  1. I loved how the game Dark Castle had a christmas tree in the castle when your computer's clock was set to dec 25 on the mac version.
  2. Given we live in an age of scams unless i knew the person i would always be suspicious that it could of been re-wrapped. Also just because something is still in its original shrink wrap doesn't mean it won't be damaged. I saw some Atari games at a thrift store one time in their original shrink wrap that looked like they were driven over. Another possibility is that box was exposed to the sun it could still be faded despite wrapped. In other words can still be far from perfect so buyer beware!!!!
  3. I wouldn't of been surprised in a broad ad to have people with no computer knowledge to reply to your ad. Plenty of people buy and sell things without any knowledge of said products. For example sometimes relatives sell things off on behalf of other relatives who cannot (i.e. elderly, passed away etc.). Also i would expect that people requested items would get replies that are much higher than the product is worth, afterall you are requesting it impling you want it. I have used CL for years and find just like in regular life you will get the broad spectrum from uneducated to PHDs.
  4. In the very early 80s i believe i got most items (system plus many cartridges) from department stores. Since I am in Canada most was from the Bay (like a Macy's for you Americans). I have a similar story, I recently caught up with a childhood friend whom i haven't seen since the mid 1980s and it was funny because we mentioned how we use to always play intellivision.
  5. If you lose your job and you have to downsize your apartments or move to another state/country then you may have to sell some of your collection to make space.
  6. Finish 2,3 and 4. Seemed to lose interest afterwards for a short time. Still have my original boxes with cloth maps though. I always thought games like that with something included in the box to complement the game made a difference in those days.
  7. i would like to add to the Craigslist comment. You may have to regularly check craigslist to find the rarer stuff but it can happen. In other words don't just check once, not see a colecovision and write CL off. It takes time but if it is a big enough city it can come up.
  8. the 1040 ste your going to get in the mean time is a good choice from a compatibility point of view. It will run the software for 1040s and earlier models plus you can use the odd software that utilized its extra colour capacity. The last most atari models had compatibility issues and the early half meg models won't run a big chunk of the software which uses 1 meg memory.
  9. One less ST a collector could of appreciated. They don't make them anymore so everyone destroyed is one more gone forever.
  10. I've played infocom games on WinXP through emulation of a vintage system. In my case an apple ii version. I have many of the original games from my apple ii days. Since they are text only playing them on any platform is good.
  11. I had a Mac during the ST days and one of the things i like doing with my ST now is seeing what the equivalent game for the ST looked like. In many cases seeing a game i liked in color like Dark Castle was a real novelity to me I was just curious if the sequel "Beyond Dark Castle" was made for the ST. The ST games databases i looked up at the time I got the ST didn't list it.
  12. Any port made by Coleco specifically for Intellivision (a rival). As recently mentioned on other threads teh coleco ports were missing levels and features and were not making use of Intellivisions capabilities nor did they even include overlays.
  13. I don't remember Hot dog but i certainly remember the "Mecc" binder of software. I remember Oregon Trail being equally as popular as lemonade stand particularly the part when we got to "shoot" wild game. It was the most "video gamey" of the programs available.
  14. Me too. I was a big fan of Venture and when i heard there was an intellivision version i kept calling my local stores for months to see if they had it. It was probalby the only game i wanted to buy that i couldn't get from availability. When i got my first intellivision emulator it was one of the first roms i wanted to get just to satisfy that decades old curiousity.
  15. That was a very early program for the II, i'm talking late 70s. That program was considered vintage before the II actually died out in the very early nineties! That program was required learning for my class in the late 70s. In those days the whole elementary school only had 1 computer!
  16. That does seem like a dumb move since for example many Imagic (one of the most popular 3rd parties for intellivision) had HIGHLY innovative games of which many were exclusive to the Intellivision. To block out 3rd party games was foolish. The only reason i can see them targetting Coleco is that Coleco's intellivision version of games were stripped of levels ,features and were not even close to using the Intellivision's potential.
  17. There were mac and Amiga emulators for the NeXT. I recall from Next forums that the mac emulator worked at par speed since it used the same chips. Sadly I don't recall an ST emulator but as you were pointing out by using the same chips you could get pretty good speeds. NOTE: While its true the NeXT might be cheaper than the falcon that won't be the case for a later model cube with a Dimension board. Many NeXT collectors would give a whole next system for that video card alone in the rare cases it is available. Also sometimes Next systems seem cheap on ebay because they will be just the box (particularly the nextstation boxes) which won't run without the special cables to the required sound box. I mention this incase are thinking of buying.
  18. Re: Gemstone Warrior I had both the games (Warrior and Healer) for the apple II and my Gemstone Warrior was defective. I kept exchanging it with the store multiple times before I got a working copy. No other software i bought at the time did i have to exchange that many times. I wouldn't use that one game which had software problems on multiple platforms as a the sole reason not to persue it. PS the game itself was good when it finally worked but the sequel wasn't worth it.
  19. I like CL for vintage computer items best. Thrift store's vintage systems are incomplete and untested and ebay costs to much to ship those heavy systems. THe only downside i have personally is that it is not that often the system you want will appear. I also recommend to people using CL to make sure they are getting exactly what they want. Ask tons of questions over phone/email to make sure and use their answers given to you (and attitude) to judge whether the deal/person seems fishy.
  20. I think a better description is "stripped" as opposed to being worst. I bought that game when i was a kid and remember talking with my friends saying that they (Coleco) probably made it worse to make their CV version look that much more stunning. I thought at the time the Atari version was horrible too. I say stripped because they could of easily had another level instead of the two. There was also no background music and cut scenes as well. On the plus side i always like the "flow" that hte mario character had. It seemed easier to time the running and jumping compared to other systems i played. One of the things i didn't like about the Coleco games for Intellivision in general was that their boxes were more simplistic. THey squished easer because they didn't have the extra layer for folding out. They also didn't include overlays which all Intellivision games had even if they didn't really need it.
  21. I personally would never go a significant distance to get something off Craigslist. This way if the deal goes wrong you haven't lost as much time, money and especially Gas. The other reason is sometimes in the time you are going there they (seller) might get a significantly better bid and may not honor your deal. The latter has never happened to me but i'm sure it does happen. The people i've bought stuff from have been pretty good. Many offer to help carry things to my car and some of them have the system running so that they prove to me that it is working. I also try to judge their personality based on their email writtings and phone calls before i agree. Sometimes an email response doesn't sound right so i don't persue it.
  22. Former Canadian Formula One race car driver Jacques Villeneuve played video games a lot.
  23. One time a guy gave on craigslist a pile of Mac equipment free (first come first serve). I needed some of the peripherals. I only attempted to get their first since it was relatively close to where i lived. SUre enough i was first. As I was leaving I saw somebody else approach the home. Recently somebody else did something similar for amiga equipment. I don't have anything commodore in my collection but this person was at the other end of the city. I didn't attempt to get it since i figured by the time i got there "I" would be the "other guy".
  24. I liked the Black & white version of Dark Castle and Sim City for the Mac Plus VS. the color versions of other systems (Atari, Amiga, IIGS). I prefered the higher resolutions to the color for these two games. I also thought the movement was smoother for Dark Castle on the mac than the others. I also would take the Apple II version of Aztec any time anywhere.
