I agree with the other folks. DO NOT SELL YOUR OTHER GAMES - YOU WILL LIVE TO REGRET IT! Then you wll spend a lot of $ bying them off of ebay or off of websites. I have shelves in my basement (MY basement) an we have all the consoles lined up in a neat display. You never know what people might want to play someday. In my case - my 15yr old son loves the Nintendo consoles, My 12 yr old daughter loves the hand helds and I am the attari console nut. When people visit they go "Wow, do you have Goldeneye for the N64?", or "Do you have Zelda for this or that?" or "Do you have Space Invaders for the Atari 2600?" and I say "Yea man" and we break it out and play. But hey - don't listen to me - I am just a 46 yr old video game nut who learned the hard way. Keep Playing!

I have another idea. How about a USB cable system that attaches the Lynx to a computer. Play using the Lynx for the controls, and the computer for image and sound - with power from the USB cable. For around 25-50 bucks Huh Huh

I also am a solo player. I have to play with my joystick all alone, in the basement when no one is looking ...

You can find a decent lynx still. The stores got stuck with tons of them and they are out there if you are patient. The games arent that much on ebay either if you are patient. The emulator works OK. The sound is not great, but I just use it to check out games before I fork over the cash - then I play on my real lynx (plugged into the wall of course )

I have the Lynx, Gamegear, Nomad, and NeoGeo Pocket color - like I said, geek with a real paycheck.. Got most of them cheap except the Nomad. I had to shell out 75 sheckels for that bad boy. I like the Lynx most of all due to the games. Xybot, Chipschallenge, T-triz, Battlewheels are all great. New rechargeable batteries help too. I am not a big "fighter game" fan or side scrolling game fan - so the Gamegear and Nomad just hang in the museum. I like the Neogeo system itself most- great size, great screen, great controls, but the games really suck! It seems stuck in the Japanese market and never really was targeted at US customers.

Remember, even though we are a bunch of grown up geeks with paychecks, most of the handhelds were bought by parents for thier kids. So mom and dad get to make part of the call. Mom and dad didn't care about screen size, refresh rates, memory, color vs B&W - they cared about cost and battery life. As a parent, I can relate. You start a roadtrip to grandma's house with a lynx and two hours on the road, jr is scrambling for extra batteries, or (worse yet) demanding that you pull over somewhere to buy some more battteries. With the Gameboy, the little dude can sit in the backseat and beep away all day long. The size was a killer, too. It just looked scary and possibly a weapon when little tommy decided to throw it at his sister. The Lynz was designed by technonerds for technonerds and they missed the practical aspects. IE Nintendo's marketing daprtment did a much better job defining the key product attributes that the customers valued and then thier engineering department worked hard to make sure they set targets that delivered those attributes.

Go MAME! Ghouls n Ghosts get old quick. It would just collect dust at our place. We use the heck out of our MAME cabinet. It is a whole lot easier to work on, too.

If they had been able to get todays rechargeable batteries back then, the Lynx would have been able to more than compete with the gameboy. Once again we can claim that our beloved Atari was just "ahead of its time"

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Catsmasher replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I found an Odyssey 300 game system in an antique store for $3.00. Came with the original box (a little beat up) the manual and warranty card. Took it home, hooked it up and it works great. Playing it gets a little old pretty quick, but it looks great up on the shelf! Keep Playing! Rob -

What's the first videogame you ever played?
Catsmasher replied to GameGirl420's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I was at a pizza place with my family and there was a table-style pong game in the back (fake wood trim and all). It was a dime to play and after we bugged my dad for the fourth or fifth dime he came back to see what was going on. He took one look at the game and went "Pffft" that's stupid. He proclaimed it a fad that wouldn't last. No one ever called my dad a visionary. He said Star Trek was stupid and that when a show got cancelled it never came back. He also proclaimed the PC a joke and a fad back in 1978 when I wanted to buy a TRS-80. He said that it didn't do anything useful. Geez -
I fear she may be telling other folks that some Atari Collector slammed her game on the table and called her "stupid" - all over a measly $3.00 - less than the price of a cup of fancy coffee. Business is business. These people are trying to make money - and should not have to applogize for it. If you don't like the price or their attitude - smile, don't buy it, move on and give your money to someone else - It isn't worth it to get all worked up and give all Atari collectors a bad name by acting poorly. It is always harder to be the bigger person, but it is always smarter. "You give what you get"? I think the quote goes "You get what you give" One time I was in a local store that deals in used games and was looking at a specific cart. The label was pretty beat up, but I wanted the game to play it. When they told me the price ($9.00) I knew that was what a cart in like new condition was worth. I handed it back and (get this) smiled at the saleman and told him that was more than I was willing to pay for it. He said he understood and placed it back in the case. Later that week, the same guy gave me a great deal on some Lynx games because we had developed a good relationship. And then later, my daugher was looking at a Nintendo gameboy and he made her a sweet deal on that as well. Keep Playing Rob

Getting back into arcade games. Resurrecting a Robotron
Catsmasher replied to Ian Primus's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Can you be a little more specific? Just kidding - this type of thread really motivates me to get up off my lazy rear and hire someone to do something like this. Just kidding again - I don't have to get up. Nice work. We can't let such pieces of our history get lost. -
My kind of gamer - classic! I just got back into Burger-Time. I am trying to get all the bad guys to line up so I can fuse them together and go for the 4000 point bonus by sending the bunch to the bottom. So far, no dice - but I saw it on youtube, so I am going to keep trying. Keep Playing Rob

lynx - can i tell if it works or not with no game?
Catsmasher replied to Chandler's topic in Atari Lynx
Go ahead and buy some games! If it doesn't work, you have a great excuse to go buy another Lynx. It is known as 'Escalation of committment' and it is what makes collectors tick. It also makes spouses roll their eyes and walk away when you are in mid-sentence about that great deal you got on the .... -
I also vote for "Chips Challenge"

I own every system but the Jaguar so far (except the 5200) and I was thinking of looking to get one. I like the underdog. I drive a Yugo and a Gremlin, I root for the Lions and I like to chill out to movies. I have three systems - a laserdisk, a betamax and (my latest) an HDDVD! Chill out and have fun! 99 percent of the rest of the world thinks we are ALL nuts. There are not enough of us to be fighting each other. Keep Playing! Rob

Great Link! Thanks. By far the coolest looking ones are Xbot, Cyberball, StunRunner, TurboSub and Checkered Flag. I have been looking for something to add to my game room wall. A few cheap frames and these will look great. Keep Playing! Rob

Cool! That shows how on the ball I am. When I looked in my boxes I have a poster for TuboSub and Xybots! Gonna look good on the "game-stuff" wall. Keep Playin! Rob

I like the posters! Where did you get them?

Ah, the constant sparring between the husbands and wives. For what it is worth - I think it looks great! What good is a collection that you don't show off! We compromised by displaying the consoles and handhelds but keeping most the games out of sight. We just remodelled the basement. I will post a pict in the other forum. Keep playing! Rob
