    So I left PC gaming in the mid 90's because it was 'too big of a pain in the rear' but today I hooked the netbook up to the projector--and it's console games that turned into the PITA now. No crippling OS or game patching before I start--just install and go. Maybe I should get an 'HTPC' for my setup and leave consoles alone for a bit.

      I'm in the same boat - I quit playing PC games around the time 3d cards became standard. Came back recently - between Steam & GOG.com, there's just more I want to play on PC than console. And cheaper!

      yep, 3d cards were what did it for me. They were alphabet soup and were hard to compare. They still are, but they just don't matter as much as long as you have one. I mean, I'm having fun on a gaming netbook.
