Too bad the UAV can’t be custom-ordered in red or black too. 😛
I mean this with ALL of the love in my heart. Truly, I do, but . . . NO! 🙂

@MacRorie any chance you could try the UCA firmware with an NTSC 7800 to see if it works?
(I purchased the UnoCart 2600 from TBA which I believe you have an affiliation with)
It may well be my 7800 but may as well ask.
Sure. I need to dig out my NTSC 7800 (I use a French SECAM model for testing, it has a nice 13 pin din SCART connection, sooo sweet! 🙂
Where is the firmware?

If you want to keep it, send it back and I will re-flash it for free. Only pay the postage.

I think it was an issue with the pullup resistor, but recollections are foggy at best. I still have the ECI and PBI versions of the device here; I wasn't able to get IO to work well using one or the other, but once the button issue was rectified, the 'other' one (can't remember which) worked OK.
The PBI version works perfectly, but the ECI version has the swap button problem. The change in pull-up resistor worked for the PBI version (available here: CLICKY ), but we could never get the ECI version to work. Well, I should say, it works, but once you press the swap button, if you have more than one ATR loaded (which is kind of the point of the swap button, right 🙂 ) they just cycle like a merry-go-round. We tried for a bit and then it go put to the back burner.

Would, of course, like one in the box, but will take what I can get.
Would also be interested in any 3rd party drives/drive cardsThanks!

Jumping in again on the UAV Board. I have it working in black and white on two Atari 800XLs now.
I think the problem is outside the Atari.
Right now, I have a DIN5 cable plugging into the Atari that on the other end converts to left (white), right (red) and composite video (yellow) RCAs. Those three (R, L, CV) are then fed into a cheap-ish conversion module that converts to HDMI.
Do you have stereo sound coming out of the Atari through some other modification? Before you did the UAV mod, did the cable you are using right now give you composite video out of the yellow connector?
How do you have the UAV connected to the DIN5 on the Atari? According to the manual? What pins are the Yellow/White/red connection connected to at the DIN5?

First of all, thank you VERY much for creating this. I just spent an hour playing games I always wanted to play. Also, this justifies the ColecoVision I bought. (I mean, I really bought it to test the 2600-UNO on the CV 2600 Expansion, but NOW I can *really* justify it!)
13 hours ago, mytek said:MacRorie runs a place called The Brewing Academy (TBA) and will be offering DIY Bare Board Kits, which are going to be minimal, so please don't expect this to come with all the components that are required to build complete boards. Kits like that for something this complex simply are not a worthwhile venture, since it can actually take longer to put together a proper kit vs. assembling a complete board.
I believe he will also be selling 3D printed cases for the CV-NUC+, and who knows maybe fully assembled boards as well. We'll just have to wait and see on that last part.
Yes, on all three counts. I just need to assemble it from scratch. MyTek was *very* generous in supplying some of the chips pre-programmed. Now I need to make sure I have all the equipment to properly program them for sale. Stay tuned! It will be available very very soon!
13 hours ago, mytek said:And with all that said, I think this project has turned out incredibly well. and I feel very good to have been a major part of making it happen

It's AWESOME and now I need to stop playing with it and get back to work. The XEP80-II are not going to build themselves!

Thank you @Beeblebrox. I have Chroma soldered to pin 5 of the 5-Pin DIN socket at the top of the 800XL motherboard.
What I'm wonder is whether my 5-pin DIN to 3-out RCA cable of video, right, left cable even picks ups the Chroma?
Also, I tied Chroma and Luma together and that did not add color (per the Brewing Academy manual).
Of course I had color with the "stock" chip using the 5-pin DIN to 3-out RCA cable of video, right, left.
SO, presuming that you have checked continuity from the UAV to the 5 pin DIN port, you should have Composite Video coming off of the same pin of your cable as it was before.
Chroma and Luma should be combined AFTER it leaves the monitor port with the cable (via a 2RCA to 1RCA adapter or something similar) and. even then, only if the monitor does not accept separated inputs).
I would check your continuity and make sure every thing is copasetic. Doublecheck your solder points as well.
Hope this helps

Have you tried pressing the reset button on the FG99 *after* power up, but before pressing a key to get to the TI menu? The steady blinking light tends to indicate that it does not see files.
Also, do the files have the correct extension on them?
Finally, I would suggest getting the slowest/smallest SD card you can get and using that. You don't need the space and the FG99 tends to want slower/smaller SD cards.
Hope this helps.

Awesome! As I've already placed my order, is it possible for me to get the longer cable and replacement panels separately? Also what color did you go with for the replacement plates?
Yes, it's in the drop down menu: https://thebrewingacademy.com/products/sophia-2-dvi-output-gtia-replacement?variant=40049979687014
Black is the default. Of course, any color is possible.
EDIT: I have a set of grey ones that I literally had thrown away. I will put them in your box right now so you can try them out.

BTW here is the link on Thingaverse for the replacement expansion plate with DVI already cut out in the design. In my particular case, I'm going with the DVI output only option and will punch a new hole next to it for a 3.5mm audio output jack. I normally prefer RCAs, but the DVI connector size doesn't leave much space for that unless the DVI is moved over quite a bit more to one side of the design.

Yap. I am including both versions, just so people can play around with it.

