  1. What does tiananmen square images have to do with the Dreamcast running Saturn games.
  2. This is the price that an "early adopter" pays. You can count on Nintendo releasing different colored versions of the Wii console. There will probably be a price cut eventually too. Maybe even the pack-in game will change. The DVD playback is completely a non-issue with me, so I'm going full steam ahead with the launch version. I would have loved to have a black DS Lite (and one without the hinge crack problem), but I got white DS Lite the weekend they came out. I knew they would come out with different colors, but I was an early adopter and made the sacrafice. If the DVD playback issue is a big deal to you, wait. You'll probably also have different color choices and maybe even a price break. But I'll have long since beat the new Zelda game before this new feature is offered, if ever.
  3. No, I'm not buying a Wii. But I think Santa is bringing me one, judging from some questions/hints from my wife.
  4. It's a good thing someone didn't call WTF a PSP ripoff of MarioWare. You can rip on the DS and Nintendo hand-held gaming all you want, but it is damn fun... IMO. It's also my opinion that the PSP is an overpriced piece of shit, but hey, to each his own.
  5. The Gamecube doesn't have Wifi built in, support for virtual console, DS connectivity. I love the Wifi games for my DS. One can assume the Wii will have some games that support this as well. It is more than a new controller.
  6. In case anyone is confused, arstechnica finally lifted the lid. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061031-8112.html I don't see how this news could be seen as a surprise. Despite your supposed NDA and inability to talk about, you made it quite clear that this was the case quite some time ago. There are still boatloads of Gamecube games I have yet to play or pick up. Many can be picked up used for next to nothing. I have an instant library of game for the Wii. And while I have many of the NES/SNES/N64 games that are offered as VC games, I haven't had any other systems hooked up for a couple years now. My son is just getting old enough to start playing video games and we are going to have a blast playing some of these games. I am a long time fan of Nintendo games. Whether it is games or movies, most popular franchises get sequeled. I'll gladly play another Super Smash Bros or Mario game. You want to play the new Zelda game? Get a Wii. If the Nintendo style of gaming isn't your thing, just don't get it. And personally I don't get the whole "who will win the next console war". Who cares? Give me some more of the games I like and I AM THE WINNER! It's not about better graphics for me. This "news" doesn't make the Wii any less a next generation system for me. BFD. I can't wait.
  7. Where did "everyone" let alone ANYONE mention Microsoft or Nintendo in this thread??? There is no mention of either until you decided to shit all over the topic.
  8. No. That would imply some sort of real upgrade which is non-existent on the DS. Wifi, a second screen (and a touch screen at that), 3D graphics, microphone, etc. don't qualify as an upgrade? Keep smokin' that crack buddy.
  9. BFD. You want to play the new Zelda game, you get the new system. Where is that a unique concept? As for calling the Wii "Gamecube 2", that's just flamebait. You would think a "developer" could keep the names straight. I suppose the DS should also be called Gameboy 2?
  10. G4 is hardly watchable any more for video game content. I'm sure they replay X-Play multiple times a day, but it is never in the stretches I get to watch. Just a lot of Man Show, Star Trek, and whatever. Is Judgement Day still on? Or Cinema Tech? If they are, they must put them in wacky hours. Used to be you could tune to them and catch something video game related. Now it's just crap. Spike TV and G4 might as well combine. Worthless.
  11. No. That's about it. The people who are excited about it are that way because they apparrently want games with awkward and shitty controls, and to rebuy the same damn Nintendo GameCube games all over again. And I suppose the people that are excited about the PS3 and 360 because the appearantly want to rebuy the same shitty FPS games regurgitated all over again but with prettier graphics. What a doink.
  12. There was a pretty comical "Flash Tub" on www.somethingawful.com which featured a whiney nerd complaining about Wii. Lots of the comments sounded vaguely familiar. Whiney Nerd Complains about Stuff
  13. BINGO! I could hardly get my new DS Lite away from my wife because she was hooked (and still is) on Sudoku. She likes this version better than the dedicated Sudoku title released a while back.
  14. Yes, I'm mad as hell about that one too. LOL!!!
  15. I don't recall any flicker in Intellivision Reversi. I would fire up this game occasionally and always thought it was fun. I enjoyed the fact that the board size was selectable. Definitely worth a couple of bucks if this is the kind of game you are after.
