i just moved and had cable installed this past week. i hooked the cable wire to a splitter so i can have that and the atari plugged in simultaneously. the cable comes in fine, however when i fire up the atari i experience massive interference, rendering the games unplayable. this happens whether the cable box is powered on or not. the atari works perfectly when i plug it directly into the tv's coax. is there any way i can fix this? the splitter im using is rated for 5-900 mhz, could that be the problem?

Regrets you may have made with your game collection?
xg4bx replied to ddaniels's topic in Classic Console Discussion
i honestly don't know what happened to all the saturn games. i know the system is still floating around though. i regret ditching the sega cd games. i miss the good shooters like silpheed and robo aleste. i also had all the working designs rpgs. im literally angry at myself now. -
i switched my attention to AA after wasting my life on gamefaqs for way too long. for the most part that site is the perfect snapshot of everything thats wrong with gaming today. its nice to visit AA and see people actually talking about, i dunno, GAMES! not sales figures and "oh game x didn't sell 5 million on day 1 so its garbage". i'm too old for that crap.

oh.... im currently selling a malfunctioning 3DO on ebay for $100k. is that too much?

Regrets you may have made with your game collection?

losing my jaguar and games, i don't remember if i sold it or if its in my parents attic somewhere. years ago letting my younger brother (r.i.p.) borrow my copy of panzer dragoon saga. i never did find the missing disc. ugh. not sticking with atari and moving onto the nes. i realize now that i never really liked nintendo however i think atari is the bees knees. convincing my dad to buy a saturn instead of a psx "segas been around forever, sony's console won't last". the saturn was a great system but boy did i miscalculate system longevity. selling a 3DO and an air-conditioner box full of 3DO, genesis and sega cd games for $80 because i needed money for concert tickets. for the record the tickets were for blind guardian, my favorite band. however this was only like 2-3 years ago, i should have known better. -
You dont realize how much you have, until you move

i just moved and what slayed me was the amount of books i have. boxes and boxes full of books that will probably never get read and thats after donating a large chunk to a library sale. -
How have your gaming tastes changed over the decades?
xg4bx replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
btw don't mistake my enjoyment of fallout or killzone for hypocrisy, i'll play a shooter if the mythos/aesthetic appeals to me but the idea of playing another ww2 or modern warfare game makes me retch. -

except for the rare title here and there like fallout 3 or killzone 2, i have zero patience for modern games (ironically i work at gamestop). its a great feeling to go home after a day of hearing about nothing but warcraft or halo and firing up a game of beef drop. i used to be all about graphics and the like but i don't care anymore. great graphics kinda lose their luster when theyre used to re-skin the same damn shooters ive played a million times before or annual sequels like call of duty that you can set your watch by. ive gotten alot more into handheld gaming, atari and the wii, the last bastions of creative games (the ps3 has its great moments too). -
i prefer to do my gaming at night so the weather is irrelevant lol. i work afternoons so when i get home and my gf goes to bed, i like to sit cross legged in front of the tv like a child and fire up the atari. i find something so calming and surreal about gaming at night, especially playing atari games.

space cavern. its not a particularly great game but im oddly addicted to it.
-
i work at gamestop and my coworker and i talk about classic games and systems, ironically. we are fairly close in age and totally burnt out on modern gaming. its kinda hard to get excited when almost every game is a variation of one you've played a million times before. id take beef drop over call of duty any day.

the top right pin in the left controller port snapped off and unfortunately this seems to be keeping the controller button on the right from working. is there any way to fix this or any type of workaround? or should i simply just buy another console?

i just got my first homebrews from this site today (skeleton+ and beef drop for my recently acquired 5200).im 31 and its easily been 20+ years since i handled a new atari cartridge. the nostalgia almost moved me to tears,as corny as it sounds. i will definitely order from the a.a. store again. these games are absolutely priceless and i will support them every chance i get.

i just received my first 2 homebrews (beef drop and skeleton+) and i am impressed beyond words.not only did i get them within 2 days but they were so beautifully packaged it almost felt like i was defacing the games by opening them lol. the cardboard backing bagged with the instruction manuals was a great touch and left them in pristine shape. not only are the games great, everything just seems like such an incredible labor of love that i cant help but be incredibly impressed. kudos.

i think this post has shown that there would be some consumer interest were an enterprising soul to take up the project. like an earlier poster said, there really havent been any games featuring bezerk/frenzy style gameplay. im nobody to judge but imo the typical space invaders gameplay has been done to death in the homebrew/hack scene, there are so many great untapped gameplay styles, berzerk being one of them.

i first saw it on classic game room on youtube and ive wanted it ever since. i just can't justify buying a colecovision right now.
-
Did anyone ever port this game to an Atari system? it seems like a natural fit considering how popular Berserk is.
-
i plan on ordering some too. i have no idea if its good or not but i really want that skeleton+ game. i used to balk at the $20-$30 price tag but then i remembered the utter GARBAGE $60 ps360 games that i bought due to hype and suddenly $20 doesn't seem so expensive.

Picked up an NES today
xg4bx replied to kyle's topic in Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) / Famicom
personally i was never much of an nes fan. i owned it, i played it, but i always preferred the master system. sega lost me around the saturn era and i went back to nintendo for the n64 since i loathed the psx. not to say the master system had better games, because it didn't, but the nes always seemed to be filled with shovelware to me and i think its library is vastly overrated. take away the nintendo, konami and capcom franchises and you're left with a very large pile of crap. to this day the games don't hold my interest. i know it may be heresy for a gamer to say, but the nes is overrated and is viewed purely through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia. had i known then what i know now i'd have stuck with my 2600 and asked for a 7800. -
oh wow how did i miss that spelling error? doh! i wasn't aware that they received royalties selling on this site, thats very cool. i did a run through of the store and id need a second job to afford all that i want.
-
besides this one lol. im fascinated by it and id like to support the devs who take the time to bring us games. im aware of packrat games and neo's work, thats about it. any others i should check out?
-
i just paid $60 for mine. it was a refurb but it came c.i.b. with pole position 2, 2 controllers, ac adapter and even a hook up for modern tvs. this system is so clean it looks like its brand new, it still has the clear protective stickers on the metal logo strips.

unfunfortunately im somewhat of a luddite and don't have paypal yet. if the auction closes without a sale feel free to contact me directly and id send you a money order or something if youd like.
-
thanks everybody. i ordered the game on the 25th and still haven't gotten any conformation so i pretty much sent them a "are you sending me the game or not?" email. i found them through google shopping and i figured they had to be somewhat reputable. ah, live and learn. atari2600.com is awesome, i had confirmation in 3 hours and my order arrived perfectly in 2 days.