Where I go to find out exactly how to use this? Because again with a flash cartridge I can load up the program, but if the output isn't something I can view intially then I assume I need to fallback on something like the RF to navigate the program in order to reconfigure the Sophia once internally installed?
Why would you not be able to view it initially? The Sophia 2 ships compatible with 5200/800/XL/XE.

Okay, was just going by how the order page at TBA is setup where you select what system you are ordering it for. It does state it is for the 5200/XL/XE.
Well, to be clear, I didn't say you needed to do any special programming, but I did say you will need an 8-bit to change the resolution. However, the wording could have been clearer. So, I changed it.
On 2/25/2023 at 7:11 AM, -^CrossBow^- said:@MacRorie does the cable set for the 5200 provided long enough to reach to the expansion plate? Most of the older Sophia installs on 5200s I've seen had the cable running directly center of the console with the DVI jack installed center back. That means the cable and DVI were visible when you opened the controller lid and I just like the look of that at all? So I'm hoping the cable set is long enough to reach the expansion plate section? On that note have you thought about including a 3D printed bracket replacement for the 5200 that has the opening already in place for the DVI? Another thread here in the forums in the 5200 section from a year or so back, someone designed replacement plates for that purpose.
I do not believe that the standard cable will reach to the back of a 5200. I can create a 3x length cable for 5200 if people want it. In fact, if there is a 3D print file for the little door in the back of a 5200, I could modify it and create a set for sale like there is for the 600/800XL.

Indeed. The first batch of orders went out on Saturday. The second batch (those that wanted 2x long cables and PBI covers) should go out tomorrow or Wednesday as I needed to print more covers and the cables are difficult (for me) to make. I only have one 800 version left, so if you want one you should come on down!

(I appreciate it maybe has taken time to price up given the current component prices).
Lots of people have been putting there names down for either single or multiple units without having a cost in mind. Some have been requesting up to 3 or 4 units. I have had no frame of reference for a cost until now, hence why myself and others were asking for ball park figure.
I think it might come as a little bit of a shock if someone has put themselves down for say 3 x units and now realise they are looking at $450 plus shipping. (£370 plus shipping). I am not questioning the cost it takes in terms of components, labour, etc and again the Sophia 2 is a great upgrade. I just wished that a rough indication of a unit price had been posted on this thread sooner for those who have committed to buy.
I can certainly understand this. However, just as a counterpoint, the Sophia 2 have been listed on my website for close to 3 years now @ $115, so the ballpark figure was available. With the component cost increases and inflation, I did have to raise the prices, but I don't think that significantly changed the "size" of the ball park. 🙂

any chance of a base/ball park figure on price yet?

Sophia 2 are now available for sale. $150 plus shipping. Sorry, for the price increase, but costs of components went up, so my costs went up, and, well, life in general increased in price, but they are available for sale and immediate shipment.
Thanks!

@raymondjiii Assuming the audio is done in a proper manner yes. I need to touch base with @MacRorie again to see what the status might be on the new 7800 UAV mount boards which make a lot of this easier for DIY types.
The UAV only handles video so it does require you to add in an extra set of resistors at minimum to install to wire back out to your RCAs for audio..etc. Unless you don't care about RF anymore, in which case you can use the original resistors on the main board just have to desolder them out on one side and then run your wiring for audio from that.
They are sitting on my desk. I just need to make a page for them. Sorry. Been distracted.

Yes, I can do that. I even have the boards already. Just need to put them up on the website. I will price them same as the UAVs. Fully populated. Will sell bare boards as well. Too many parts to count out for a kit, though. I also have the boards for the S-video daughterboard.

THE BREWING ACCADEMY MACRORIE'S TR8 REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGE BLACK READS REAL TIME CLOCK FOR ATARI 800/XL/XE 100% COMPATABLE WITH R-TIME8 SDX
Dan,
I think I answered one of your questions, above. The others I sent via the work email.
Just a reminder to one and all (it’s in my auto-responder as well): I am away from the shop for the next week. I will try and respond as I see messages come into my personal email (such as AtariAge threads I have on “watch”), but I don’t see work emails unless I log in remotely and I try not to do that on vacation.

If this is mine, first, I apologize that the cart came apart. Guess it’s time to add glue and not just press fit. Second, the battery is the “back” and should face away from you.

I actually don't mind the green terminal block. But I do still crimp on male dupont connector pins to the wires, put those into a 5pin housing and then plug them into the green terminal block and tighten down the screws. In fact when Bryan was selling the UAVs originally, I would spent like an extra $1 for him to add just the terminal block and the basic UAV board. Now I just order the DIY kit version of the UAV for the 5200 and 8-bit computers and order the basic board only for 2600 and 7800 installs from TBA.
If y'all don't want the terminal block, I am *MORE* than happy to just put some connectors in there that will allow dupont wires to be used. Just let me know!

I did not realize it was incompatible nor has anyone contacted me about having difficulties. I cannot fix what I do not know about.
Thanks for tagging me, @mytek, I will update the website when I get back from vacation.
@flashjazzcat I apologize for any inconvenience that I caused you. That description is years old. If anything like this happens in the future, please feel free to drop me a direct line. I don’t generally read the forums unless I have it on subscription and/or someone tags me.
