@Atariboy. Yep that's what I meant
. Makes me more excited for their next gen hardware than anything else. Could care less about this system itself though
. So does this mean the ammibos will need some clunky scanner for non new 3dses? For a portable wouldn't that be kind of annoying.

Can you explain more about the laser? I have my TurboDuo being recapped right now, but not the laser. It's a NOS one and it's barely been used, would the laser still need to be replaced? How hard is that to do?
Not hard. You can find replacement lasers on eBay rather easily, and cheaply. Supposedly the same type of laser (not the same build.. better built) was made MUCH later for other applications. So it isn't NEC's, it's by Hitachi, but it works inside it and is the same size/shape.
The lasers were just poorly built. You have to remember, that was early for CD technology, and these manufacturers were trying to build their CD based systems as cheap as possible because they knew gamers wouldn't blow 500 dollars plus for a system with CD tech in it. This lead to parts that simply don't last.
If you're getting the caps done, contact your modder and have him put in a new laser while it's opened up. Seriously, you WILL have a problem if you don't. Just a matter of time. Those parts just don't last like they should.
Here's a link for ya, bud:

We know nothing about Nintendo's handheld successor to the 3DS line, let alone that it has a 2nd analog stick. Even if it does, why is it important that this 3DS revision and a handful of software support a 2nd analog stick?
They're just standardizing the Circle Pad add-on. I don't think it's particular significant or will lead to many more games supporting the feature.
Why would they go backwards? Sorry, just curious on your opinion here, not trying to be mean or anything. Genuinely curious. They obviously see a need for a second joystick (like everyone has seen now in the gaming industry). Why would you go back to just one after introducing a second stick? Heck, the Wii U has a second stick (as opposed to the Wii). Why go backwards?

Panzer Dragoon Orta. It's the reason why I got an Xbox all those years ago.
NICE. Have you seen the limited edition Orta Xbox system? I've always wanted one. Damned near impossible to find.... never seen one in person.
Not the biggest original Xbox fan, to be honest. I only like a couple games for the thing. But I'd really be more than proud to have that system sitting on my shelf. One day...

I feel these are mostly positive changes.
Kim Kardashian's mobile "game" that does nothing more than ask for microtransaction after microtransaction (some 50-100 dollars!) is the best selling game on the app store and google play. This is NOT a good thing, haha.

He has a voice! And a face! Who would have ever thought?!!

Well I'm not R2-D2, haha

Take a few minutes and watch. IGN article link and my video below. What do you think?

I've seen enough reviews to see this is a great system. Got one with a coupon code for 119 shipped. That's impulse-buy price territory.

I don't know, I'm torn on this. I don't mind using emulators, and in many ways they have their advantages (higher resolution, save states, etc). But I can't say I've ever "preferred" to play any game that way.
Light games with a mouse are boring. As are single stick arcade shooters. The Lost World and Star Wars Arcade for instance are both horrible in emulation, as the challenge is all but gone.
I think the best time for emulation is with a portable. Having multiple systems in your hands on the go has to be the best thing about emulation I can think of. And in that situation, I can think of countless games I prefer in that regards.
However, while I've tried over and over to "switch", I just can't. I have usb controllers that look and feel like those from the real systems. I just can't get over the feel of sitting at a PC versus on a couch. Playing through loading a rom vs pushing in a cart. Games seem to lose their value when I just have a mega list of them to scroll through. Where as if I buy a used cart or disc, I feel proud to own it and display it on my entertainment cabinet.
Still, like I said, playing these on a JXD s7800b while on the cough while the wife watches cable on the TV I use for games is a life saver. Heck, if the virtual console was better on the Wii U, I'd be happy with the gamepad doing the same thing. That's honestly the only reason why I've turned to emulation and the JXD. Nintendo's laziness.

Currently not playing anything
.I have a massive collection of import GameCube games now, but the system hasn't come in. That and my RGB N64 doesn't have a scart adapter yet, and the N64 is by far my favorite system to play right now.
On the plus side, I got to watch a couple movies for the first time in months.
Ordered that JXD, though. Can't wait for that!

I've been enjoying the multicolored Shy Guys. He's my favorite racer so far in the line up, so that works well for me. Also, the silver arrow Merc is really nice. I really like how in anti gravity mode, the grill and vents light up blue.