  16. The comparison to Intellivision Space Battle was what pushed me over the edge to buy this game. You are right! I played the hell out of Space Battle and this is a great update to that concept. I have been having a hoot with the game. Kind of strange to get use to the control, but I'm getting there. I did take it online and initally was just getting pasted. After some practice though I started getting a little better. Lots of fun so far!
  17. Several new empty DS game boxes were at Game Stop when I stopped in yesterday (Reserve Your Copy Today!) and Star Fox was included. The back of the box definitely indicates it supports wifi multiplayer dogfights for up to 5 people. Overall it looks more like a space-based shooter than anything else. Looks pretty cool overall.
  18. You might consider going back and picking up that used Metroid Pinball if you can get that one used for $19.99 as well. I picked up MP (it even included the DS Rumble Pak) and I seriously LOVE this game. Nice variety of playfields, with some you need to unlock, boss battles, the L and R triggers can be used for flipper control, and the touch screen will nudge the table. The Rumble really adds to the game as well. I played the True Swing Golf demo and want to pick that one up too, but haven't seen a used copy yet.
  19. I FINALLY finished up Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (played on the DS Lite). What a satisfying game! If you like the Paper Mario style of game, this one is a winner. Seemed a tad on the easy side (there was like 2 spots I needed to refer to a guide) and the boss battles weren't that tough, but still a fun game. I really thought Prince Peasly was going to end up being a bad guy though... After finishing that, I pounded on some Metroid Pinball. Dang, that game is FUN! I am just loving my DS Lite!!
  20. Coincidentally Rayman DS immediately popped in to my mind as one that would benefit from analog control. The d-pad is workable, but analog control would be nice. Is that control pad on the touch screen supposed to be an analog controller? Is it seriously supposed to work? I tried fiddling with it, gave up quickly, and went back to the d-pad. Speaking of this game, I was surprised to find it was a direct port of Rayman 2 from the N64. The textures are much more pixalated though, compared to the N64 version.
  21. I was playing "Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga" on my new DS Lite this morning. I have just over 8 hours in the game and am loving it. I never had a GBA, so the games seem fresh and new on my DS. I was doing a save (you know, where it tells you do NOT power your system off) and the DS battery died on me!!! I didn't notice that the power light was orange or flashing or whatever it does before it dies. I plug the DS in to the charger and turn it on. The saves were COMPLETELY wiped out. The only option available was "New Game". I am still just stunned. As much as I like the game, I'm bummed about the thought of having to start all over again. I might put this to the side for now and play something else. This is the first time I have ever lost a save file. I guess I should consider myself lucky, thinking back on all the games I have played and never had this happen before. Has anything similar ever happened to you? Do you just jump back in to the game, or is that cause for not playing it anymore?
  22. I really enjoyed the variety of the enemies in the NES version. It's been quite a while since I played it, but I seem to recall crystals and an assortment of other enemies, rather than just ships changing colors in the arcade. I also recall there there was some cheat that would give you a LOT of extra lives. I think this game would get more respect if it was called something like Gyruss II.
  23. My wonderful wife surprised me by picking me up a DS Lite as a "late birthday present" yesterday. It is AWESOME! I didn't have an original DS, so I guess I can't make a comparison, but I totally love it. The screens are so bright. It seems light to me, and very comfortable. I like the shiny finish, kind of like an iPod. I picked up several GBA games at a garage sale last week for $10 (including stuff like Mario Kart, Namco Classics) and I have been having a hoot playing them on the DS. Now to start getting some DS games...
  24. I vividly recall purchasing Fantastic Voyage at a bargain price ($10 or less) at a department store in either '82 or '83. I remember it well because I enjoyed the game a lot and was pleased I got it so cheap.
  25. This clip shows quite a few interesting things about the Wii. Playing Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii at E3 It gives a good glimpse of how the Wii remote is used to play a game like Super Mario Galaxy. But one of the big things that caught my eye was that the Wii retro controller is attached to the remote, so it is effectively a wireless controller! Pretty handy. It also shows how the demo unit was set up at that end of that looooooong waiting line to play.
