  1. Hi there, I've been scouring the internet for an ACS editor because I thought it might be cool to try my hand at making games for it again, as I did as a kid, but I don't think I have patience for the old UI these days. Your viewer looks to be the closest thing, and at least you've got the file format figured out. Kudos for doing it!

It's a known issue with RetroPie, EmulationStation and multiple controllers.   It will drive you insane.  I went through this with both of mine, using the original RetroPie build.  It has nothing to do with BK's build or the components he builds the UIF with.  It has to do with how RetroPie sees the controllers as always live in the system.  So you have to switch the controller USB ports around until you get everything recognized... which is still not guaranteed...

Thanks so much, @IMBerzerk! I had just about given up but now, although this sounds like a pain, at least it should work.

  3. I'm having a kind of similar problem as @Paul Lee above, but I didn't even get as far as he did. I am looking into getting a Bluetooth 8BitDo Pro 2 to work with my Ultimate Intellivision Flashback for Intellivision gaming. I got it to pair in Retropie Setup, but Emulation Station doesn't seem to recognize it. I tried the Configure Input option from the ES menu, but it just says 2 gamepads are detected as it always does. I'm guessing it should say 3 once it has recognized the 8BitDo. When I enter the Configure Input screen, I've confirmed the LED on the gamepad to indicate pairing is on, and there's no other machine around with Bluetooth enabled that it could be accidentally paired to.

Another thing I checked in Retropie-Setup is a screen where you can configure the order of connected controllers. Long story short, the 8BitDo controller doesn't show up there at all.

If anybody has any advice to get this working I'd appreciate it! I'm looking to improve my Shark! Shark! game with less hand pain once I'm 20 minutes in - my aging hands can't handle the original Intellivision controllers for too long anymore. ? Thank you!

  4. Hello, I am not too intimate with the culture/rules of this site. But I see some status updates being reacted to with hostility, like "stop posting this s***". One user, who is apparently now suspended, said he would react to all of the status updates with the "confused" reaction because they're stupid, or something approximately like that.

I figured your own status updates were kind of your own personal space to post whatever you want, and people interested in the post can comment, so why would anyone bother poking their heads in and then getting upset?

BUT I also saw that there's a Blog feature, so maybe that's more appropriate for random, personal posts? Just want to make sure I understand the correct, intended uses of these features.

    Thanks!

Thank you Mark. Magician Lord is my favorite game on the Neo-Geo AES and MVS. It was the game that introduced me to the Neo-Geo and made me a buff for 31+ years. :)

For me it's the game that saved Christmas of 1991. Hah! :)

Briefly, my story is I got the Neo Geo in Sept. 1991 (won on Video Power), and my dad generously bought me a game for Christmas that same year. It was Ninja Combat and I didn't like it as me and my brother could play through it so easily with the infinite continues. So I was disappointed. But my dad was able to exchange it for Magician Lord, which blew me away with its awesomeness. :) I played that a ton. It was so hard but I loved the atmosphere, the music, the bizarre-looking, enemies. Really fun game if you don't mind the difficult.

    Hi guys,

I'll start the new year with the usual game I play. Just finished Magician Lord for the Neo-Geo. The game that started it all for me to be a buff of the Neo-Geo 32 years ago. :)

    Anthony..

I love Magician Lord! If you played the AES version, that's an impressive accomplishment. If MVS well that's still cool. :)

I was having Lasagna, reading Garfield strips, and playing Neo-Geo with my family.

lol Anthony, if you had asked me to guess what you did on Christmas, I would say exactly this. ? Hope you had a great time!

Have you tried XenoCrisis yet? I'm thinking of buying the ROM and playing it on a stream sometime soon!

2 or 3 years ago I did a live stream on youtube. I even had 3 viewers. ;)

The next year I tried the same, but by then they changed their policy that you have 1,000 subscribers if you want to stream.

Hey was just browsing this thread and I think you've got this wrong...I only have about 150 subscribers and I've been streaming typically twice a week since March 2020. I had even fewer when I started. :) I think you might be referring to the 1000 subscribers threshold for streaming directly from the phone app.

