im 31. ive been gaming for about 25 years, from the 2600 up to modern systems. but within the past few months ive gone back to atari.
my gf says its because im getting older and want to recapture my childhood. i think shes partly right. i want to return to a time when the world seemed simpler and games were more capable of capturing my imagination. im tired of played out war scenarios, angst, gore and alot of the things that are in modern games. im back to embracing a "childish" mentality in a way. "you play as a tank and shoot worms? awesome!" stuff like that will always be cool to me.
i think the other part of the reason is that i just wanted to have fun with games again. oddly enough the angry videogame nerd brought me back to atari. i was watching a clip where he was playing frankensteins monster (a game i had never played until recently) and it just looked so cool to me. i looked at my shelf of killzones, god of wars, call of dutys, etc and decided that caging a monster was what i wanted to play, it looked fun to me. so i went on amazon, ordered a 2600 jr and here i am:having fun with games again. theres a sense of creativity, fun, purity and honesty in early games that will probably never be repeated in gaming again.
