Atari 2600 or the Coleco Gemini?
Underball replied to thevideogamecollector's topic in Classic Console Discussion
my 11 year old self in 1983 would have told you were bananas for this post. The Gemini looks like a Video Game system. It looked like new technology. Talk about ugly - the VCS looks like a black plastic toilet. The fake wood makes it look like something your parents would put in their ugly 70's dining room with the bad paneling job and the ugly shag rug. terrible. I specifically made sure I asked for the Coleco Gemini, a knock off, for Christmas because of the pack-ins. Donkey Kong and Mousetrap were WAAAAAAY better than Combat and the awful 2600 Pac-Man everybody hated. and I loved it. -
I'm amazed that a thread about angry birds anywhere on the internet has gone on this long without someone making a joyless "I liked angry birds better 10 years ago when it was *insert name of obscure java based brick breaker type game*!" Lol

If your interest in these games is purely to play them, and not so much on the collecting side, by all means - get yourself a harmony cart. For $60 + a dirt chep SD card, you can have every game ever made for the 2600, on real hardware.

Duh. Put it in Choad Mode.

My questions for you SEGA MASTER SYSTEM fans!
Underball replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Spy vs. Spy, Ghostbusters, Impossible Mission(Euro only) all excellent ports. And since you have the 3-D glasses, you HAVE TO get Maze Hunter 3-D! Also, there are other, better alternatives to the original glasses if you find them to be uncomfortable. Specifically search for Asus VR-100G glasses. They work with the SMS perfectly (dare I say better than the originals) have much larger viewing windows and no reflective dark outer layer. They're also adult sized so they don't squeeze your head. -
Not to be a stick in the mud, but in nearly every case I've seen in here, Longhorns mod is plagued with problems. Why not save yourselves the time and aggravation and jus do the "easier composite mod" from these forums? It's >$5 worth of parts and takes about 10-15 minutes to assemble and install, and the picture quality is stellar. Easily as good if not better than Longhorns.

If you discover that your 7800 doesn't work with the Supercharger, you can very easily mod the 7800 so that it will work with it.

No, it sounds different because it clearly, um, sounds different. The funny thing is when I noticed it, I came to this forum with the intention of starting a new thread to say "Hey did anyone else notice the musical pitch difference between a real Pitfall II cart and a Harmony?" but well, this thread was already here! Lol. Batari, the oscillator being slow or inconsistent in the real cart makes perfect sense. My post was in no way intended as a complaint, but rather just an observation. Also, this gives me a reason to buy another Real PII cart to conduct further tests in the name of, er, Science! Yeah, that's the ticket.

In real life, they do sound different. I have both the real Pitfall II cart and a Harmony, and several systems to test on. In every side by side example, the Harmony plays the music about 1/2 step higher than the real cart.

Which is the toughest of The Big Three?
Underball replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Paul Pierce. Oh, wait you were talking about another Big 3? -
It's a decent deal, but not really great. I just got another 7800 on Ebay about a month ago, with PW supply, two prolines, 4 games (PPII, Centipede Joust, Galaga) that was in great condition, still and the plastic peel off strip on the aluminum bezel, for $35. I've had 3-4 of them over the last 6-7 years from ebay, and never paid more than $40. Still, a decent deal though.

I'm not even saying that the "PM Sent" is necessarily any obligation to buy. Especially if the seller doesn't list a specific price wanted. I'm just saying that it just gives everyone else a clear idea that there is already interest in an item, so there should be no surprises when it's no longer available. And I want to thank everyone who has participated so far in this thread constructively. Let's try to keep it civil at least a bit longer.
-
It's not a matter of "dibs". It's just common courtesy. Expecting people to be reasonable adults. It's just like I said - seller posts an item at a fixed price. The thread stays on the forum for a few days with no replies from anyone. I responded to the thread saying "PM sent" and PM the seller saying I'll agree to buy it at the price offered, and I get a reply 8 hours later stating that the item has already sold, even though the thread doesn't reflect as much from the seller or any other buyers making offers. This is a bad system. I'm not upset with the seller - like I said they can't be expected to stay on Atariage 24 hours a day, but just irked with the process. and I'm sorry but the whole idea of "Crapping up a thread" is ludicrous. It's a message board. You're supposed to post messsages that are relevant to the thread title. That's the whole point of posting on one of these boards. To exchange information. Encouraging people not to post makes no damn sense. But it's pretty much the same on every video gaming board. If you post more than once before someone else does, it's a huge faux pas. Why? Who fucking knows. If you search for a subject and by doing so ressurrect an old thread, people get pissed. If you don't search and just start a new thread, people get pissed. If you disagree with someone or the subject matter of a thread, it's "trolling", even if you're speaking rationally and calmly. Whatever.
-
Yeah, I guess there's always that. I just figured most users here aren't nearly as unreasonable as other forums I've been to. It's just - it takes two seconds to make a post saying "PM sent". We can't expect the sellers to monitor their sale threads 24/7 and update as sales or offers come in, so it should be on the buyers to do so. I kind of think of buying things from this forum as being the same as a "Buy it Now" on eBay.
-
How does everyone feel about making a requirement for users making offers to HAVE TO make at least a "PM sent" post in the thread, so that other users know a sale is pending? There's nothing more annoying than properly following this standard protocol, only to find out from the seller a few hours later that someone else scooped an item that appeared to be still available when you made an offer.

I would guess it's not the cart that is overheating, but your 7800. probably the heat sink that is attached to the voltage regulator (big black metal thing behind the cart port) is partially detatched from the motherboard and isn't venting heat properly.

Gameinformer gives Atari 7800 title Launch lineup a "F"

I just read this whole thread again. I'm still trying to find the part where anyone here got "upset". -
New Video: Atari 7800 Console Review + Gameplay
Underball replied to Metal Jesus's topic in Atari 7800
Why would you even bother with MESS for the 7800? Just use Prosystem. it's the most updated and accurate 7800 emulator there is. -
The 7800 Europads are as bad as, if not worse than the Prolines. They have too much travel for a silicone button gamepad, especially the buttons. and the d-pad is terribly designed and has a tendency to get stuck in on direction because the pad gets wedged under the casing. give me the prolines any day.

People love to crack on the 7800, and in the same breath fawn over the NES. People are stupid. -
What are the differences between Scramble and Super Cobra, and can there be a Super Cobra version too? Just plain astounding, Bob as always.

Atari 7800 questions to people who know the system well...
Underball replied to Robert Carrion's topic in Atari 7800
The Harmony Cart works great with the 7800. In fact, all the finicky 2600 carts I have the have the same problems you're describing work perfect from the Harmony.
