  1. I have a Majesco Game Gear for sale in good physical and working condition. Some light scratches on screen cover otherwise works , looks and sounds great. Body is clean with battery covers intact.

Looking for a PC Engine Core or Core two system. Let me know if you're interested. Pics posted later.

  2. Stamp collecting is one of the world's most popular hobbies and has a bit longer history than collecting computers.

I'm not sure it's an appropriate comparison.

True, but if there's another thing to note, it's that new generations are getting into older gaming more than ever. More kids are seeking out 16-bit, 8-bit, and older as they're realizing how great the games were from that era. It's hard to say if it'll remain as popular or become more popular, but I wouldn't bet that these older gaming systems and computers will be useless in the eyes of younger gamers in the future once we're all long dead.

  3. Maybe it's history of the other kind, on how not to do it, huge flop like the C64GS

Maybe, but that seems even weirder. "Hey man, I bought that 23k dollar computer yesterday to remember that company that sucked it up after their huge success!". Just, doesn't have the same ring to it :).

I just wonder how people set aside money for purchases like this. I'd be able to "afford" this, but ... I wouldn't dare purchase it. Even if this was something I cared for deeply, like Star Wars, Nintendo, Sega, or Tron related... no. Not in a million years no.

Maybe I'm not "committed" enough as a collector, but the most I'd spend on anything is maybe a thousand bucks. Past that, it just gets into affecting my actual life a bit too much for it to be "fun video games" anymore. Kinda like that Sega Pluto that was for sale a while back. I'd offer about a grand for it. Past that, it's just a plastic shell on a Saturn. Not worth it, no matter how much I love the Saturn.

  4. Yeah, either non-working or not complete systems. Plus this one isn't yellowed. It's the text-book version of what this system should have been brand new, which is probably why it went for so much.

Although, again, it's freakin' nuts. I didn't think an old computer, even one tied to the Commodore line, would fetch anything like this.

I bet there will be more of these popping up on eBay after a profit margin like that!

  5. Wait, are you guys using the flash cart to play these? My new virtual boy modded controller works well enough, so I think ill hold off on the flash cart for now. Also really getting into Rescue on Fractalus. Very addicting and really impressive for the era. Having a blast with it. Then again, every game I seem to buy for this system is insanely fun. Really in love with this computer, and I keep putting hour after hour into this. Haven't been this addicted to a console since probably the n64.

  6. So it turns out Play-Asia forgot how to send a package overseas to the US. I ordered one of the New 3DS consoles (the small ones we're not getting here), along with a few games. Turns out, Play-Asia in all their infinite wisdom decided to not attach a customs form detailing the contents inside, nor provided the necessary FCC electronics form they were supposed to send with the package.

Here's where the fun begins. Fed-Ex can't seem to get a hold of them, and Play-Asia doesn't understand what they need to do when I contacted them via their support email. So the package is stuck in limbo in Tennessee.

    Yay.

I've never had a problem with these guys in the past, but it's been about a year since I've ordered from them. Has the place gone down hill recently, and I just didn't hear about it, or did someone just mess up and I'm getting the raw end of the deal?

Any advice at this point as to what I can do? They sent me the FCC electronics form in case I could fill it out for Play-Asia, but I don't have a clue what anything on the form means (seriously, it's like Legal mumbo jumbo, asking for numbers and asking for reference names).

  7. Where's the one in Phoenix that's sticking around? I hadn't heard that.

Drove past one on East Bell Rd. the other day and was tempted to stop. But, they haven't had much of anything I've needed for the past 10-15 except a couple of capacitors so I kept on moving.

It is somehow going to feel weird when they're gone.

The guy said the location on Baseline road will still be open. Not sure if that's true, but here's to hoping. I don't like going on Baseline because of all the speed cams, but still nice to know.

  8. Got some RCA cables, converters, and a wire organizer there yesterday. Got huge savings, and left the store with a $13 bill. I was so excited about this (as their cords alone start at $15-$20) until I started walking back to the Jeep, and realized I could have probably got all this for even cheaper online, haha.

I didn't go for the sale, I simply needed some cords for my new gaming room setup. It was only when I turned the corner and saw sales signs everywhere and a half-cleared out store did it hit me. I got the last cable and converter on my list, so stock was going fast.

