  1. So does F-Zero X have noticeable graphics improvements, like Star Fox and SM64 did?
  2. I recall a time after it came out that it I saw it marked down to $19.99 on the shelves at TRU, and they sat there for a while at that. I was tempted, but it sounds like an insanely hard game.
  3. If you like this paper mario game, you should like the others. The biggest difference between the Wii game and the N64 and Gamecube versions is that the others have turn-based combat. There is also a lot more emphasis on badges to enhance abilities as well as items seem to be more useful. And of course the 2D-D3 "flip" is uniquely Wii. I have not finished SPM yet, but I felt the story was a bit more developed in the other versions, especially the N64. It is essentially more of the "save the princess" type of story, but if you like SPM, you should like the others. I think Paper Mario is a VC game now, and that would be an easy way to go.
  4. I enjoy a good RPG, but haven't played one for quite some time. I admire the people that can get through a game without using a strategy guide. For me, most RPGs became an exercise of working through a strategy guide/walkthrough. Some of the things you were supposed to do or find, like you pointed out, were almost impossible without a guide. Back in the days of the NES and Before the days of the Internet, I remember calling the Nintendo hotline for a few tips on getting through a game like Dragon Warrior or Willow. One of the more frustrating aspects of an RPG for me is talking to all the townspeople and entering the houses. How realistic is that to just randomly enter houses and start searching them?? Or if some old lady is in the house, don't you think she would be like, "WTF!! A group of armed strangers entered my house!! Haven't you heard of knocking?! HELP!!!!".
  5. So no YouTube either? I was considering getting this, but thought I would wait until I heard some feedback about it. Might be nice for e-mail, but doesn't sound overly useful.
  6. A huge factor is convenience though. I have most, if not all, of the VC games on cartridge already, but don't have the space or desire to hook them up to my big TV set up. The ability to use the wireless Wii control is very compelling also. My couch is across the room from the entertainment center and I don't want a bunch of extension cables scattered around. The "save state" feature is also great. I can play a quick couple of minutes on a game and it will be exactly where I left it when I come back to it later.
  7. From the Nintendo press release on hitting the 100th game in the VC library: Wow, 1000 games being downloaded every hour. Do the math on 4.7M games at an average of $7.50/game (split the diff between NES @ $5 and N64 @ $10). No wonder they have Mario hitting coin blocks when you download a game! That is what it must sound like to Nintendo *KA-CHING*!
  8. Welcome to the world of Paper Mario! I am playing through this right now and it sounds like I am almost exactly where you are at in terms of chapters. I was originally concerned when I heard this was more like a Mario platformer game than a Paper Mario game. However, after having started it I really does still feel like a Paper Mario game. The biggest difference is they took out the turn-based battle system and everything happens real-time. But the dialog, gaining abilities through partners, and puzzle solving is still very much Paper Mario. I can definitely see where the Paper Mario world could be annoying. The conversations can be long-winded. I do like some of the humor and almost inside-joke references, including occasionally referring to the player playing the game. I do think the Wiimote works well for this game and like how you mainly use it like a traditional NES gamepad. I would not have enjoyed "giving the Wiimote a flip to jump, or something like that. My biggest complaint is probably that I have needed to refer to GameFaqs a couple of times. I also was stuck on how to kill the dragon. There was another part where you had to jump in an area 10 times to make something appear. WTF??? If you have played and enjoyed previous Paper Mario games, this is more of the same but with some interesting new twists. If you are new to the Paper Mario "experience" it is probably a love it or hate it thing.
  9. I guess I am a Nintendo fanboy, and proud of it. And an Atari fanboy. And a Sega fanboy. And a Colecovision fanboy. And an Intellivision fanboy. And a Sony fanboy. And a Vectrex fanboy. I am a video game fanboy! You have obviously stated your opinion of the "pos Wii" and since you are boycotting the system you won't be buying one, so WHY DO YOU GIVE A SHIT??? The only "clueless gamer" I am seeing is YOU. There is no way you were asking a serious question, you just wanted a rise out of people. Did that satisfy your trolling needs for now?
  10. Super Paper Mario did a system update as well for me. Strange.
  11. BINGO! It's his sworn duty to fuck with the "Nintendo fanboys" who are by far the worst fanboys out there. You are just feeding the troll, and the sig is part of his bait.
  12. While fairly different from the arcade version, I have to say I enjoy the Intellivision version the best. It seems to have a nice difficulty level, at least for my skill, and I like the variety of the levels. Like many Intellivision games, you can pick the speed you want to play at, which I like as well.
  13. This only works at a location that has a "DS download station", like a Best Buy or Gamestop. You just go in to the store, fire up your DS, pick the DS Download Play option, and you will be able to pick what game you want to download. It is like downloading any DS game that supports download play (like a multi-player session of Tetris). That game only stays on the DS as long as you don't turn the DS off. The games are usually just demos (like the first level or so) but give you a good chance to try before you buy. I usually get funny looks from the Gamestop employees when I download games in the store. They make me feel like I am stealing something. If the Wii had a DS download channel, that would be awesome.
  14. Beachhead on the C64 was a blast! This looks very interesting. Is there an image or ISO floating around for this (one that could be burned to a CD for play on a modded PS1)?
