I have the Galaxian cartridge but I am still in the market for Space Invaders.

Give the cannon a facelift to look more like the arcade, make the mushrooms look like mushrooms and put legs on the centipede. This may not even be possible, but I've been dazzled by what has been created in other carts.

You Stink At These Games...

Yes- Berzerk is pretty tough and I always get smoked on Frenzy. -
Question: What void would a BBS fill versus what is already available, such as this Web site? If I were to start up a BBS, what content would be of interest?
-
Is this BBS still up to date? I read one of the messages of rolling back the date because the system was not Y2K compliant. .- The Assassin's -------------------------------------------2.0---. | ______________________________________________________________. | | | _____ ._____ ___ _ _ ___________________________| | | | / ___> |_ _ \ / _ \ / \ / \ | ____________________________/ | | | | ___ | |_| | | / \ | | | | | | |___ | | | ||__ \ | ._ < | | | | | | | | | .__/ Atari ST.. | | | |__| | | | \ \ | \_/ | \ V / | |____ .. forever! | | \_____/ |_| |_| \___/ \ / \_____ | | | V | | BBS runs under Atari | `---------------------------------------' | ST emulation. `---http://www.skeleton.org/bbsindex.html---' ----[ System News ]----------------------------------------------------------- [ 1 ] We joined the FidoNet! Defender I was playing the Colecovision cart last night and I would get killed in 1.5 seconds flat...and then again 2 seconds later... Final score = 800 I always sucked at this game - in the arcade and on the console. But like a masochist, I keep coming back for more.

Just get an Atari Flashback II - there's a great version on there... It looks like you could put this on a cart: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78065 Is the FB2 Centipede different from the original 2600 version? I don't believe there is...

I guess it would have been fitting if Walter Day had opened this museum in Iowa?
-
Maybe it died a quick death because it was controversial - but I played Death Race all the time at the mall back in the good ol' days. Maybe you could call it rare since there never was a long line to play it or perhaps the other kids were prohibited from playing it. But others call it rare because it is scarce. Also, help me peg the name of this game... It was a racing game that had to be made in the mid 70s. It had a vertical overhead view and had a green screen (which was probably an overlay) similar to this one http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9801 . But the one I'm talking about was a one player game and I remember the steering wheel was a bit bulky. It may have had a gear shift like "low" and "high." Also, it was a "stand up" game not a racing game where you would sit down in the cockpit. I'm sure this game was the inspiration for Activision's Grand Prix

If all they need is cleaning and they work fine then I think it's a good deal for less than 50 cents a cart. Heck, I see a lot of those carts selling for $3 a pop. Although there are quite a few bad games in there like Commando Raid and Grand Prix, games like Chopper Command, Asteroids and Berzerk are some of the ones that make up for it.

I've been thinking that an Evil Knievel game would be pretty cool. Make it like Human Cannonball where you have to take wind and distance (number of buses) into account to figure out how much throttle to give. And just like his old Harley road bike, if you don't hit the landing ramp just right, you fly off and bounce around like a rag doll (like he frequently did)! It will need to be more challenging than Human Cannonball (I hope). I was able to figure out that if you add (and I'm doing this from memory so I may be off a few) the number 37 to the wind speed your success rate will reach 99.999%.

Console versions better if they aren't arcade perfect
VectorGamer replied to AdeptRapier's topic in Atari 7800
I prefer them to be arcade perfect. My dad worked a lot so getting time at the arcade was limited. Now, there are no arcades in my area that have the classic games. -

What is this game like? I'm pretty sure that I have it but I don't have my C-64 hooked up. It's a two player game and each player has to jump up and catch these stars to make a peanut butter sandwich before "the snarfs" take them away. -

My wife will be thrilled to know that Peanut Butter Panic made it in the top 10! Last night's log: Centipede (7800) 30 mins Galaxian Arcade (2600) 15 mins Battlezone (2600) 15 mins We are really enjoying the team play of Centipede for the 7800. -
You mean you didn't download the attachment? Didn't try the work-in-progress binary? I think it looks better in motion. Folks have their own reasons, but two most common are "nostalgia" and "challenge." Yes, I went back to the page right after I posted it and downloaded the zip file. I have not run it yet. Again, I do appreciate the efforts of those creating new carts for these systems. I think it is great. I would just consider it a suggestion and not criticism.

Trogdor is working on it. Granted there's only one screenshot but it's not looking too hot. I don't mean this in a disrespectful way because I applaud the efforts of the folks that are writing these games and I don't bite the hand that feeds all these great carts that have been coming out (e.g. Medieval Mayhem). I have to ask why write the game for the 2600 instead of the 5200 or 7800 where they would have more machine to work with?
-
I think I may plan a road trip! Did anyone see the hours of operation? I could find them listed anywhere.
-
It would be great to see if someone could do a "Centipede Arcade" 2600 cart. Also, what about a port of Stratovox, Tempest and Star Castle?
-
It's unfortunate that you have to skip nine levels to get to a more challenging game play. But, the game is a repeat play for me - I just had hoped they could have delivered a better product. I'm going to build my own Galaga cabinet anyway...

Very well could be. The 4013 flip-flops (theres two of 'em) are the heart of the latch/unlatch circuitry on the 5200 for the power switch function. Btw they're not socketed. Thanks for the help, everyone. The replacement 4013s I ordered from eBay came in today. My system has one 4013 (in a socket!) near the power switch/light (there may be another elsewhere, but I didn't look). Popped it out, popped in a new one, and now it turns on and off properly! On a related note, does anyone need a replacement 4013 (I have 3 extras)? PM me...I could use one...

Do you have any plans of modding one with an MP3 player? -
Galaga is my all-time favorite game, so when I got the 7800 cart it was naturally going to be under my scrutiny. The timing on this game is all wrong! From stages 1-9, the aliens are sooo slow I could retreat to the pot for a few minutes, come back and still clear the screen before they begin their dive bombing routines. Additionally, the aliens come on to the screen in each stage way too early while the music is still playing. Then, if you happen to not clear the screen before the aliens dive bomb, when they do dive bomb it's at an unusually high rate of speed. The timing on the challenging stages are all wrong. The time lapse between the groups of aliens is like 15 seconds! Why couldn't they draw the shields on the screen that represent the stage numbers? I thought they would have enough machine to do this. The size of the text (e.g. for the score, challenge stage stats) reminds me of the font used in little tykes story books. The smaller size of the ship does not bother me, however. Despite all these differences, it still is playable and some of the alien flight patterns are not true to the arcade but I can appreciate that change. The timing of the game is bothersome, however.