Still, prices aside, I will miss being able to go to a place that has video and audio cable needs when I want it now, without waiting a week or so for eBay purchases.

I will say this, they could have honestly kept their high prices and survived if they had just stocked the right stuff. I remember when I was a kid, you could go into a Radio Shack and buy everything you ever needed to build a computer. They had multiple colored LED lights, too. Towards the end, they carried nothing. A few over-priced cables, some RC cars, a couple cell phone choices, and a needlessly over-priced random HDTV in the back.

They said one of the locations near me will stay around. So Radio Shack isn't completely dead/converted to Sprint, I guess. Still, kinda sad to see another store I grew up with kick it.

  9. When I was a kid, I played Centipede maybe once or twice, and never paid it any mind until I owned a copy for my Game Boy. It was fun, but I don't think I really enjoyed it all that much, and because of that, I haven't played the game since.

Centipede came with my XEGS, and it was the last game I chose to boot up, simply because I never thought I liked the game too much.

Boy was I wrong! More so than any other Atari game I can think of, I'm simply smitten with this! I've probably played at least 3 dozen rounds since we got home from our Valentine's day today, alone. I'm not sure if it's the XEGS quality sound, or the 2600-style joystick actually working well with a game for once (I usually find it horribly inaccurate), but something is really engaging about this and I'm hooked!

Have you guys ever come across a "popular" game you shunned for whatever stupid reason and come back to and realized what you had missed? Anyone else play the 400/800 version of Centipede around here?

  10. So, having a new XEGS 8-bit Atari computer, I'm really digging into the library. Choplifter just came today, and I'm glued! But there's one game that stands above all the rest. That's Robotron 2084 (I'll be 99 years old if I see the day, haha). And unlike oh-so-many home versions of Robotron, this one at least attempts to do the control right.... kinda. If you plug in an Atari joystick into player 1 slot, another into player 2 slot, and set the joysticks in the tray that's apart of the box the game comes in, you can have dual joystick control.

There's some problems here, though. 1. Most don't have a box. 2. If you have a box, you probably either don't want to be rough-housing it or it's too brittle to work right. 3. 2600 controllers simply aren't the most accurate things in the world, and it's just not the same, control wise.

Otherwise the game is awesome. The graphics are good for an Atari 8-bit game, and the sound... the sound is where it's at!

But the control is just not perfect. I've come up with the perfect solution. Years ago, I had a Virtual Boy go bust on me. A friend of mine took it for parts, and I kept the controller. I've literally had no use for the thing until this week.

It's the only controller (that I can think of) that has 2 d-pads, one for each hand, and has plenty of fire buttons. So, the controller is being modded so that the controller outputs to two 7800 controller port connections. Player one, and player two. The left d-pad is player one, the right d-pad is player two.

In addition, so that I can play other games with the controller, B & A will be fire 1 and fire 2 for player one, and L & R will be fire 1 and fire 2 for player two. So no matter how I want to control a game, I'll have a way to play it, with (in my opinion) the best dpads Nintendo ever produced.

I love this controller, and it's quality far outshines the system it's attached to. I think it'll live on well with my XEGS, and be better put to use. It should be done in a bit, and I'll show you all once its done. SO excited, and I can't wait to play Robotron with this thing!

  11. Awesome, Gredler! I love those games, and I know you will too,. If you ever need help with the modding of the Xbox just PM me bud.

Btw, it's not listed, but there will be an import Dreamcast system and controller for sale for a meager 20 bucks. Just don't need her as my American DC is now modded, so figured I'd pass it on for cheap. Very clean, if there are any scratches they're not noticeable, not yellowed, and the controller is in perfect shape.

  12. You took what Austin said the wrong way. He wasn't attacking you. He's just not that kind of guy. He was just saying you probably wouldn't like it and you would just end up getting rid of it.

If you saw his other posts (including all the ones that have been deleted by mods and the ones on my other forums, like my for sale forum) he's made it perfectly clear that he meant much more than just that. If he wants to , he can feel free to PM me and tell me that himself (which he's made no effort to do). Otherwise, the plethora of posts he's made on every active thread of mine says differently to me.

