Welcome to the first round of the 17th 5200 HSC season! Montezuma’s Revenge tied with Demon Attack in the poll with two votes each, but won the resulting coin toss. Play using the default settings. Emulation is fine, as are custom controls. Pics preferred, but not required except for HSC wins and records.

We have a tie between Demon Attack and Montezuma’s Revenge.
Montezuma’s Revenge won the resulting coin toss and will be our first game of the season. Demon Attack will be part of the next poll, along with the other games that got votes.

It was 40 years ago when I opened my first 5200 on Christmas morning 1982, probably the same as more than a few people on this board.

There’s two 5200 HSC’s, one for original equipment only (title posts are marked with OE) and another where emulation is welcome (no OE in the post titles). The emulation-friendly HSC is on its traditional December break, but will be starting again in January. Please feel free to come back and join in with season 17 then!

I was well-prepared for torture as I remember this game being nigh impossible with the stock controllers, but turns out it isn't anywhere near as bad as I remember! It's a lot tougher than the 2600 version, though, maybe I just convinced myself the controller was the problem
Don't forget you can use the keypad as well, if the 5200 stick is less than satisfactory. I just wish they had made 5 be the down button instead of the 8.

It IS a fun game! Glad you’re giving it another try.
Things to know that aren’t fairly obvious… you have a shield that is activated by pushing down. It can last for up to 15 seconds, but recharges fairly quickly.
You can get bonus points by building a bridge to the right using pieces generated when you hit enemies that spawn in the left. When you cross the bridge and beat the super fast demon on the other side, the bonus points are scored based on the number of level flags earned.
The only other interesting thing I can think of is that the demons will occasionally try to steal an extra life… shoot them to get it back.

can't do it in the UK unfortunately, all the TV frequencies are different! no channel 3 at all. I had to solder up an S-Video graphics circuit to get mine to work, but it's still hooked up to a tube so it looks like I remember it 🙂
Major kudos on importing a 5200 and modding it to work with a TV over there. 👍
