  1. Pole Position, the whole series, the 2600 version and the 7800 version, why were these games designed to be controlled with the joystick and not the paddles? doesnt the paddle make more sense?
  2. the thing is that it was so odd, I had the firmware version downgraded, then upgraded over a week before the UMD failure. and during that time, i did use the UMD game several times. Kevin
  3. Danno- YOU ARE THE MAN!!! that worked 1st try. Kevin
  4. I took a look, I didnt have any luck on that site. I found a thread talking about drive errors, and that there seemed to be a lot of units that have UMD drive failures, but not much help in how to fix them. plus they mentioned the psp giving an error message, I unfortunatly dont get an error message, the OS just behaves as if the UMD is empty. But I can hear that drive spin up, slow down, spin up, slow down...over and over and over. Kevin
  5. thanks Danno, that would be great help, I will go do a search on that site too during lunch. Kevin
  6. The UMD is Burnout Legends, its the only UMD i own. I bought the unit used, I have no plans on having sony fix it, I am thinking of that old school gamer place, I did some looking after i posted and I see they do fix psp's. so thats where it will go if i do get it fixed. Figures, I dont bring the psp to work with me today, I could have stopped by game stop on the way home and tested one out right there in the store. I will stop by and find out if i can purchase one, then if it doesnt work, return it on monday, they have that 7 day return policy for used games. I did the hard re-boot a few times. there have been times where i even did the hard shut down, and then took out the battery too taking all power away from the unit. One thing i have noticed with this too is that when I re-boot the unit from a hard boot, I no longer get that black screen and launch tone, I boot the unit and it stays black no sound, and then I get the default background for a second, and then the loaded background I put in and then the menu items. I thought it was a bit odd that the boot screen and tone are gone. course it could be a result of the unit not getting any response from the UMD drive that is resulting in the skipping of the boot screen and tone. All I know is that I am happy with the unit. I figured out how to browse HTML files that are stored on the mem stick, thats great news for me as I hope to build files that hold all my contact info and more and store them on the unit. its my plan of replacing the Apple Newton since i am finding out that i only use the newton for reference, I really dont do any data entry in it out in the field. I even tried out that windows vista psp that is out there. I find it a bit useless though. I found a boot file for Mac OS 7.5.5, all I need is the rom files, and I even have those too, I just gotta figure out how to get that going, imagine having a portable OS 7.5.5 machine, that would be pretty cool and usefull, more usefull than the psp vista I found. this would be a full blown mac machine, older mac, but still full featured. I do have another issue, with the mem card, but its for another thread. Kevin
  7. Yey! I was the one that got it! thats a lot of $ for a game. my car was only $1500
  8. I have had my PSP for about 2 weeks now. I have only one UMD game for it and it has been operating properly for the whole time until just the other day. for no reason, I put the UMD in and i can hear the unit spin up, slow down a bit, spin up again, and keep repeating this and the OS has no mention of the UMD in the drive. I had 2.8 running, I downgraded to 1.5, and then up to 3.4oe and the UMD was operating fine after that process. this drive failure seems to be independent of the downgrading and upgrading. I have been playing games on the unit with no issues that run off the mem card. Is the drive failure of the UMD a common thing? is it something I can fix on my own or should I send it off to old school gamer? do they even work on the psp? thanks Kevin
  9. I have downgraded my psp. The package that 128bytes reffered to was much easier than yours Danno. it had the Hend part intergrated into it. I did have issues with it running, but it did eventally go just as the instructions said. on a side note, the readme file in the downgrader file you provided Danno, they were not in english so they were a bit difficult for me to follow. since the downgrade, I upgraded to 3.40oe that you provided Danno. its working well I have a 2600 emulator running as well as a 7800 emulator running. with roms. all works well. I have tried the MAME emulator, it runs, but cant seem to find the roms i have, I read the instructions and put the roms where i was instructed, but it still fails finding them. oh well, will poke and play more latter. Thank you for the help Danno Atari5200 128bytes Sorry to be a pain the ass Kevin
  10. I know Danno has tried to help. I apriciate his help too, I have. I went to your link. I downloaded the file. I read the readme several times. It does read this to be an easy process. I have followed the steps word for word. I am stuck on setp 3. I have attempted step 3 over and over. I get the same result. freeze and then the psp shuts down forcing a power on, One issue i had with the readme from the file Danno pointed to me was that it wasnt in english and I was unable to read it. this readme, is in english. All I know, is that I have overstayed my welcome on this and thats it. Done.