I don't get it. I've never had any issues with the guy over the many years we've both been here. Maybe he had a bad night. Maybe he's the biggest n-gage fanboy and took me selling it so that I could finally get an XE to a personal level. I don't know, haha. That's his beef. Thanks for the post, bud.

  13. Sooo.. How about that N-Gage, man? I see you already sold it without playing it? So much for this thread, heh.

Yep, took a loss on the N-Gage because I had to pick up the XE that I had been looking for for years. What's the point of choosing the N-Gage over the XE right now when 95% of the systems and games on ebay are still brand new. I'll buy it later. For now, the Atari takes precedence.

Oh, and you've been reported for stalking my threads and for insulting my ethics, collecting habits, etc. If you can't stand the way I am, mute me and move on with your life. There's no need to make me a pet project to fill your free time.

  14. Ok, thanks! yeah that's a bit much!, thanks anyways - he seemed to raise the price when you inquired about it? Doubling it!, wow he must have done a finished sold auctions advanced search on ebay, lol Opinions will vary -every one has one! lolz. I think the Jaguar CD Player is cool, it has the Jeff Minter programmed VLM Virtual Light Machine for playing CDs and some cool games like BattleMorph, World Tour Racing, Primal Rage, Robinson's Requiem, Myst, Elansar, Phila, Hover Strike and the great Iron Soldier 2! with fmv's all of which are pretty decent as well as a host of homebrews. And I convert movies to run on it so I watch those too. You could get one at myatari.com or best-electronics-ca.com for $175, still. Ever since I got the Jag I knew there was supposed to be a CD add on for it with that big round indentation it has on top! I always leave mine plugged in.

Yep! iron Soldier 2 was the primary reason I really wanted one. The first Iron Soldier was one of the very few Jaguar games I liked. I'll look into best-electronics sometime, although I heard some iffy stories about that place, I might take the risk. Sorry I couldn't help you get another one for your collection. I'm sure that's exactly what he did, which is his choice. I'm sure someone will buy it eventually, as they're almost impossible to find any longer.

Thanks for the PM btw, I responded to ya. Have a good one, bud!

  15.

Childish insults aren't helping your situation either. And you know what I was taught as a child? Not to take advantage of others nor waste their time. It's a little something called "common courtesy and consideration". Try it some time.

Common courtesy is coming into my thread and insulting me? I'll remember that. Now please get off my back and judge your own life instead of mine.

  16. If I remember correctly there was a version of Lunar Lander that was published in ANALOG computing. You would need a flash cart to play it unless you type the code in yourself and save to disk drive.

Really? Wow, I need to find that! Haha, you guys are just trying to get me to get a flash cart. Dang, I'm really going to have to consider one now...

Right now, we're redoing the front living area and the XE will have front and center stage there, so I plan on playing this thing a LOT. Having one of my favorite (and sadly least ported) Atari games on it would make me a very happy gamer!

So you got the XE Game System referred to as the XEGS. I kind like the layout of this system but its a bit of an odd child in the 8bit arena.

Id look to get one of the SIO2PC connectors so you can easily enjoy almost the complete library of 8bit games. You'll need a PC wihtin USB cable range to do this.

There are also SIO2SD solutions which wont require a PC.

I'll look into this, thank you. I'm new to the 8-bit computing world, so I'm not really sure what you mean, but more games are always better. I grew up with a Tandy laptop, so while I had a few games, I didn't have anything quite this fancy. We had that thing until we upgraded to a Windows 95 Compaq Presario, haha, so lots of good times on that old thing. I still have it, in fact, after all these years! (for those who thing I sell everything :P )

Congrats, I love my XEGS. Tons of great games, mostly pretty cheap.

I'm curious, there are a couple games, like Choplifter, that are much more expensive than most other titles. Is this due to it being graphically superior to the 400 atari release? I really want that game, but I'm just not sure it's worth the cash since I have a superior SMS version 5 feet over to the left.

  17. After thinking about it, I don't think I'll bite on the flash cart on this system. There's something really exciting about going store to store and finding one of these in a stack of Atari 2600 carts, haha. That and since I've never owned the system before, it's kinda nice having the real thing with the real artwork. Here's to hoping I stumble across a Choplifter and Battlezone one day, as they're my favorite games from Atari. It's a shame Lunar Lander wasn't made for this, that would have been a great time.