Repeating my comments from KLOV (sorry for the repetition)....
I love my 3DS XL but I really don't find anything compelling in this new machine.
Second analog stick - barring any amazing new games that will make use of this I don't see this as a big advantage. None of the games that need a second stick thus far are very appealing to me. And it looks fairly bad in implementation.
Besides, I got Wii Motion Plus and did anyone support that? Nope.
Wider viewing angles - my guess is this doesn't mean a sweeping new range of viewing, more likely if you sit at specific places you can see the 3D.
Personally I won't be playing at odd angles, I will still hold it straight ahead.
Extra shoulder buttons - see my Wii Motion Plus comment above, also these look to be in a bad position.
Built in NFC - I don't see a lot of portable use for Amiibo, I could be wrong
Faster processors - okay this could be significant, maybe. Assuming the new device sells really well and depending on what games come out that "require" the faster processor I will hold off in dismissing this as a must-upgrade feature.
So far, my present 3DS XL has nothing to worry about.
A few thoughts.
1. The improved 3D is a VERY important upgrade. I don't really know what games you play, but any action type title is near worthless with 3D on as you have to keep the damned system nearly frozen dead center. Street Fighter, Starfox, etc.... forget it, I always start "seeing double" as I play every once in a while as the 3D effect just goes barely out of perfect center. Another thought is showing your friends the screen for a few seconds. Ever notice when you turn the system around to show the system, the first thing they do is jump back startled because the image is screwed up as you're not turning the device towards them perfectly centered to their face? Happens to my wife and my father all the time. It would be nice to be able to show off what's on screen in perfect 3D, even if I'm not aligned up with them perfectly when I turn the system away from my face and towards theirs.
2. The C stick is very important. Not for the 3DS... for it's successor. But it's nice to see that they included it here as it's now all but confirmed it'll be on the successor. That and 4 triggers are here now. 4 triggers is something not even the Vita has. I'll agree with you that they don't look to be in the best of positions, but if they're more for seldom use than action use (think bumpers on a controller instead of triggers, which are used all the time) I don't see a problem with the slight reach. Heck they did it on the Classic Controller on the Wii. So I like they've got the leg up on that, and finally have a portable with perfect 1:1 controls as their home consoles. The stick looks like it'll function just fine. It's not for precision work like moving your character, but simply for quick adjustments for a camera. You might not play games that use dual sticks, but it doesn't mean dual sticks aren't important to game play of many genres, FPS, TPS, and 3rd person adventure games especially. Also, the Wii Motion Plus has come in handy quite a bit. Heck, you can't play TLOZ SS without it...
4. The DSi had a faster processor, too. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll see a huge upgrade, and this late in the game, just like with the DSi, I doubt you'll see many games taking advantage of it. Much of that power will go towards it's eye tracking system that improves it's 3D functionality, I'm sure.
5. I agree. Your XL is more than safe, as the 3DS in general is not dead. Unless you NEED "new 3DS" games, like the GB Color or DSi software before it, you'll be more than content with your older model. This is no more important than those other two minor updates.

In Japan there was an exclusive Sailor Moon fighting game. A burned copy of it works on the US 3DO though.
FYI, I have the retail copy. Works on a US system. It is NOT one of the games that needs to be played on a Japanese system!

Guys and gals, I have a controller that needs to be modded to work on another system by the same company. I think it should be possible, but I can't do this as I don't have the knowledge and know how.
I'm willing to pay well for the job (and have the two controllers ready to ship). Please PM me for more details. Not something I want to blast out to everyone on the forums until it's done...
Thanks.

This is THE game I'm excited about for the year when it comes to my Xbox. Both PS4 and Xbox One honestly have been disappointing thus far. This beta however floored me. I can't WAIT to play this game, and I'm happy to say I got a limited edition.
Might have to call in "sick" that day...

-
Long and short, if you're 30 years old or older, you all know this is a half way system like they've done many times before.
If your 3DS still works, keep truckin' till the successor is announced. Which in this day and age of portable technology, might not be as long as you think.

