You kids wanna get a little high??

The "variety" of the PS3 and 360 consoles seems to be a lot of FPS games variations. If you categorize Nintendo as limited to "kiddie" or movie licensed games, you have to categorize the PS3/360 as a constant churn of WWII/space/future earth FPS games, with some GTA knock-offs thrown in for variety. To each his own. All I know is my family has never been this involved with a game console than with the Wii. It has been a blast playing as a family. Not too many complaints about the graphics yet.

VC games are by far getting the most play on my Wii. It's just great that I don't have to have all these other consoles hooked up to my main TV/entertainment center yet I get to play them so conveniently. I got them playing on a nice big flat screen CRT with sound thumping out from a nice stero system. I have been playing the hell out the following games: Mario Bros. Donkey Kong Country (is this game hard or am I just really this bad?) Super Mario World Alien Crush Today I just downloaded Streets of RAGE. Awesome 16-bit brawler action. These are games I missed "back in the day" and it is great to have a chance to play them. I have downloaded others too, but I am just playing the crap out of this list. The classic controller is great and IMO a must-have. I also really like the way you can save a game just by going back to the Wii menu. Nice! What are some of your favorite VC games? Has anybody filled up their memory yet? And if you were looking for a nice way to check out a VC game before buying it, go the following link. It has screen shots and a video clip of game play: http://wii.nintendo.com/virtualconsole.jsp

I've actually been experiencing more of the "error loading disc" messages. You have to turn the console off and try loading it again. Seems to do it most with Gamecube games however, and I don't believe it has done it to me with any Wii discs (though I have been playing more GC games than Wii so far). I registered my Wii with Nintendo, which gives you an extra 3 months warranty, so hopefully if it goes it goes soon!

VC games on the Wii have been getting the most play from me. Probably second is various DS games, as the DS is very handy for a quick pick up and play game fix. Wii: Mario Bros. Donkey Kong Country Alien Crush Zelda: Twilight Princess Gamecube (via Wii): Karaoke Revolution DS: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrows Clubhouse Games

Holy Crap! They were way ahead of schedule!
Bivotar replied to -^CrossBow^-'s topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
The update is significant and worth the effort. It is much more "polished". -
Having played and enjoyed every Mario RPG game (I'd lump the Mario & Luigi sagas in with Paper Mario) so far, I'm for sure going to pick this up. So is it pretty much a platformer, or are there still some RPG elements? I heard the battles are no longer turn-based. It is hard to imagine a Paper Mario game without the turn-based battles.

Boy is it easy to tell you have never played even one of these games with a statment like that. Total BULLSHIT comment, nothing more, nothing less. Mario Tennis is coming for the Wii? Sign me up!

How about "the same first-person shooters and Grand Theft Auto clones with the SAME controller?" Oh wait, that's Microsoft and Sony. JR Or check out the Atari 5200 or 7800 catalog. Oh boy, Pac Man and Centipede... again. Call them "sequels" or whatever, but doesn't practically every console suffer from the same issue? Along similar lines, think of the many Pac Man clones. Now we have FPS clones (oh boy, I'm fighting in WWII, now I'm in space, now I'm back in WWII...). And I really don't give a rat's ass if a console is considered a "flop" if I enjoy it. I loved my Gamecube (now replaced with a Wii) and it has more games than I will ever play.

I'd have to throw my vote in for the Intellivision version. I liked how you could control the speed of the game and also the variety of the boards. I probably just sucked at the arcade version, but I couldn't make it through many of the screens on the arcade. The Inty version has something like 7 levels before they repeat. Some other systems "looked better" (like CV and NES) but I didn't enjoy how they played. I'll admit I never tried Beef Drop though. It may be superior, but is it actually a "classic"?

I went to Game Stop last Friday to look around. While I was looking through used GBA games, a young couple came in. The clerks asked them "you aren't looking for a Wii by chance, are you?". The girl told them they were, but didn't expect to see one. The clerk pulled a Wii from behind the counter and asked them if they wanted to buy it. The stunned look on their faces was priceless! The couple said they had been looking since Christmas and had been to two Wal-Marts and a TRU that day. They had stopped at Game Stop just to look at games. I think the girl was going to cry and the guy just had this huge smile plastered on his face. After they left, you could tell the clerks were pretty pleased with themselves for making a couple people happy.

