  1. So I have bought 4 Atari console recently.

2600, video was dark but I thought maybe this was how it was. I modded it to composite and it was the same.

7800, very nice video and bright. Modded and was the same

7800 (another)  left as rf nice and bright

5200, modded (never tested rf) dark video.

So, I sold the 2600 since I have a 7800, and now I'm hoping to fix my 5200 so I can actually see it.  I read this.

but there were no details given. Most often times ( not always) the silk print remains the same, but no one offered the resister number. So I'm not sure what resister to remove (if that is even the issue) on the 5200. I could have compared schematics...  Does anyone have a clue what really makes the image so dark? I would have suspected a leaking cap but it does not look like there are many caps on these boards. Should I use an op-amp and try to boost the voltage closer to 1 volt? Should I put a scope on it and see what the single says?

  2. Hi all, I have an Atari 5200 that didn't come with the rf unit. My plan was to mod it anyways for RCA and add a power port. I have completed this and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on what adapter specs to use?  I see the OEM adapter is like 9.3 volts and 1.8 amps.  I have many 9 volts around ranging  from 500mA to 4Amps but nothing of course around 9.3. Was going to use a 9volt 1.5 but wanted to ask for opinions first.

  3. yeah at first it as like wanting an old TV in a really bad storm. the RF rca was really bad and I used sandpaper to get it down to metal. didn't take much effort at all. The jack also never really fit well, not sure I can fix that. I could do a RCA mod but was oping to leave this one as it was. I will play with the pot, thx guys.

  4. I'm very shock more info on the net is not available. I have a 7800 that gives a very fussy light RF signal. I'm assuming its a capacitor issue, but I can not find what caps would be responsible for this. Can any one help with the location of the caps for RF?

  5. sorry for all the posts I'd edit them but the edit times out.. I just feel some if this info may help. I also contacted the author but he is rather busy I think. After all this is beta, so one should report the findings...

I have the harmony cart also, and I played on it for a good hour, with no issues. Some times with the concerto I get rolling images, and lately lots of booting the game to a black screen. I have the same roms on both the Harmony and the Concerto but no issues with the Harmony at all. I keep resorting to wanting to clean the cartridge connector on the system as it seems like that changes the condition but I think its a false positive. All of the 7800 carts and the Harmony work fine every time. I really can only suspect the Concerto at this point. I do have another 7800 coming to me, and will test it as well.

  6. ok I see why it goes left and then right now that I study the circuit. Pretty sure its a bad component going to just trace it all thru. The circuit waits for a steady line in the encoder before it determines the direction. I was just making it think incorrectly. But I'm sure the opto is not the problem now.

  7. yup I got it now, is there a place for the latest firmware or do we need to sift thru all 30 some pages to find it?

S0 trying the 95 I put it on an sd and booted up the cart, got nothing but a flashing color screen, waited 15 minutes. Gave up and now my other SD does the same thing. So guessing something whet wrong.  I saw the post about flashing from a PC

ok on the latest 95 ( I think) games still freeze will try another card.

    Which firmware is installed?

It could well be an SD card issue, I know that I had problems with a couple of SD cards before finding a stable one.

Worth looking at the early posts in this thread for some info about which cards work

Is there a place to get firmware and how to update, I asked but was not given any info on that.

  9. yeah I will admit I didnt read thru the page, just took your advice and tried the select button. Little did I know there was another select button. Alex explained it in text and I'm more responsive to that. Nothing you did wrong, just not custom to links I'm old school :) but I really appreciate that I was about to swap chips!

It's worth noting that if there's oxidation inside one of switches, it will always read as if it's in "A" position. Try quickly toggling it back and forth a few times: this could temporarily restore conductivity. To fix it for good, spray some contact cleaner inside it (or replace the switch).

Switches? There is s select switch that is a momentary switch. Are you thinking of the 2600?

  11. ok now I'm confused...

I just played Pole position 2 and it is working with both button?

all select options for Xevious fire both for player one? and I know for a fact the default option is dependent  firing.

  12. yeah was using  that game for a test. but.. I didn't know that switch changes it.

but, no using the select button didn't fix the issue. Player 2 is ok, but player one always does both weapons. I reid to cycle thru all options trying each one.