  11. Danno- I have read this tutorial. the section that starts wih "2.80 Downgrading Tutorial Using Easy Downgrader: Requirements: ·A PSP with FW 2.80 installed. ·2.80 Easy Downgrader: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/974 " Is what I followed. The HenD is not mentioned in that section. The HenD IS mentioned in the section that starts with " 2.71 TA-082 HEN-D Downgrading Tutorial Requirements: ·A TA-082 PSP with firmware 2.71 installed. To find out if you have a TA-082 PSP look at this:" but according to the info in your post and looking at my unit, I do NOT have a TA-082. nor am I running firmware 2.71 I have a TA-081. Here is my last question, and after this I will not ask anymore. If I follow the steps word for word for the HEND section starting with "2.71 TA-082 HEN-D Downgrading Tutorial" on my TA-081 will it brick my unit? if not, then I will do just that and never ask for help again, if i follow the steps and it bricks my unit, then you wont hear anything from me agian either...either way. you wont hear from me again. so, can I follow the steps for "2.71 TA-082 HEN-D Downgrading Tutorial" on my TA-081? Kevin
  12. Kondre's problems are not as common as you are posting. I, and many others on this board, had no problems downgrading or upgrading. If I gave up every time I installed software on PC's, Macs, Linux boxes, AS/400's, Cuttle Carts, PalmPilots, Geos devices, Apple II's, etc., I wouldn't have ever done much computing! 128bytes- So are the proceedure steps i am taking correct? Is there some odd issue with my unit that is making it different? According to the image that Danno posted, I have the Ta-081, but it doesnt seem to be behaving like a Ta-081. I guess What I need is a step by step proceedure. but for somereason none exist, If its so easy to do, i can see why, but if its that easy i dont understand why i am having issues. Kevin
  13. This thought has crossed my mind. Like i said a while ago, I am keeping an eye out for a GP2x for a decent price. I have questions regarding that unit and its linux base. But I dont think i should post them in this thread. Kevin
  14. i dont think i have this right still. This is what I have on the PSP: I just did a format. MP_ROOT MUSIC PICTURE PSP VIDEO MEMSTICK.IND on the computer I have the HEND folder and in it is: cambios.txt changelog.txt checkworks dechook MS_ROOT Under MS_ROOT i have: PSP pspbtknf.txt h.bin patch.bin pspbtknf_game.txt pspbtknf_updater.txt systemctrl.prx Under the MS_ROOT\PSP folder I have: Photo Under the MS_ROOT\PSP\PHOTO folder I have: HEND Under the MS_ROOT\PSP\PHOTO\HEND folder I have: loadbinary.tif rand.jpg So, I copied the HEND folder into psp's\PICTURE\ I then copied pspbtknf.txt, h.bin, patch.bin, pspbtknf_game.txt, pspbtknf_updater.txt, systemctrl.prx from the computer's MS_ROOT directory into the psp's top root directory, the one that contains MP_ROOT, PSP, MUSIC, etc. I then ran the 2.8-1.5 downgrader file and it copied the files over to the psp I then turned off the USB connection. I then turned off the psp and then back on, not a hard reset, just an off and on. Under Photo menu I have HEND and it says it contains 2 images. so i hit X It brought up the image list, rand.jpg was the first image listed. the psp automatically did the following: screen went black screen went blue memory card was accessed screen stays blue psp is unresponsive to get the psp back, I need to remove the battery, and remove the ac jack so the unit powers off. I can not power off with the power switch. I can bring the psp back after by providing power and powering on with the power switch. the psp's OS version is still 2.80 What did i do wrong? thanks
  15. ok, I messed that up, I dont want dh folder, thats that dev hooks that you said i dont want. I did find a folder called HEN-D under the MS_ROOT\PSP\PHOTO folder. I see no instructions in these folders. Kevin