I can pass on TMNT and Dragon's Curse too, but I always thought Starfox 64 was a good game (probably the best of the series, IMO). I'll probably snag it at some point.

I hit Toys R Us this weekend and they had a bin of $9.99 or less games. Mostly PS2 stuff, but I was pleased to find some Gamecube games in there too. I snagged Karaoke Revolution ($10), Spongebob:Battle for BB ($5), and LOTR:Third Age ($10). Karaoke Revolution comes with a microphone. I had a blast playing it! Well worth $10. The GC section is definitely getting MUCH smaller at TRU.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow cheap at Best buy!
Bivotar replied to carpecarne's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
The exact same thing ALMOST happened to me. The bin had the greatest hits release of Dawn of Sorrow with a card that clearly said $9.99. I took it up to the register and it rang up $19.99. I had to ask them to honor the $9.99 price (which was a HUGE hassle as they had to go back and look at the card and then get a manager to approve the price change). Well worth the hassle. This is a very fun game!! -
I didn't forget that. So far every VC game I purchased I actually have the original cart for too. I just don't have the time/space to hook up multiple systems. It's all about the convenience for me. I was just wondering what games we are not likely to see hit the VC, due mainly to concerns about licensing.

I have been enjoying the VC games immensely, and have been playing them probably more than actual Wii games. I look forward to the Monday releases and there have been some real gems coming out. However, I wonder if we will ever see the likes of some games like the multitude of Disney SNES/Genesis games that came out. I had a lot of fun "back in the day" with games like Castle of Illusions and the Donald Duck (Quack Shots?) games. But I really wonder if there will be licensing issues with releasing these. Also games that are name branded or tied to movies. Just curious.

Thinking of getting an Gamecube any advise?
Bivotar replied to kevin242's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Unless you have the $80 or so readily available for a GC, I'd likewise suggest holding off for a Wii. Start scooping up the GC games while they are cheap and available. While not foolproof, a good way to get a Wii is to find a store like Target that is going to do a Sunday advertisement (ask them) and then showing up an hour or two before opening on Sunday morning. That is how me and the bro scored our Wii's, and have heard similar success stories. Since picking up the Wii, I have unplugged my GC. I have picked up 7" LCD and the battery pack base for it, and hope to take it on the road with me this summer. -
is somebody else here getting headache from playing Mario 64?
Bivotar replied to Steril707's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
No problems for me so far with Mario 64 on VC. I can usually play the 3D games just fine if they are 3rd person perspective, but almost ANY 1st person perspective will have me sicker than a dog faster than you can say "bring me a bucket". The weird part is I can play FPS games on a PC just fine. The console FPS games are what doesn me in. -
Play Wii DVD-R and DVD+R media Play Gamecube DVD-R and DVD+R media Do these features basically mean you can burn ISO images to DVD and play pirated games on the Wii? I'm a little surprised by this, if that's the case. I suppose pirating is already pretty rampant then, much like the Playstation days.

Next Gen Owners, Do You Like Downloads Better?
Bivotar replied to Gabriel's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I can only speak about VC on the Wii, but I have been playing more VC than store bought games. This really surprised me. I also own the original consoles and carts, but have long since packed them up in storage due to many "life issues". There is a convenience factor with the VC games that is appealling. No extra cords, switch boxes, or TV/monitors. BOOM, all right there ready to fire up, and I love how they stay paused when I stop playing. Sure, I wish they were cheaper, but I don't see the cost as a barrier. -
I think the trouble begins with "donkey punch"...

WOW! That is truly exciting news! Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to checking these games out. I have enjoyed spending some time on Wiicade.com and it should get much better. Nintendo Power even mentioned Wiicade in their latest issue. The "Big N" definitely has their eye on that site. I wonder what they think of this news?

Princess, I added you to my master list and your Mii's appeared, but in my Plaza and not the Parade! I don't see any way to get a Mii to go from the Plaza to the Parade. I think you just need to set your Mii's to mingle and not send the Mii's to the other contacts. They'll make the journey themselves. I would rather have the Mii's appear in my Parade so I can 'pick and choose' the ones to add to my Plaza, if need be.

HUGE SALE at Best Buy in the morning
Bivotar replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I couldn't resist the lure of $2 games, so I hit a nearby BB. I wasn't horribly surprised to find not a single game left in stock at that price. Oh well.