  15. This is the part I don't get. It really must be a different mentality or personality trait that is just so foreign to me that I just can't comprehend it. It must be like people that get their jollies pulling wings off flys or bullying people. They need to feel superior or better than somebody. There is no "winning" against these types, and they thrive off any responses. They WANT the pot to keep stirring so they can have their "fun". You can throw the term "fanboy" around all you want, but it is just another way to jab at people. I'm not a fanboy, as you are using the term. I have and enjoy the Wii so I come to a dedicated Wii sub-forum to discuss it. Not to get my kicks getting people bent out of shape. I also enjoy and have many other systems. Before I got married and had kids, I proudly set up my many systems and played them all. Now I have to be more selective and get the most out of what I have and have the space for. At the moment, that happens to be the Wii (which I'm grateful for the Virtual Console so I can easily play many of the games that I ironically have boxed up in storage). I also have a MAME cabinet that loaded with console emulators so I can get my quick fix on the classics. I really would like to have an xbox 360, no question about it. I have enjoyed the chances I have had to play the PS3 over at MegaManFan's house. I'm a gamer, and have been since the days back in the early 80's. I have pretty much every Atari system, short of the Jag/Lynx era (including a 2-port and 4-port 5200). If I was to be called a "fanboy", it would have to be a fanboy for all systems (well, I did get rid of the boxed Channel F and dozen games I had). I can't believe I let myself get riled up again by yet another jerk just trying to get his kicks. You got me. Good for you.
  16. You're hilarious. You really need to take that shit on the road. Seriously. Between that tired "fanboy" act and the "boycott Wii because it's killing babies mommies" you would knock them dead.
  17. I just can't understand that line of thinking. Why do you get off on this? You love to argue for the sake of arguing? What a twisted fuck you are. You are not making a contribution at all when you do this. It's a Wii forum dumbass. Of course people are going to be somewhat zealous and feel strongly about the Wii on a Wii-specific forum. Get a clue.
  18. Is that supposed to even remotely look like a Wiimote? Are you just blind or stupid (or both)? Yeesh.
  19. I DO "get" the DS and I love it! The touch screen isn't used by all games. Some games don't use it at all. Some games do use it heavily and it does work well (such as Magnetica, Star Fox, and Cooking Mama). One thing I enjoy is the WiFi capability. It's a blast playing games online. My wife got a DS and we will play wireless games together. We play a LOT of Clubhouse Games. It is a great 'pick up and play a quick game' device. As with practically any system, there is going to be a lot of shovelware to wade through. Do some research before picking up a title. I also have taken advantage of the DS download stations to 'try before you buy' games. It would be wonderful if the Wii offered a DS download feature in the future.
  20. IMO the choice hands down should either be the Intellivision I or III. The Intellivision II controllers are VERY cheap and shell out much easier than the I or III's do. I never understood what the appeal of the removeable controllers on the II were. They can be swapped out on the I or III, if need be, by just unscrewing the case (the controllers have an internal connector to the main board). There are a lot of cool games besides Utopia too. Dreadnaught Factor is a blast. Give Burger Time a try too.
  21. BRAVO Crossbow!!! I would just add "don't let the door hit you in your ass on the way out".
  22. BINGO!!! Now you see the light. So why single out Nintendo for doing what every body and their dog does? So there isn't going to be another Jak & Daxter game for PS3? By the way, Dreadnaught Factor on the Intellivision was far superior to the 5200 version.
  23. Or because they add a 2nd console in another room, or want the upgraded version and give the original to a relative, or are not early adopters and hold out (like I did for the DS Lite). It doesn't have to be because "their idiots" (I put that in quotes as it is ironically hilarious misspelling "their" when calling others "idiots". Considering your avatar of an Atari 5200, it is funny that you dis Nintendo for sugar coating re-releases. The 5200 is just a lame attempt at re-releasing the 2600 catalog with questionably improved graphics and a suck ass controller. Oh boy, Pac-Man, again... Yay! Breakout with an analog joystick control.
  24. I couldn't resist. I pulled down Star Fox 64 so I could check out the enhancements. It does look "cleaner". Edges are much sharper and it just looks better. The polygons are clearly defined, so they didn't mess with the actual program. As indicated in a previous post, they must be using different filters and anti-aliasing. Still, the overall result is pretty nice!
  25. I just received the latest Nintendo Power yesterday, and while it is a pretty much an extended Nintendo ad, it did have some interesting news items. WiFi games coming to Wii - Finally there are a couple WiFi-enabled titles coming. Pokemon Battle was no surprise, but I didn't know the Mario Strikers game was going to support WiFi. That raises my interest in Mario Strikers considerably, and gives me hope we will start seeing more WiFi games coming. Enhanced graphics on N64 VC games - An article claims that the graphics on Star Fox 64, as well as other N64 VC titles, are improved over the originals. Screen shots of Star Fox were shown and they looked pretty impressive. Can anybody with Star Fox comment on this? I played this title to death on the N64, but may get it again if it looks nicer. And while not a Wii topic, I thought it was pretty cool to see an updated version of the old Epyx game "Impossible Mission" coming to the DS. Looks like the original, with hugely updated graphics.