    Hi guys,

Back with AtariAge member @NeonPeon. Here we see Mark in action having fun playing NAM-1975. Awesome. Let's see how he does. Enjoy. :)

    From the description,

"Let's practice at... Nam 1975! I'm attempting to compete in the high score challenge for this classic Neo Geo game on neogeoforever.com. Continuing with the style of my "Let's Practice At" streams, I'll quite possibly play this repeatedly to improve my score. The rules are: one credit only; all default settings except difficulty level must be 4 (for the MVS version). Let's see how I do!"

Thanks for the plug Anthony! What a game Nam 1975 is - it's intense and high pressure from the get-go and rarely lets up. ?

    Hi Guys,

Back with AtariAge member NeonPeon. Here we see Mark in action doing an excellent 2 hour + video of awesome Neo-Geo gaming action to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the Neo-Geo thread. Thank you so much Mark. This means plenty to us for sure. Enjoy folks. :)

    From the description,

"Tonight's Monday MAME will feature all Neo Geo games! My recent online acquaintance, Anthony aka fdurso224, the super nice founder of the popular and insanely prolific "Official Neo Geo Thread' on AtariAge (1000+ pages!) requested a little something in celebration of said thread's 7th anniversary. So here it is! We've played some Neo Geo before on this stream, but this time let's go all out. :D and play nothing but Neo Geo games for about 2 hours, and possibly show off some of my 30-year-old Neo Geo equipment. Requests are welcome, but my disclaimer is I suck at most one-on-one fighters - happy to play some anyway, just be aware of my lack of skills. :) I might attempt a full playthrough of Nam 1975. Enjoy!"

    Anthony..

    Thanks for the plug, Anthony!

I had a lot of fun and I'll probably play more Neo Geo games on my stream soon. :) Happy 7th to the big thread!

Once you find the right size, you might want to pick up some inkjet transparencies, print a mirrored image of the overlay (so that it shows through on the other side), and then spray paint the back with a few coats of white paint. Should make for a rather kick-ass facsimile.

Hello! Apologies for resurrecting this ancient thread, but I ordered some ROMS from David at intellivision.us, and the games include overlay images. So I was thinking of trying this technique to home-print them. Can anyone verify whether it's feasible? I asked David himself and he says he has no suggestion, but he used to use a printing shop. Any advice is appreciated!

It's a replacement BIOS chip that boots up and checks a bunch of things but I'm pretty sure your original BIOS chip is soldered down. Trying the diagnostics BIOS ROM would require some electronics rework tools. I'd offer to socket the BIOS for you and try it but I just got a tracking number for a shipment of UltraHDMI kits. That means I'm going to be pretty busy managing the UltraHDMI group buy for the foreseeable future. The group buy members have been waiting a year and a half for this!

I can still send a NeoDIAG ROM if you have some way to socket the chip.

I appreciate the offer! Are there any instructions out there on how to install it?

Nice!  My first Neo was a gift so I can appreciate getting it for freeeeee!  What gameshow, something local?  I only remember shows like Wonderama but I think that was in New Jersey and years before the Neo.  Same thing with the Pix show on WPIX TV, years before the Neo.  Still cool, though.

There was actually a game store that rented Neo Geo games on Long Island BITD, I want to say it was either in Huntington on Route 110, or in Seaford on Merrick Road.  They rented consoles too, I remember an ex girlfriends brother renting a 3DO console and the shop calling me up when he was late returning it!

Good luck getting the Neo up and running again, there are people on neo-geo.com who might be able to repair it if you don't have any luck on your own.

The show was called Video Power, which aired on weekday mornings on WOR/Channel 9 in our area, at I believe 6:00am, possibly 6:30. Yeah my dad used to get me rental games, probably from the store you're talking about. That's how I played most Neo Geo games. :) I'll have to ask him if he remembers where the store was. He wound up buying me three games altogether over the following year or so - one of them was used from that very store - I believe it was half off which isn't bad!
