Kudos to whoever created the "V" Mii. It was well done and immediately recognizeable.

Wii outsold PS2 in January AND February!
Bivotar replied to Gregory DG's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Possibly, but then again Sony to their credit didn't repackage the PS2 in a smaller white box and call it the PS3. <ducks> What was that? Sorry, I was just finishing checking the weather, my e-mail, playing a game of Donkey Kong Country, and waving my arms about in a session of Wii Sports training so I didn't catch that. The Wii is a Gamecube? Funny, I couldn't do all that with my Gamecube. -
Way to go!!! That's an awesome story. You had to be pretty jazzed, thinking you were going to return the game and ended up finally getting a Wii.

CTR is crazy fun when you have 4-people playing. Some coworkers and I would hook the Playstation up to the projection system in our training room and race over lunch hour. We would also play "You don't know Jack" with the multi-tap. Kind of fun, for a change.

Wow, what a week for VC releases! I really had a tough time deciding which to download first. Adventure Island was really calling to me, but finally DK Country won out. Both are games I missed out on originally. It's pretty cool to see some of Rare's pre-N64 stuff. I just want to pass on a big "thanks" to Crossbow for maintaining and updating the list of games. Your efforts are appreciated! I look forward to checking this thread out on Mondays and hearing what others think of the new games.

Here is some juicy VC related news....hehe...
Bivotar replied to -^CrossBow^-'s topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
The article hints at much more than Super Mario 2 Lost Levels. It sounds more like some of the Japan RPGs, if the translation could be done properly. Very interesting... -
I pulled down Super Mario World this week and have playing the heck out of it. I kind of missed the SNES era (was big in to NES, but switched sides to the Genesis when it came out) so I never had a chance to play Super Mario World. Dang, this is one fun game!!! Pure platform gaming goodness. I have said it before, but actually purchasing the game and having it available as a channel makes me play the game so much more than a ROM on an emulator. This is great.

The times that I have taken my DS to a shop that has a download station, I get funny looks from the employees. It makes me feel like I am stealing something! Plus you have to leave your DS on after you leave the shop and make the trek home to try the game out. It would be kick ass if I could download the DS demos from the Wii!

I think the "family miis" is going to be a hard issue to avoid. My brother has a Wii and I want my nieces/nephew miis to join the parade, and vice versa. By the nature of how this works, it is going to be hard to limit your parade to just AtariAge members, for example. I would have to think that eventually there will be some refinements to the Mii Channel that may allow you to set up buddies or something like that. There is some interesting potential there, but it is an evolving thing. I also have no clue who most of the people in the parade are either, but it is pretty interesting stuff. Did anybody get Luigi? Not the best likeness, but a good effort!

There is a teaser trailer at www.rareware.com for Banjo Kazooie 360. It looks amazing. I enjoyed Banjo Tooie a bit more than Banjo Kazooie. While still a collectathon, I thought Tooie was better constructed. I also even enjoyed the GBA Grunty's Revenge game (although it seemed amazingly short). This looks to be a prime example of one of the reasons Microsoft picked up Rare.

Congratulations! Be sure to add your Wii code to the list. My brother finally snagged his last Sunday. He had to show up early at a Target.
-
After calling around to Gamestop (only enough for pre-orders), Wal-Mart (sold out), and Target (not getting them in until Thursday), I finally found some at BestBuy. I actually picked up the last two they had on the shelves. One for me, and one for my bro who just got a Wii Sunday. It appears you have to play the games kind of sequentially to unlock all the games, starting with Target Shooting. Tanks is the last game to open, which unfortunately I wanted to play first! I needed the other remote, so this is a pretty good deal overall.

I could no longer fight the urge and picked up a classic controller this weekend. $20 isn't too bad, and I love the way it feels and works. I also picked up Super Mario World, which of course plays great with the classic controller. I am loving the VC ability of the Wii. I don't have a lot of games, but when you buy them and don't have a lot of them, I feel much more inclined to play them. Unlike a boatload of ROMs on a PC, I spend more time with the VC games. On a PC, I may fire up a game but will shut it down when I get killed.

