interesting.] I also confirmed that not all copies of a given title will scan @ $4.99; it depends upon the specific SKU sticker (i.e., Greatest Hits or non-clearance bargain bin SKUs for a listed game may not qualify). -Eric
  22. I visited the new PrePlayed location in Madison and found all of the following for $0.99 each: 5200 Keystone Kapers Activision 3 2600 Tanks But No Tanks ZiMAG 5 2600 Decathlon Activision 3 2600 Zaxxon Sega 3 2600 Popeye Parker Brothers 2 2600 Spider-Man Parker Brothers 3 INTV SW: TESB Parker Brothers ~3 CV Front Line Coleco ~2? CV BurgerTime Coleco ~2? CV Mouse Trap Coleco ~2? CV Super Action Baseball Coleco ~2? CV Subroc Coleco ~2? The find made me happy for a few reasons: -my first ZiMAG cart -probably my third (or so) "wild" find of a 5+ game -nice Colecovision additions -a return to ~$1 pricing! St. Vinnie's still prices VCS carts at $1.50, but the other thrifts and used game shops have driven prices up to ~$3 around here... and for some reason, Cosmic Ark is nearly as common as the omnipresent Combat. -Happy Scientist
  23. The goodies arrived yesterday: BASIC, Qix, and River Raid, all for the Atari 800 line! I've not yet found an 800 in the wild (only a recent 400, which I passed up), but this gives me more incentive to keep looking. In the meantime, they can keep my copy of Astro Grover company. Thanks for the contest! -MS
