  1. im usually fairly easy to please but i know a crap game when i play one and i don't get that feeling from this game. amateurish? yes. crap? imo no. realistically if this game were some type of cynical cash grab wouldn't they charge more than $15 and knowing the collector mentality, package it a little nicer than a bare cartridge and an instruction sheet? imo a cash grab is signed/numbered, "limited edition" balls to the wall hermetically sealed packaging and a $40-$50 price tag. this is just some dudes and their lil game. you guys are infinitely more knowledgeable about matters such as this than i am so i bow to your wisdom and judgement. im just a small time "for fun" collector who is just happy to walk away with a new game that didn't cost me a fortune, at the 1st game convention ive ever been to. im sure time will teach me to separate the scammers from the good guys but as we stand im still naive, wide-eyed and hopeful lol.
  2. i do use a dual shock, i found the keyboard to be too cumbersome lol. i really should just invest in a pc but i really wouldn't use it much and i know id end up getting sucked into playing world of warcraft with my coworkers. though the thought of emulation has been tickling my fancy thanks to these boards. btw the prehistoric times creator thanks the AA forums for all their help. from what i heard theyre supposed to start filling orders in the next few weeks, unfortunately i don't know anything more than that.
  3. thanks for linking that. hard to do html with a dual shock.

  7. it came with a double sided instruction sheet. ill try to post a pic somehow, since im not using a pc it may be a lil hard.
  8. btw i apologize for my utter lack of reviewing skills. im sure someone else could do it much more eloquently.
  9. i was at tmg on sunday. i got there at about 8:45 and immediately went to the salute games table. they looked to have about a dozen cartridges and after a quick lap around the show, they were sold out. they had a demo set up on free play and i picked a copy up before i actually tried the game. i have to say its not bad. the 1st level is the screenshot thats been posted here. you play the lil pink guy and the stick is your spear. you toss the spear at the animal who randomly moves from tree to tree. if you enter the trees you scare the animal away and have to retreat until he returns. if you miss your toss you have to retrieve your spear at the top of the screen. if you hit the animal you stand on the body to gain points (which double as your hit points). if you feel youre strong enough you proceed up to the next screen where boulders rain down on you in a zig-zag pattern (think of the bats in frankensteins monster) and increasing speed in subsequent screens. once past the boulders you reach a lava maze. i haven't made it past that yet because i haven't had enough free time to practice. while the presentation is basic and a tad amateurish, im having fun and actually want to continue playing. thats the highest praise i can personally give a game. im sure more seasoned atari gamers will savage it, but im enjoying myself and i don't feel ripped off at all. id post a gameplay vid if i possessed something other than a ps3 to do my computing on lol. i have to give the creators kudos for a fairly original premise as well.
  10. ive heard alot of negative things about the 5200 over the years and i could never understand why. was it all based solely on the controllers? (which imo only take a minimum amount of effort to use correctly and prolong their lives-its sensitive, dont yank on it like an arcade stick). why did this console fail? yes, its huge. but the graphics are awesome, it had alot of good games, etc. why did the 5200 die off?
  11. q-bert and frogger with messed up labels. if i found one without a ripped or peeling label i think id faint. i also dont like typing correctly. it takes too long for something so informal.
  12. theres also vgxpo in philly oct 9th-11th. 2 cons within a month. i will be so utterly broke this fall.
  13. its called game core, presented by toomanygames. its sept 12th at the greater philadelphia expo center. gamecorecon.com
  14. i went today too. there were at least 100+ people there when i left at 2pm. i picked up a copy of prehistoric times, the creator seemed to have only brought about a dozen copies with him. the game itself isn't bad. im sure people here have higher standards than i do, but i definitely don't feel ripped off. the game is challenging and fun. i wouldn't pay more than $20 considering the quality of the AA homebrews for that price but for $15 its solid. the creator was really nice too. i didnt score any major finds but i picked up a bunch of 5200 and 2600 games. i got kung fu master for $8 and star wars arcade (5200) for like $12, 2 games i know usually sell for alot more. sadly 7800 games were almost non-existent so no 7800 ikari warriors or alien brigade for me. i also picked up demons souls, an awesome import only ps3 game. it was a solid show. theres another planned for sept. 12th.
  15. half and half? lol is this strictly gonna be a limited release? id LOVE a copy but im sure my chances of getting one are absolutely nil.

    Dumbass people

i see your point tc, but id at least have offered 6 or 7. its all well and good that its $5 on ebay....this isn't ebay. sometimes youve just gotta bite the bullet and factor in the sheer convenience of it. yea its $3 more, but its right in front of you.
  17. who do you think would have a tougher time- a classic gamer playing a modern game or a modern gamer playing a classic (2600-nes) game? would the classic gamer be put off by the controller alone? would a modern gamer be put off by the lack of things like check points and the hand-holding prevalent in most modern games?
  18. i don't use emulaters but thats awesome. from personal experience playing atari games on an hd lcd tv, they look like ass. youve gotta play them on a big ol' crt to get the true experience.
  19. but i bet that dope thinks gears and cod4 are the "best games evah, yo". i facepalm at anyone who thinks that 99.5% of today's games are anything more than mediocre (at best).
  20. but how hard would it be to make an "all in 1" atari console? one that plays 2600, 5200 and 7800 games. considering that the nes and snes are cheap and readily available, they still produce fc twins and fc3s', so why not an atari one? imo gamers would love a 3 in 1 atari console, the ones out there aren't gonna last forever.
  21. would there be a market for a very low cost "old school" style console? say something along the lines of the flashback or fc twin consoles, albeit with more marketing and new titles released regularly and at low cost? modern "old school" games like bit trip beat have really got me wondering.
  22. yes, my newly arrived copy of Seawolf. its awesome.
  23. looks pretty sweet. too bad im broke right now.
  24. texas chainsaw massacre, handwritten label. xenophobe for the 7800. frankenstein's monster for the 2600. i don't know about the rarity in terms of scale but they're the games ive paid the most for (outside of homebrews) so far. i collect for fun so i won't pay more than $50 or $60 for a game. if i keep the expenditure in line with the cost of modern games it doesn't feel like a financial investment to me.
  25. im a technological moron. its a splitter, i had no idea they had signal switchers. is that something i can get at a place like best buy or radio shack? i don't want to have to pay shipping on a probably fairly inexpensive item by ordering online.
