Nice haul. I find it interesting about the Radius monitor too. High end monitors like that sometimes had multi-platform adapters so it would be neat if it worked on the ST.

Maybe its appreciated more now that many think letterman is on it http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/157629-david-letterman-on-an-intellivison-game-box/

Yeah i played but i didn't like the zork games as much as the other infocom games since you had to make more maps than regular games. At least the later one had map maker built in. Loved the detective ones and hitchhiker's guide t.t. galaxy. Still have some of the original props somewhere too!

Evidence that INTV Donkey Kong was intentionally crap

That new one looks awesome. -
I'm not surprised they were not that good since even some of their later software titles didn't seem as memorable as the original batch of infocom games (when they didn't have the generic square boxing).

Weird occurances during Intelli-playing?
thrax replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I had the black robot in Night Stalker stop moving on the right side of the spider web. It literally stayed there indefinitely. This was a good opportunity to rack up points by attacking the weaker regular robots while it was stuck. This happened on the emulator not the actual system so there is a chance it could be an emulator bug. In auto racing, if on the initial leg of the first racecourse in solo mode, if you move your car just parallel to the road you can run off the course and literally scroll across the world and come back! -
What a great game, was also good for more than 1 player "co-op" play since both controllers worked. Another great game that set Intellivision apart. P.S. Uh oh, that was not a target

Many of the Intellivision games were pretty state of the art when they came out. I don't know how they can be mocking it so freely. I wonder if the reviewer had their first introductions to INTV one of those poorly made handhelds which didn't even have the proper sound or background music or all the levels and that is why they hate it so much?

I hated that filthy hummingbird too! That must be a conclusion everyone comes too. Its suppose to be your "ally" but it always got in the way of your shoots and whenever you had a nice honeycomb pattern collecting beehives it ruined the pattern.

I'm talking world wide. Some Soviet states had more clones then originals due to limited business with those 'evil capitalists'. Other regions with very high clone rates were Taiwan and Hong Kong. Its difficult to know the exact number because i don't ever remember seeing any sales figures for all the smaller guys and international markets.
-
Geography, Industry and exchange rate may have played factors. Maybe more clones existed in cities where there was electronic manufacturing. Where i lived in Toronto, Canada it was lots of manufacturing back then. This was before NAFTA even let alone trade with China so there was lots of electronic shops that put together clone apple iis and even clone peripherals. Back then teh US dollar was way more valuable than the par value we have today so there was even more incentive to get clones back then. Also in the early apple ii days there was no significant apple educational discounts that the later apple ii days and early mac days had.

Some Intellivision games have known endings. Games like Utopia and Snafu have turns that run out. Sports games finish when the innings/periods/laps/etc. run out. Other games have a goal to complete such as Star Strike, AD&D, Treasure of Tarmin. You make the goal, get the win screen or you die. What about games that just keep going. Are there any endings? Do any games have a mathematical limit? I'm talking games that go on and on like Space Armada, Astrosmash, Night Stalker, Deadly Disks, Shark Shark, Lock N Chase, Donkey Kong, etc. Do they stop at a particular number due to a limitations by design or other limitation?

Mac's Rhapsody was continuation of NeXT OS. There's a chart here: http://www.rhapsodyos.org/home.html

Remember when store return policies were laxed?
thrax replied to ddaniels's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
By the mid 80s most stores where i lived didn't allow returns on "software" type media. The few stores that did only allowed an exchange of the exact product in the case that your box had a defective disk. -
I'm Canadian and many of my carts came in duo language boxes back in the day. IIRC my intellivision box was duo language too.

Looks awesome, congratulations.

I've always wanted to see a new version of night stalker where you scroll off the screen instead of being in the standard maze. Kinda like maze-a-tron but with the robots coming after you. If by totally modern, then maybe a 3D first person shooter with a night stalker theme but I'd be satisfied with a 2d sequel.

I had not heard of it until i discovered emulation. I kind of like it as it sorta reminded me of Frontline. Maybe it wasn't underrated as OP states but rather not discovered. Had this been an early intellivision release i think it would of been more popular.

Don't cry too hard whenever you feel you lost a good opportunity on CL. Whenever something seems like a good deal the guy wants to get rid of it fast which OFTEN means first come first serve even if the guy agreed to you buying through phone or email. When they want it to go fast you might show up at their house and it could be gone and you end up losing gas money. I never go try to get something too good to be true unless the address is really close by so it won't be out of my way.

those are nice library set ups. If a fire breaks out all you have to do is tilt the wooden units and smash your way through to safety! PS. Make sure the sun doesn't directly hit your displays to cut fading on the packaging.

Correct there were a few Laser models with various feature. Also there was also the IIc plus which had 800k drive and faster speed you can look out for too.

Despite the political limitations of the GS with its hardware, i would hardly call it a failure. Still had great sales and great software support from the major manufacturers and profitable sales for a while for Apple upcoming? Mac was out before iigs and amiga. It did give amiga and st a run for its money. The II line (not just GS) lasted longer than Commodore's and Atari's exit from the computer market. Apple even made emulator cards for the LC line of macs well after the fact too. Seems kinda flawed logic to call a machine a failure when the computer line you are comparing too, "re: amiga-ised", disappeared first and came out after apple's own Mac.

Well, not really. With 6 colors, no sprites, mere beeps and chirps for sound - they were hardly more or less the same as C= or Atari. Yes really. Apple had 6 colours when commodore and atari had ZERO colours. Apple was out way before the other 2 were. Later apple graphics modes were like 560x192 @ 16 colours and that is just the regular II line not hte GS' modes. I thought the slow load times of commodore were it came out were a real negative to game playing. That may indeed be your experience, but the Apple IIe was $1400 (in 1983 dollars) just for the keyboard/computer. Add storage and monitor and it was well over $2000. That would be about $4300 in today's dollars. You must have hung out with rich families who didn't mind letting go of their dollars, or who weren't afraid to go into debt. I started out wanting Apple II, and like many people, knew a few families that had them. NONE of them had more than one, for obvious financial reasons. I should think this experience is more the norm than yours, where each family member gets his own multi-thousand-dollar setup. I agree with you that many users only had 1 computer instead of 2 at the time but the prices you are quoting were for genuine apple products. At least half if not more of II users had clones. Clones not only were significantly cheaper but offered more built in features. And even if you had a genuine apple you can still get cheap cards for your slots.
