  1. i just would have figured that theres a lovecraft fan who also has some vcs programming skills out there, who would have made one by now.it would be interesting to see at least a lovecraftian text adventure along the lines of something like dark mage. hell id settle for a frankensteins monster hack with a cthulhu sprite lol.
  2. pretty much anybody who says atari games have bad graphics. imo theyre gorgeous, use your damn imagination. is it any wonder kids have no sense of history? they've been taught that entertainment is utterly disposable and you must be playing old stuff because youre poor and can't afford "t3h 3-siddy and cod 4". musicians don't produce albums anymore, they produce ringtones. movies are made to be illegally downloaded and deleted, why savor what you just watched? you didn't pay for it so its disposable. nobody reads anymore and anybody who does is usually derided. why should games be untouched by the willful ignorance that infects this country? hell, even gaming consoles are made to be disposable these days *cough cough 360 cough*.
  3. snapcraft, your last line summed up exactly why i'll never be a serious collector. its all well and good to have hermetically sealed, one of a kind items and all that. to have a collection of things to be proud of, i completely understand that. but it kinda amounts to a waste when you drop dead and everything you searched and scoured hours, days and weeks for ends up in a dumpster.pop that shrinkwrap and enjoy it now since it'll all amount to full garbage bags that your kids will be hauling to the dump. sorry to be such a downer on this lovely saturday, im just a realist.
  4. some people are simply completists who need everything to have the perfect collection. personally i wouldn't buy garbage games just to say i have something, but i completely get the "quest" mentality. some buy these games for resale value. all of us on here are collectors of some sort. i like buying games i had as a kid or that simply appeal to me, condition/resale value be absolutely damned, i just want the game.
  5. im 31. ive been gaming for about 25 years, from the 2600 up to modern systems. but within the past few months ive gone back to atari. my gf says its because im getting older and want to recapture my childhood. i think shes partly right. i want to return to a time when the world seemed simpler and games were more capable of capturing my imagination. im tired of played out war scenarios, angst, gore and alot of the things that are in modern games. im back to embracing a "childish" mentality in a way. "you play as a tank and shoot worms? awesome!" stuff like that will always be cool to me. i think the other part of the reason is that i just wanted to have fun with games again. oddly enough the angry videogame nerd brought me back to atari. i was watching a clip where he was playing frankensteins monster (a game i had never played until recently) and it just looked so cool to me. i looked at my shelf of killzones, god of wars, call of dutys, etc and decided that caging a monster was what i wanted to play, it looked fun to me. so i went on amazon, ordered a 2600 jr and here i am:having fun with games again. theres a sense of creativity, fun, purity and honesty in early games that will probably never be repeated in gaming again.
  6. by you telling him no, those games have become the forbidden fruit that no child can resist. hide the games when he comes over or lock the door to where theyre stored.
  7. thats hysterical considering were on atari age where 99% of the people here are playing systems that are 30-almost 40 years old and still work. if i seem flippant its because i am. i don't feel any sympathy for people who continue to support that piece of shit. buy a goddamn ps3 already and stop acting like battered women "but i luv t3h gamez". is any hunk of plastic worth a second of that frustration? your 360s will continue to fail until maybe one day you all smarten up and demand more from life than a failure prone turd.
  8. they just announced guitar hero 5, band hero (which comes with new instruments) and some dj game with a turntable. what is that, like 10 guitar hero games this year? on top of rock band beatles. ENOUGH!!!!! how many of these f*cking games need to be produced each year? dont get me started on the yearly call of dutys whose release dates you can literally set your watch by. how much money does activision need to milk from these already stale franchises? despite any quality these games may have, theyre shovelware. shoveled out the door multiple times a year to suck the money from the stupid. it has gone FAR beyond "if you dont like it dont buy it". garbage like this is part of the reason the industry collapsed in 83 and imo i hope it happens again. once again in the fall store shelves will be choked by this retarded shovelware and the ridiculous plastic fischer-price instruments. learn to play a REAL goddamn guitar already. skip guitar hero this year and buy something different already for christs sake.
  9. thanks for the recommendations. of all the games listed ive only ever played thunder castle on the intellivision lives compilation and it was awesome. im sure its even better on the actual hardware.
  10. what are the must have titles for the system? is there any type of homebrew scene? what are some good intellivision internet sites? thanks.
  11. its very good and very addictive. you play as a guy hanging on the outside of a building. you have to shimmy your way across the girders and climb the building, avoiding enemies and falling objects to collect a briefcase at the top of the current floor. it gets tricky fairly early on and requires skill. the graphics and sound effects are pleasant and it has a very addictive quality to it. i got it 2 weeks or so ago and i end up playing it on an almost daily basis. its a very solid and seemingly underrated game.
  12. yes. i played my copy of space battle which arrived today from the AA store. then i played some river raid and dreadnaught factor on the 5200.
  13. i sent an inquiry for a replacement to best electronics. its $30. are they generally dependable or should i look elsewhere?
  14. if not, there should be. something like "at the mountains of madness" would be perfect for a game or text adventure.
  15. whether they be actual games or some type of homebrew text adventure.