US DC sold!
Thank you! PMs sent out for those waiting. -
While this might seem stupid to gamers, you have to understand ... They've probably gotten most 3ds owners to buy more than one 3ds. Can't say that about most systems. They sell a bajillion handhelds. Ever wonder why?
Personally, I won't buy one. They released the dsi xl a half year before unveiling the 3ds. I wouldn't be surprised if at most this system gets a couple dozen exclusives.
I think its their way of getting the 'Wii' powered handheld out of the way so their next handheld can be an HD system.
That way they can make their cash from Wii ports, cash in, and move on.
I don't ever fall for these half way points Nintendo offers. I didn't buy a GB color. I didn't buy a dsi. Neither will I buy this.
For 119 bucks I got a jxd s7800b. I can play all my Nintendo games on the go plus have an infinitely more powerful piece of kit till Nintendo's real next gen portable. I'll be content till then.

Hey man, not trying to be mean or anything but I'd rather pass on shipping it to Brazil. Didn't realize before where you were from. Ice only ever shipped three things to Brazil. Two times they were lost (aka stolen). The third it was destroyed. I don't have the best of luck with Brazil's post...
-
Based by your nick, I feel inclined to trust you - hehe. Is it available? US$ 40 shipped to US is possible?
Doesn't include shipping. But I'd get it as cheap as possible.
-
Just trust me. There's a reason why its rare. The steering just feels....right.

Is there any particular advantage to using a Japanese 3do over a North American 3do? Just curious.
Literally a small handful of games that can't be played on an American system. To be honest, other than Swords and Sorcery, nothing really comes to mind that's really quality. I'll most likely NEVER use the Japan only function of this Japanese 3DO of mine, but I got it almost by accident, so now I'm +1 system. That's really all it is. As a HUGE 3DO lover, I'd have been more than happy with my American 3DO for the foreseeable future. You'd be A'OK with the American one, for sure.

Ok guys and gals, a few things that have to go.
Rare Dreamcast Agetec steering wheel. This is the "first party" wheel for the DC, used on games like Sega Rally 2 to make them not control like complete poo
. Seriously, both Sega Rally 2 and Daytona USA feel completely different (for the better) with the wheel. Great shape! $30Dreamcasts! Ok, I have an import Dreamcast with the Rev 0 internals and hallow shell instead of a modem (just like a Rev 0). Plays Japanese games only. Comes with controller and VMU, no power cord, but I'll include a VGA adapter! Fantastic shape! $35
Lastly, a Rev 0 American system. Comes with power, av cord and controller. Again, Rev 0 systems are rare (think kiosk/developer units) that have metal fans, heat sinks and heat pipes inside, plus a more reliable drive. The thing should NEVER break. Fantastic shape! $503DO American FZ-10 system. No controller, all cords included. I'll have a picture up later, but the thing is in immaculate shape. If I didn't have a Japanese system, I'd keep it. $45I have 120 clear full thickness DVD cases. These have the clear "sleeve" for cover art. No different than any DVD case other than that they're clear. Use them to replace game cases, or make "modern" case art for older disc based games you no longer have cases to. I can sell them all, or in batches of smaller quantities. $15 for all 120. Serious deal!
PNY 32 GB SDHC full size card class 10- $15
Lexar 16GB SDHC full size card class 6 - $10
Black Hori N64 controller in MINT condition. No rough joystick feel, perfectly smooth. Not a single scratch. Seriously guys, looks brand new. Black was a very rare color for the Hori controllers, hence the price. $70
My entire N64 collection. I'm honestly not entirely sure how to sell this. However, if you want to purchase all of them, I'll cut you a huge break on the price. I'd personally prefer this. Play them, sell them and profit off me, I could care less. Buying them all together would be $325 shipped (basically a few bucks a cart). If it doens't sell as a lot, I'll be putting their worth price next to every cart.

New 3DS & 3DS XL coming
in Modern Gaming Discussion
Posted
You don't need to spend 200 dollars on a new 3DS. But they know that in this smart phone world, where tech is released every year, they have customers who want the latest and greatest... even if it doesn't actually give them much new.
I think it's one of those, "If people will buy it, why not" senarios. As long as you don't get suckered in, and you're happy with your current model, you're good to go.
And kinda on topic - not - really, I kinda wish Nintendo would hire a lot more designers to make Wii U 1st party games. I mean, heck, if 3rd party support is in the toilet, they need more than 2-3 releases every 6 months.
