  1. One frustrating hour tonight... 23350 on Pac-Man Arcade and 25300 on Pac-Man '82. I'd be a lot better at Pac-Man if I could just figure out how to not suck! Seriously, I never 'got' this game in terms of patterns, different ghost 'personalities', etc.. still like to play, though. For shits and giggles, I tried starting on the key level. Managed to clear the first screen but got a measly 9190 points, more than half of that was from eating a key for 5K. Yikes.
  2. Slight improvement at Pac-Man Arcade... 21500. It's weird jumping back and forth between the two games, really accentuates the differences. I doubt I'll be very competitive at either version, so I'm spending more time on the one I prefer. (Great job, tep392!)
  3. Alright! Just a few quick rounds to get me started on the boards: Pac-Man '82: 21050 and Pac-Man Arcade '12: 14050 I'm playing NTSC-style this round. Actual cartridges for both games on my XEGS in the living room on the big screen.
  4. Well, Glenn is the hero here. I hope that's not true! I was simply pointing out that the conversions are out there for the 8-bits. Other than Adventure II and Tempest, I don't think there are any titles that are truly 5200-exclusive anymore. That said, the 5200 is a fine machine, I enjoy mine. The few games that take advantage of the multi-button analog controllers are a joy and do offer a unique gaming experience. But for someone who is already happy with an A8, especially the most console-like XEGS, a 5200 would be largely redundant.
  5. I thought it was freaking awesome... already MP3'd it so I can put it in heavy rotation on my iPod. Nothing wrong with a little lo-fi love for our favorite console. Bonus point for the Pressure Cooker (my fave game) music in the outro!
  6. Getting better! 21550. First screen 5400, first man 10350. This game definitely keeps you coming back.
  7. Well, at least not without a disk drive or SIO2PC. And the dual CX40 holder from Robotron helps. 8-bit Space Dungeon
  8. One could make a pretty good argument that Journey's entire catalog is a pretty good collection of the Worst Sound Effects of the 80s. Totally beat me to the punch with that... the sounds of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong are so evocative of the era. I've heard them used in countless shows and commercials, even as soundtracks to other games or consoles. Can't remember the show (it was fairly recent) in which some kid's GameBoy was making the walking and jumping sounds from DK.
  9. Yep... Genesis gamepad will work on anything that uses a standard Atari 2600 stick, including the XEGS.
  10. I went with Astro Droid simply because it's the only one I've never played before. It's fun to discover new things... I had never played JBJ before Round 1, and I love it.
  11. Seems like it would be perfect with the 2600 Driving Controller. Or the CX-80 TrakBall. Either way, I did buy the 5200 version... can't wait!
  12. Yes, and one has Tempest. Best reason I can think of for getting a 5200. Otherwise, I completely agree with Ransom and jaybird3rd.
  13. Baby steps... made 16200 tonight, 5200 at the end of first screen with first Jack. First time I've seen the 4th screen!
  14. Pressure Cooker. Colorful, detailed graphics and fast action with a memory puzzle twist. Love it, always have. Wish there was an A8/5200 port. Close seconds (that probably see more playtime lately) are Berzerk and Dark Cavern. Man Goes Down for favorite modern game/homebrew.
  15. Wow, that is a challenge to get the hang of. I had never played this little gem of a game before. It took me several tries just to get past the first screen, so I'll post this score. I may not do any better! 7775. I'm tied with bluecat - though I didn't use practice mode! PS I'm in the US but my machine has a PAL ANTIC. I don't get the one-point bonus.
  16. I still regret selling my Sears heavy sixer. I'd hang on to that one... The jr would be much easier to find another, should you want to.
  17. I never liked the Proline so I decided to give a CX78 a try. I found it very sloppy and inaccurate.. Asteroids was unplayable for me. I fell back on one of my favorite 2600/8-bit controllers, the Suncom TAC-2. Lacks the second button, but its accurate and asthetically its a good match for the 7800 with the black case and aluminum trim.
  18. My controller of choice as well.. I use something of a modified 'pen grip'. Between my thumb and index finger.

  23. That's an early 410 tape drive - I'm sure you'd have no trouble seling it for ten bucks today. Nice story, cool collection - welcome back to the hobby!
  24. 18:27 @ 151 MPH. I think this is the best I'm gonna do... I may take another run at it tonight, but probably not. My hands are cramping and my cats need a little attention! Thanks for the fun! It's been 20+ years since I played this game heavily - pleasantly surprised my original disk still works. This was my first ever participation in the HSC. I've taken the survey for 2013 and I'll definitely take part as much as I can. -adam
