  1. I wouldn't mind picking up one of these myself, but there are a lot of complaints about the joystick's up/down movement on Amazon's user reviews... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ogames&n=507846 Anybody seeing this problem for themselves?
  2. Those of us who were addicted to BASIC programming back when 8-bit computers were all the rage know all to well how false that statement is! I remember spending hours trying to "translate" a BASIC program from one computer to another. There were so many differences in sound and graphics handling, screen size, even basic text handling between computers. Even the simplest program would require some translation between Atari BASIC and Microsoft BASIC. But BASIC programming was incredibly fun. I miss the days when it was one of the primary reasons for buying a computer was to learn how to program it.
  3. Having already collected all the rarity 1-5 carts (along with a small selection of rarer titles), I plan to still keep that collection, even though I have a CC2. It is still enjoyable to have such a large collection of cartridges, plus it keeps my CC2 menu at an easily manageable size by keeping my cartridge games off of it. I probably won't be buying more rare games, however, unless I happen upon them in the wild. I will, however, still buy homebrew games in the future to support their amazing efforts.
  4. I remember the original Atari 2600 action packs of the mid-90's could be easily hacked to allow the use of other Roms (I've long since forgotten how to do this however!) The emulator used for these wasn't very good anyway though. More recently, the PC CD-ROM of Combat included the roms for Combat and Combat2 along with the Stella emulator.
  5. The head itself seems to move just fine, so it doesn't sound like a sensor problem. Any specific tips for testing those three big caps? (I do have some electronic knowledge, but it's a bit rusty!)
  6. I recently acquire a 2nd 1050 disk drive from Ebay (along with a 800XL), but it seems unable to spin a disk. The belt is unbroken. I initially suspected the motor, but unplugged it and plugged it into a working 1050 and it spun just fine. But it still didn't spin when placed back in the Ebay 1050. Any ideas of what else in the 1050 might cause the drive motor not to spin? Or alternately, is anyone looking to buy a broken 1050 or some of it's parts? :-)
  7. What a great game! It's one of the nicest looking games I've seen on the 2600... up there with the best of Activision's work! It looks more like an Atari computer (8-bit) game than a 2600 game. Great job! Some ideas: How about giving certain important ships their own distinctive sound effects? Like the small fast-moving ship in Atlantis, for example. It would be kind of cool to see a ships's point value in the "wreckage" graphics like in the arcade game (not sure if that's feasible.) I, for one, like the way the refueling target works now. Because it moves so slowly, you can try to use up all of your remaining torpedoes before nailing it at the last moment before it disappears. I like the way it appears every 1000 points, so you can plan for it's appeareance. I really like the way the game ramps up difficulty every 1000 points. I agree it would be nice to at least have the choice to skip some of the earlier waves to get to the more challenging later waves sooner. (Perhaps the current setup could be retained as the "easy" version.) :-) This is really a great game... far stronger than the other 2600 "sub shooters" (Air-Sea Battle, Submarine Commander, Sub Scan, Marine Wars.) I'm looking forward to it's release... any chance of another patch contest? :-)
  8. *bump* Anyone found a Miner 2 ROM yet that doesn't roll on a NTSC TV? :-)
  9. Thanks for the tip! Works great now! Other CC2 users: Use a line in MENU.TXT like the following: Hack-em HACKEM F8 F8BANK1
  10. As a very happy Thrust + Platinum owner, I dont't see any problems with the game being released in different cases. I personally though Thomas' promise to release no new versions had only to do with the game's code, not it's packaging. As a fellow SW figure collector, I feel Gateway's pain. But the best way to deal with unwanted variations (of either the Atari or Star Wars variety) is simply not to buy them! :-)
  11. WOW! Just tried this and I'm beyond impressed. I very much wish I could pass this cart through a wormhole to 1981. :-) I'm trying to get this to work with the Cuttle Cart 2. What is the bankswitching scheme used? Thanks!
  12. Another big THANK YOU to Greg for hosting these. :-) And here's a polite request to anyone who might have roms not in the archive to consider sending them along to Greg.
  13. As it happens, my rarest cart (Bumper Bash - rarity 9) has no labels. Still a 9 with no label is better than no 9 at all!
  14. I think that's actually Miner 2049er Vol. 1 there. Miner Vol 2. starts with the screen with the white mobile elevator in the middle, I think.
  15. I found an Espial ROM that doesn't roll! (attached) espial.zip
  16. Two of the AtariAge Roms - Miner 2049er and Espial - cause the screen to roll when I try them on my Cuttle Cart 2. Are these PAL Roms perhaps, or is it just sloppy programming? Thanks for any info!
  17. Just a quick note to let you all know Chad truly is a genius. After a few emails, he was able to figure out the problem and sent me a new SC.ROM that cleared up my Supercharger bin issue! I'm truly impressed with his wizardry. Many thanks, Chad!
  18. Unfortunately, all my Supercharger bins have the same issue.
  19. Still really enjoying the CC2 this weekend! I'm simply curious, however, if anyone else is having problems with Supercharger games. My bins work fine in Z26, and are recognized by the menu generating software. But after the CC2 runs them, the screen simply turns orange. This isn't really a big deal as I do have a real Supercharger and the Stella CD. I was just curious if anyone else was having a problem making this paticular CC2 feature work.
  20. Just now got my new CC2 up and running! WOW!!! This really is the ultimate Atari product. It's like the entire 7800/2600 game library, a Supercharger, and a High Score Cart all wrapped up into one amazingly compact package. It comes with with extra nice touches like a serial connection and the POKEY chip socket. For me, the ability to play all the rare games and prototypes on real Atari hardware makes the thing well worth the price! As for setup... it was pretty easy! I've only just started and I was able to get a large number of games going using just the Quick Start instructions. Looking forward to years of playing with this amazing device. Thanks so much, Chad!
  21. Robotron 2084, along with Galaga, is one of the absolutle must-have titles for the 7800. It's an amazingly fun version of one of the all-time greatest arcade games. It IS relatively easy... even playing with just one stick, I can get to level 14 or higher. Nonetheless, it retains all the joy of the original.
  22. I got mine yesterday also (thanks Chad!) , but I haven't had any time to play with it yet. Hopefully tomorrow!!! :-)
  23. A good solution if you want to keep using your sixer is to get one of the multi-game adapters like the Game Brain (picture attached). You can then insert your favorite red label games into it, and select which one you want to play. This setup works very nicely for me.
  24. D'oh! That's right... Strategy-X is just quirky that way... even on a 2600. Thanks for the reminder... sorry for sounding a false alarm.
  25. That's interesting... I didn't have problems inserting it... and Pooyan seemed to work fine. Does any one know for sure if there are significant differences in the cartridge slots between different 7800 models? It sure seems like that might be the case, in addition to the various compatibility differences.
