  1. I had a similar problem with an Activision Rampage cart (rolled on a heavy sixer only) I just tweaked my vertical hold on the back of the TV slightly, and that fixed it... didn't even have to readjust it for other games (so it's not a PAL cart... whew)

  2. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to the 5th ghost for loaning me his copy of the Shooting Gallery manual!!!

I have scanned it and sent it to AtariAge to hopefully be included in their archive.

It is FAR more difficult to get extra bullets in this game than Carnival, which seriously shortens the length of time it can be played. This isn't a bad thing... like many of the early Activion games, it makes for a perfect short, yet fast paced game. :-)

  3. I didn't hate the Intellivision, but I never really understood it's supposed "superiority" to the 2600. The graphics were just about as blocky and ugly, but there were far fewer games available and those controllers were the pits. (In fact, between the Atari and the NES, EVERY system had terrible controllers!) The one big selling point the Intellivsion had for a short while was it's sports games... it had one that looked and played ok, while all Atari had was Home Run and Football (uggg!) But it wasn't too much longer before the decent RealSports games came out, and finally even Mattel seemed to admit defeat and translate just about all of it's carts for the 2600.

I know as kids most of us had to make do with what our parents chose to buy us, but I always kinda felt sorry for the Intellivision (and Odyssey!) kids... all us Atari owners had all the best games! :-)

  4. That is correct! :D

Every game between Oink (cart #AX-23) and Cosmic Commuter (cart #AG-038) features the Activision rainbow. It was dropped for the end of the line Activision games - Ghostbusters, Commando, Kung Fu Master, Rampage, Double Dragon, and River Raid II.

  5. A:Worst Adaptation of an Arcade Game

    Donkey Kong

    B: Worst Activision Game Ever

Spider Fighter... it just lacks that Activision orginality. It's tempting to say Bridge, but since I have no idea how to play it, that's not really fair!

    C: Worst Imagic Game Ever

    Trick Shot

D: Worst Game Ever Produced for the 2600

    Football

    E: Worst Sports Game Ever

    Football

    F: Worst Graphics

    Football

    G: Worst Game Company

Froggo... hacking someone else's game and releasing it as an original creation is about as low as you can go.

    H: Worst Atari game

Football - can you tell I have no love for that cartridge! Thank goodness there are so many other choices to play football on the 2600!

  6. Which game was the first to feature the rainbow after the on-screen Activision logo?

    and...

which was the last one to do so?

(I'm pretty sure I have the answers to these, but I thought it would be fun to have everyone guess at it first!) :-)

  7. I know this thread isn't meant to be at all serious, but my mom really and truly thought many games were tools of the Devil!

Demon Attack for example was forbidden, as was Adventure (!) No Satan's Hollow in the arcade, of course!

Thankfully she had a soft spot for Ms Pac, Carnival, Frogger... the cutesy games were all just fine by her. :-)

  8. I loved Atari Defender! It was my favorite cart for a long time when I got it waaaay back in '82! My only real complaint about it is it IS a bit too easy... it's one of the very, very few games I have rolled, and I did that when I was 11 years old. :-)

I gotta admit, I never saw the appeal of Demon Attack, even back in the day. Cosmic Ark, on the other hands, rules! Then, now, and forever! :-)

  9. I am interested in your Ghost Manor/Spike's Peak (XONOX Double Ender)

    In exchange, I have:

    Adentures of Tron

    Fire Fighter

    Fishing Derby

    Decathalon

    Planet Patrol

    Towering Inferno

    Word Zapper

    Trick Shot

    Tape Worm

    Swordquest: Fireworld

    Super Cobra (label peeling)

    Omega Race (w/Booster Grip)

    Coconuts (beveled handle)

    Crackpots

    Frostbite(great game!)

    Plaque Attack

    Beany Bopper

    Moonsweeper

    Fathom (end label faded)

    Sprint Master

    Donkey Kong Jr (Red label)

    Fantastic Voyage

    Fast Food (beveled handle)

    Pressure Cooker(bad label damage)

    Entombed

    Eggomania

    M.A.D.

Let me know what you might be interested in!

If anyone else sees something here they might like, my trade page is at: http://www.geocities.com/sbdamon/ataritradelist.html

  10. No Shootin Gallery fans out in Atari-land? :-(

I went digging through my ancient back issues of Electronic Fun for it's review of the game. It recommended game 4, in which you must hit the center clock before it's spots disappear, or else lose 4 of your 64 bullets. You get to shoot at the high-scoring train by first shotting the monkey.

So that gives me something to work with. :-) I still would love to see a copy of the manual for this cool game. Is there a list somewhere of all the manuals that aren't yet archived? I would be happy to type up or scan any manuals that I might have that aren't out there yet.

  11. I really like most of Imagic's games. Cosmic Ark is a top 10 game for me, and Dragonfire, Fathom, Star Voyager, Laser Gates and Moonsweeper are all class-A games. In fact, I just recently completed my Imagic collection (NTSC only), and have been enjoying some of their rarer games like Subterranea and Shootin Gallery (nobody knows the rules for this??) for the first time.

Having said all that, though, Imagic still takes second place to Activision. I have spend hours and hours and hours playing such classics as River Raid, Kaboom, Stampede, Keystone Kapers, Pitfall!, Dolphin, and H.E.R.O. While most of Imagic's games are space shooters, Activision made games of all types, all with bright colorful graphics that made the 2600 do things that Atari never dreamed it could do. Keystone Kapers I feel is by far the best looking game for the system. (Amazing that it was made by the same programmer who brought us Space Jockey and Donkey Kong!)

Activision simply made the best 2600 cartridges ever. :D

  12. I mailed out a couple of carts for trade today (Private Eye for Skeet Shoot and Turmoil for Worm War I). Still got lots of games available for trading, including some really great games like Solar Storm, Moonsweeper, Crackpots, Frostbite, and many others. I'm getting a bit tired of spending so much money on Ebay to increase my cart collection, so I would really love to trade away some of these duplicates for new games. Thanks for looking!

  13. I just got this game, and it seems to be a very cool game reminiscent of Carnival. However, there is no manual posted here at AtariAge (gasp!) so I'm a bit unsure how to get more bullets and what targets score the most points, etc. Can anyone give me some ideas... or even better, get the manual posted? Thanks.

  14. I've created a web page with my have's and want's for the Atari 2600...

    http://www.geocities.com/sbdamon/ataritradelist.html

I took some time to sort both lists by rarity so as to make trades as fair as possible. So trades of carts in the same rarity are of course ideal, but I'm open to more creative trades as well. :-) Just send me an email with what you'd like to swap. My Ebay handle is also sdamon, and you can see I have 79 pieces of positive feedback, no negatives. :-)

    Thanks for looking!

  15. Does anyone else have problems playing Planet Patrol on their 7800's?

On mine, the scrolling is very jerky, and during the 'landing sequence' the player for the ship turns into a wide diagonal line! Also, no truck appears.

I've had this game for years and just assumed it was a buggy, bad game... but then I tried it on a real 2600 and lo and behold it played very nicely!

So does Planet Patrol belong on the short list of games that have 7800 issues?
