  1. I curently have dissasembled most of the 2k and 4k roms i found on the site ect... however distella cant (without some jiggery-pokery) handle the larger files. As it would be a huge pain in the rear and i figure someone would have probably done this already, could I humbly ask for any 5k+ rom dissambleys you might have games/protos (any comments would also help) I know that the mini dig site is there and i have been reading through the source with intrest. however im somewhat of a completeist and I would like to have as many dissasembled sources as possible to study. Thank you in advance Dan.
  2. ah right, that dosent bode well ah well its all part of the fun i supose nothing forces you to learn faster than a crummy bit of kit. i would like to get one of the nice programers that was linked, it does look the busness - now i know what to ask for my birthday.
  3. I have spent the last 3 days reading up on the 2600 system and how its coded. I have done z80 assembly about 10 years ago however my understanding is quite rusty and to be fair alot of the spesifics i did rember dont aply (WHAT NO INTERUPTS!) haha. however the principles are the same so hopefully it will not be like starting from scratch again. Well they say the journey of a 1000 miles starts with but a single step and i feel i have taken such a step today! Spent the day reading through the files on the newbie 2600 programmers forum, also having a look at the commented files from the mini dig site. At first it was a bit daunting but when i pulled myself togeather with "come on its just assembly..." the panic subsided and was replaced with a fasination, the TIA gives you so much scope to mess with the user, once i learn more about the control of the playfield there will be some flashing demos the like of which even the japanese fit enduceing games of the early 80s could not match hahaha... only kidding. found a few other gems over at atariarchive, theres a nice presentation "Atari 2600: Stella Console Hardware & Combat Sample Game Software" that was realy usefull as i used the dissassembler and had a peak at combat, and bizarely the fog started to clear (alough i hasten to add i dont understand it completely). Currently im dissembling all the roms i can find under 4k, hopefully by studying a number of simple roms (the 2k fellas) i can pick up a few tricks. concreat progress was acheved today as i manged to get my first (copied demo) to load haha i was so happy i called my wife and she to was amazed i manged to get it first time without error lol. (admiditly copying a example into a editor isnt rocket science ) anyway onwards and upwards, after the mindfield that was PAL/NTSC calculations it can only get better oh wait no theres still SECAM and that random brazilian standard. Hmmmmm i wonder how you code them..... next on the todo list it to finish off the tutorials, read the opp code manual and work through properly somthing like combat (but i might do tic tac toe instead...)
  4. Daatasheets are here: http://www.6502.org/documents/datasheets/ The 6507's differences are covered under this one, among others, though this one isn't as complete as some others: http://www.6502.org/documents/datasheets/m...pu_nov_1985.pdf As for "undocumented" opcodes, they are not intentional. They are the result of product term minimization which results in unintended operations taking place in "don't care" logic states. The fact that some of them are useful is a coincidence. Thanks!
  5. Do either of these exist or did everyone just use the 6502 sheet and rember the limitations? I have been looking everywhere for the 6507, or a orignaly undocumented opcode list (like what they relased for the 486 processors) for it that would be great.
  6. So assuming that you dont have the money to purchace the rights to the game (i rember during the late 90s early 00s in the uk amstrad purchaced the rights to loads of clasic games from the 80s in the uk for pennies). If you were to reverse enginer the game would it need to be a series of people to do this, For example you get some tech student to do the orignal product spesification based on him actualy playing the orignal game, You then take that tech spec and design the game based on the tech spec from the student without useing the orignal as a refrence for stuff like dissasemblies ect. Assuming that the graphics or text did not infringe on a trademark (like the atari logo) or a character. would this be ok. On the other hand whats the going rate for the rights to a 2600 game, for the big ones like breakout ect i can imagine it costing a fair wack, but for the less well known games that were not linked to a TV/well know character wouldnt it be similar to the situation with amstrad and the spectrum games from the 80s - you could purchace the rights for next to nothing - then your have many more options?
  7. I was just planning on useing a NTSC adaptor but i didnt realise that it required a spesific conector conversion as well.
  8. Thats whats makeing me hesitate getting the thing, if the manual is junk then its going to be hard to do anything productive, its supsosed to be a clone of the Willem programmer i wonder if useing the manual for a Willem programmer might help....
  9. what about these ones? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dual-Powered-Willem-...1QQcmdZViewItem they seem to cover all the chips used... has anyone tried these before?
  10. Hi im looking for a system that i can use for testing in the uk it needs to be NTSC (i cant be bothered to code the games in pal as most of the examples are all in NTSC format anyway). Anyone have a idea what the average shipping cost for one of these fellas is - also is there a new repo version of the atari 2600 avalible (the orignal units are rather old and im sceptical if they will last that long with frequent use).
  11. I too would be in a pickel with that one, lol trying to find NTSC stuff for the amiga is a nightmare in the UK without the option of overseas vendors. same with the development boards ect... I had situations where packages i was expecting from england arived 4 days later than ones from japan/china!