  16. Danno- Thank you very much so far with all your help.. I extracted the hend.rar file. in there there are 3 folders...checkworks, MS_ROOT, and devhook there are some text files, but in those, i dont really see any instructions. the only instructions i found were in the devhoock folder in the readme.txt file. it stated to copy the "dh" folder in my root. through a USB connection my psp is the F:\ drive. So according to the instructions, and they are so simple I am getting confused. i should copy the "dh" folder to F:\ or should I copy it to F:\MP_ROOT? OR should I be coppying other folders over to the psp's mem card? I have tried both. then through the psp, I can not find anything to open under any of the menu items. I dont understand why i am having such a difficult time withthis. I didnt think i was this mentally challenged. thanks Kevin
  17. Danno- thanks. i will read them, probably 3x Kevin
  18. If I were you - I would get at least a 1 gb card, otherwise you won't be able to run much anyways. Perferably a 2 gb. I have a 4gb card coming, just need to wait for it. so is your response affirming that I have found the right devhook file and that i need both on the mem card? thanks Kevin
  19. I found "DevHook v0.51.0100 Package for 1.50-2.71 SE" Can I use that one? I am not sure since I am on 2.8 not 2.71 I also only have a 32 meg card, the "DevHook v0.51.0100 Package for 1.50-2.71 SE" file is over 20 megs, and the downgrader is over 20 megs as well. if "DevHook v0.51.0100 Package for 1.50-2.71 SE" is the right one, can I get that over to the mem card, run it and then wipe out the mem card to install the downgrader? if i need both at once, I will have to wait until my larger mem card arrives. thaks Kevin
  20. Danno- ok...i see that in your post. i didnt get that because according to the PSP hacks site, that was only used for Ta-082 anyhow, I didnt find HEN-d in the zip package from the 2.80_-_EASY_Downgrader_0.1.zip file. i did a search for HEN-d on the hacks site, there is so much for a result. which one and where is the one i need? thanks Kevin
  21. I downloaded and installed the 2.80 - 1.50.exe file. i followed the steps for downgrading from 2.8 to 1.5. The installer appears to have put all the files on the psp. I restarted the psp and found the 1.50DDforTA-079-081FW2.80PSP file in the memory stick under game. I launched it as instructed. it launches but comes back with this message "The game could not be started.(80020148)" What does that mean? I have the battery fully charged and it is on ac power. I do have psp system 2.8 and i believe I have followed the steps properly. I have gone through the entire process twice with the same results. Any advice? Thanks Kevin
  22. well, i am going to have to wait till monday, as I have a mac. no windowz here so i guess i just putt around for the weekend. thanks for the help so far though guys. Kevin
  23. ok, wait, I have text on the left side....according to you pic that means its a Ta-081
  24. I cant make out the text on the MB, that silver metal plate is in the way
  25. Thanks for the link, I will spend some time there i am sure. So, I am hoping to replace my newton with this psp. sounds odd, but i am thinking it might work. especially with the web based apps that are out there now. I still havent been given an answer as to can you get the psp's web browser to open html files stored on a mem stick, if i can then i am pretty golden. size wise, here is a sid by side comparason... Goin from a 6" diag screen to a 4.25" thats not too bad. plus given all the new benis from the psp's media alilities, I think i might be a happy camper. I saw a video of some guy using a keyboard with his psp. i gotta learn that. I used to use the keyboard with the newt, but once all the info was entered in, i found no use for it. I am going to sill look for a GP2x....I have other interests for that machine...but thats for another thread. Kevin
