I have been looking at these for a few weeks. We have a nice collection of handhelds and consoles, but sometimes it is a pain to hook them up just to play for an hour or two. It is also a pain to lug a Lynx and different Gameboys along when we travel. One of these systems, if they worked well, look like they would make a great addition. Is one better than the other in any way? The Wiz looks to be more expensive, but has a stylus - which I really don't need. How good are they at MP3s and movies? Any quality issues? Are there any other systems we should be looking at? Thanks Catsmasher

I don't know about spending more for an empty box than one with a real game in it. I guess if I already had everything else... Now posters like this with the real artwork (like Defender, Space Invaders, ) would be worth some bucks.

What are some of the best SNES games? My 15 year old digs the classic Nintendo. We got him some "new" N64 games, but I would like to get him a few SNES games as well. He has Mario, and Zelda already. He is not big into the fighter games. If this has already been beat to death, please point me towards the latest thread Thanks

When I first got my MAME cabinet I had these visions of playing for hours on end every night. Didn't quite work out that way. I do manage to play some a couple of times a week, and my kids are on it quite a bit - so it is all good.

You are lucky. I have three Goodwill stores near me and have seen ZERO video game stuff at any of them in over five years. Zero, nada, zilch. Unless you are looking for old clothes - Goodwill isn't worthmuch. We have a local used game store called McVans and they usually have plenty of carts. They get systems from time to time but are pricier than garage sales. The good thing is they will take a system or game back if it doesn't work or stops working in 30 days so you don't risk getting stuck. I had to take back a Saturn console, a super NES console and a Gamegear and they replaced them no problem. But yea, for video games our Goodwills stink.

Wii, PlayStation & Xbox - Please bow before Atari!
Catsmasher replied to prorobb's topic in Atari 2600
Be carefull you don't end up worshiping a false idol. Atari (Nolan Bushnell) didn't CREATE anything. He took other peoples ideas and executed them better. Computer Space came from a mainframe game called Spacewar, Pong came from Ralph Baer, and the idea for a cartridge system came from Fairchild. Nolan found a way to pull the ideas off and make them profitable. Nothing wrong with that by the way - Welcome to America. For the record I love Atari and have a lot of stuff. Not going to recite any pledge, though - that is a bit wierd. -

I didn't know about last years PacMan. It's off to ebay I go.

Has anyone else seen the new Galaga ornament at Hallmark? It is a little arcade cabinet that lights up and plays 10-15 second of game sounds. A must have! if they sell a lot of them, they may come out with a new one every year - so go buy one.

Thanks for the feedback. My wife vetoed the chloroform idea. I got my high score back, but I had to do it the old fashioned way by parking in front of the machine with a beer and playing for an hour or so. That's where the fun is. I also drove his high score off the list - take that! I realize now that the classic games are more in line with good old fashioned values. They make you earn the score - no cheats! Rob

Can you guys (or gals) point me toward good sources for tips and strategies to play the classic 80s arcades (asteroids, battlezone, defender, etc)? My 15 year old just beat my high score on asteroids (we have a MAME machine) and has become insufferable. Help a fellow old-school gamer put the little Xbox worshiping punk back in his place!

Thanks for all the feedback! Looks like I will be trolling for a bigger tube TV! Sometimes new technology aint all it's cracked up to be.

I just added a Sega Saturn console to my collection! It is my first Sega console and my first CD console as well. My question is what are the best games to get for it? I purchased a light gun and Virtua Cop. That rocks. The only problem is that the light gun apparently does not work on my DLP big screen and my only tube set is a little 13" (it works on that). I guess I will be looking for a big, pre-digital tube TV if I want to play light gun games on my old consoles. Has anyone else who has run into this figured out a way to get a light gun to work on a newer TV? What about LCD? I guess that is two questions...

Well my parents finally threatened to take my games away

Wow, You might want to post on-line less and find a good therapist. There are some issues there. -

If my kid thought it was OK to type something as vile and offensive as "GxxFxxxingDxxxxx" on an internet post, it would be the last post he sent for about a month. Maybe even military school. Grow the heck up, Stich. Using irreverent and foul language doesn't make you look grown up. It makes you look foolish and people will never take you seriously. -

Hey Poopoyo and Stich666, I have been following this thread with interest. I think a couple of ungrateful, clueless rats need to wise up. Or then again, dis your folks, blow off school, act like you know everything, use foul language, cop an attitude, idolize your 'friends', treat adults who care about you like crap, and only worry about what YOU want to do right now - because as the judge in Caddyshack said "The world needs ditch diggers, too." I restrict my kids' access to their video games if their grades slip - I guess that makes me a butthole or something. And I am talking about getting Bs dude! They are off the games until the grades turn back into As. That may sound harsh, but guess what - my kids are capable of getting As and they do. I have also taught then respect - if they mouth off or use foul language, they pay a price for their behavior. It is all about boundaries. That is what parents are supposed to do, they set boundaries and enforce them so that their kids will be grow up to be productive and respectible adults. I got good grades, stayed out of trouble (or learned my lessons anyway), earned two degrees and have a professional career. Guess what, I can get on ebay, Carl's electonics, go to the game store, etc and buy any game or system anytime I want. I have a basement full of video games including a super hot MAME cabinet that I had custom built to match my pool table, pinball machine and jukebox. I collected this stuff over 20 years, and I am not bragging, I am just pointing out that there are long-term rewards to hard work and good grades, one is being able to pursue hobbies and passions later in life. Try doing that working part time at Wendys and living with your folks. Oh yea, I am also a manager with 18 people working for me in a professional environment. Guess what? Young people with attitudes like yours do not last long in the workplace. Today, it is all about teamwork and working with others. For some reason, you sound a lot like the guys who can't seem to hang on to a job and always have a reason why it is someone elses fault. Might sound harsh, but watch the news - the real world is harsh. And if you think your parents are a pain, wait until you run into people who don't know you or give a rat's rear about you. They won't put up with your crap. Good luck to you, kids! With attitudes like yours you are going to need all the luck you can get. PS Yes, I do want fries with that. -
How do you get it to work with two controllers. Do you strap them to a board or something? I like Robotron, but I hit the joysticks pretty hard on the arcade cabinet,
-
I bought it mainly for the poster. The Lynx posters look great in my gameroom. I don't care for the game, but my 12 year old daughter likes it. I am more into the puzzle games. My 12 year old is also mature enough not to jump at someone and call them a moron when she thinks they might have made an honest mistake. I taught her better manners than that... It really bugs me when people post at each other so rudely for no real reason. We are all supposed to be fellow gamers here.

You guys worry me. I had a dream I was in a PacMan tournament with the Swedish Bikini Team. We used a 2600 but their joysticks were different. -It was a tie so we had to mudwrestle for the trophy. Does that mean anything?
-
I liked the part about the MicroVision. I actually have one of those. Me and my sisters played the heck out of that thing. I should probably dig it up and add it to the collection!
-
To answer your first question - It is an awesome game!. My favorite Lynx game yet. As to rarity, who knows? I got mine off Ebay and thought it was resonable. Beware jokers on Ebay that say everything is "rare". Scan the completed items to see what something generally goes for and buy it if it is worth it to you. Be patient. This stuff has been around for 20 years. And beside what we might think-there is not a lot of demand. You can always try it out in emulation.

Just black shelves from home depot. I can post a pic in a day or two. I just have the consoles on the shelf. The controllers, adapters, etc are stored in the closet - keeps it cleaner looking.
