  1. Great stuff, thanks so much! Can't wait to play this on real NTSC hardware this afternoon... Looking forward to the cart, too!
  2. Any chance of this coming out on a cart for the rest of us? Please?
  3. That's funny, I used to have a 600XL sitting on my coffee table (which is in my living room) that I used as a gaming console.
  4. Actually, I was talking about the games themselves in terms of graphics, sound and actual gameplay. They are the freaking exact same thing. If the aesthetics matter that much, then most of what you prefer about the 5200 is mirrored in the XL series. Quality construction, pleasant design, aluminum trim, etc. I won't defend the inherent cheap feel of the XEs. But again, the games themselves are EXACTLY the same. And most of them (on the 5200) require a 3rd-party controller to be playable! It's like having an Audi S4 with a worn-out, sloppy suspension. :-)
  5. As a fan of both VW and Audi, I understand the point you're trying to make. But by adding 'quality materials' such as AV out and a digital stick such as a Competition Pro, you're eliminating the only differences between a 5200 and an A8. I'm not bashing the 5200.. I own one and play it regularly. But the only meaningful thing that differentiates it is the controller. Games that take advantage of the analog stick (Centipede, Missile Command, Pole Position) or the extra button and/or keypad (Qix, Star Raiders) are a joy! When you start changing the 'steering wheel' to something digital to make the rest of the library playable, you might as well just use an A8. There is no difference.
  6. You're missing my point entirely... If the consoles themselves were hidden from view, and you only saw the screen and the joystick, you'd never know if you were playing on a XL or 5200. The comparison I'm making is more like that of driving a new black BMW vs. driving a new grey BMW, both the same model with the same engine, transmission and interior. You'd never know from the driver's seat.
  7. How, exactly, does the experience of playing say, Pitfall II on a "AV modded 5200.. ..with a Competition Pro stick" differ significantly from playing the same game on an 800XL with a Competition Pro? Its the same game, same chipset, same controller! The entire 'user interface' is identical!
  8. The Super Video mod is fairly involved.. If you're not that comfortable with a soldering iron, there are simpler options. I would at least add the connection for chroma out. The full SV 2.1 mod is really worth the effort, though. You'll be amazed at the improvement in sharpness and color clarity, especially with your monitor (arguably the best composite display, and my personal favorite). I'm not familiar with the FixXL OS, so I can't really comment on that, other than to say it seems unnecessary if you have the real 800 OS available.
  9. Nice setup! One upgrade I'd recommend would be the Super Video mod. Besides the overall upgrade in video quality, it provides separate chroma and luma outputs for that Commodore 1702 you have. The Warp+ 32 in 1 OS upgrade from Atarimax is another one I'd consider essential. It provides 32 switchable operating systems, including the 800 OS. Throw in a memory upgrade and a PAL ANTIC chip, and you'll be able to run virtually any 8-bit software.
  10. PM me with a mailing address and I should be able to take care of this tomorrow
  11. I've got a few 800xl parts machines that I'd be happy to pull a POKEY from for you. I'll test in another machine before sending.
  12. Playing Carnival and loving it!

  13. I'll throw in my two cents: 1 Pressure Cooker 2 Dark Cavern 3 Berzerk 4 Keystone Kapers 5 Carnival 6 River Raid 7 Missile Command 8 Fast Food 9 Pitfall! 10 Empire Strikes Back
  14. Does this board provide RGB output or is it simply an adapter for the 8-pin standard? My (admittedly limited) understanding of peritel/SCART is that is has connections for composite video as well. If this board can be cloned to provide an easy RGB output, this is pretty exciting.. Just seems too good to be true.
  15. Another 1702 fan here.. It works fine with my PAL ANTIC 1200xl.
  16. The 8-bit computer version of Robotron comes with a holder for two CX40s. Should be a good solution for the 7800 as well.
  17. Rediscovering Pressure Cooker and Dark Cavern on my 2600. Two of my old favorites.

  18. Use a Suncom Tac-2 or a Competition Pro...
  19. I always liked Getaway! from APX. The graphics aren't the most stunning, but well rendered. And the gameplay is a lot of fun.
  20. Scramble kicks ass! Chetiry's awesome! I hadn't had time to play since they came in Thursday's mail. Finally got some 'Atari time' tonight!

  21. I've been enjoying in on an emulator, but as we all know, it's just not the same as the real deal. Definitely a challenge!
  22. Just ordered Scramble... I've been waiting for that one... and Chetiry looked too good to pass up.