I was curious if many Mii's are showing up in your Mii parades? I have 15 marching around, as of last night. How does that compare to your parades? This is kind of a cool feature. It's interesting to see these things show up. It's kind of like mice that move in to your game console. There could be some cool things eventually that involve Mii's. Some of the Mii's that are showing up are pretty cool. I did get a few "questionable" ones show up (such as $2 Whore and a big black guy with an offensive name).

Last night the wife and I were playing a game of Wii Sports Tennis. She uses some pretty extreme motions while playing (she REALLY gets in to it). She was doing a forehand, while I was doing a backhand, and she nailed me with the Wiimote on the side of my hand. I thought she broke my pinkie, but it seems it is only bruised. I have a big purple spot on the side of my pinkie, and it is pretty tender. This is the first time that I can recall being "injured" playing a video game! When Nintendo suggests 3 feet of space between players, I guess they mean it. I don't really mind, as I finally got the wife to play video games with me. It's a good time.

Touch Wii - The first online Javascript game for the Wii!
Bivotar replied to jbanes's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Pretty cool! Just played a game (and made this reply via the Wii). -
Wow, I have fallen in to that habit as well. After my shower I fire up the Wii to see if any more Mii's have joined the parade (I'm up to 9), check the weather, and I also do a quick check of my e-mail. I also try to do a little Wii Sports training mode in the evenings. It isn't much exercise, but it is some (and more than I would typically get in the evening). The Wii has ingrained itself more in to my daily routine than other consoles have. It is probably in part the "newness" of the system. Oh ya, and I play some games on it now and then.

That was my thought exactly. I think I'm waiting for Streets of Rage or Final Fight. A little side-scrolling beat 'em up would be fun, but Vigilante was just a little too primitive IMO.

Tingle has always bugged me. Wasn't he first in Majora's Mask? And isn't he really a "person" pretending to be a fairy? He had ballons that helped him float in MM, if I recall, and his father was lamenting his sons decision to be a fairy. Then in Wind Waker he was pretty much a greedy SOB. All that rupee collecting just so you could pay him... grrrr...

www.wiicade.com I've been doing a bit of youtube.com. The videos look "smoother" on my tv than they do on a pc monitor. And of course porn.

I had been watching the GBA players at Toys R Us. They still had quite a few in stock at $60 and I just knew they were going to clearance them. Sure enough, I went in last week and they were gone. They blew them out at $20 and I missed it.

Now that you have a Wii, your thoughts & games?
Bivotar replied to Mendon's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Okay, now that I FINALLY have a Wii I can post my thoughts here on the system. I have had it since last Sunday (my wife actually stood in line before Target opened to get one!) and I have been messing around with it quite a bit through out the week. My impressions are, this is the best Nintendo console yet! Set up: Setting up the console was a breeze. I did have some issues connecting with my wireless router, but a firmware update on the DSL modem fixed that (which was long overdue anyway). Games: So far I only have Zelda:TP and have only played it about an hour. I have a pretty big GC collection and those play great of course. The big surprise is Wii Sports. My wife and I have been playing the hell out of it, and she has NEVER played any games with me before! Bowling and tennis are our favorites. I also like boxing a lot. You actually get a pretty good workout playing some of these games. It is amazing to actually be playing games with my wife. I have actually been messing with the system and a lot of the options, probably as much as playing games. It's great to be able to check my e-mail, the weather, and whatnot via the Wii. I just downloaded a couple VC games and love it. I couldn't resist grabbing Sonic the Hedehog and just smiled the whole time playing it. The Wii remote feels like a classic controller. Good stuff. Overall: Dang, this is awesome. The PS3 and the XBox 360 definitely have their place. I hope to pick up one or the other. The Wii is what it is. It isn't the HD immersive experience of the PS3, but it is hella fun. I'm anxious for some Wii online titles and more games that utilize the controller. Kind of like the DS 'maturing', I think the Wii will come in to its own too. -
A sticky would be a good idea! I added my Wii code below. This could definitely be interesting! Along these lines, has anybody checked out www.wiicade.com? I saw it mentioned in a thread and checked it out. They are basically flash games you can play with a mouse, but are supposedly Wii friendly. Great concept, but the games seem pretty hit and miss on quality/fun.

I really enjoyed this game too, and wondered why it got such negative reviews. I played through it with both characters. It has a nice variety of action, although the driving parts were by far my least favorite. It probably doesn't hurt that it was cheap. Did you try any of the 'hacking'? That's kind of fun.
