  1. I think more exclusives need to come out before we can truly judge. Publishers aren't going to break their backs or put serious extra effort into ports. I find ZombiU to be pretty impressive for a launch game. The character models could use a little t.l.c. but I think the lighting and art style is fantastic.
  2. From what I've read, I dont know how true it is, but supposedly the U is selling at a faster rate than the Wii.
  3. Unless my skills have just completely atrophied, New Super Mario U is the hardest Mario I've played in years. I didnt feel a real challenge until the last world in the Wii one but I hit world 3 in this one and it just started owning me.
  4. To me the gamepad already feels so natural that it's one of those things that I'm wondering how I ever got along without it. To be able to be playing a game, then go into the Miiverse or GameFaqs and ask for help if you get stuck, right from the controller is awesome. Last night I got my pillows, plopped down on the couch, and was able to comfortably play Call of Duty (on the gamepad) whilst laying flat on my back, without a single skip or hitch in performance. Putting graphics and horsepower aside, stuff like THAT is "next gen" to me.
  5. Ever since I got this console all I want to do is play games. I swear I've played more in the past 48 hours than I have in the past year. I put like 6 hours in yesterday between Black Ops and Arkham City. I've got Mario sitting and waiting for me to get into, I need to play more Zombi U, and the Assassins Creed 3 I got from Gamefly really hasn't been touched yet. I suppose having too much to play is a better problem than having nothing to play.
  6. I tried (the original Wii) Epic Mickey and New Super Mario on the Wii U and I was struck at how vibrant the games looked. Using component cables on my Wii Mario looked kinda washed out but now the colors look incredibly vibrant. While the games do look a bit sharper, it's the colors and contrast that really stand out.
  7. Yesterday was the first day that I spent doing nothing but playing games since I was a kid; this poor console was on for about 14 hours. I'm shocked at how comfortable and natural using the gamepad already feels, even playing something like Black Ops was comfortable and easy. I'll eventually get a Pro controller for games like Ninja Gaiden but the gamepad worked awesome with all the games I tried. It's odd that the multiplayer in New Super Mario U is such a selling point when the game feels far more designed and laid out for a single player than the Wii one was.
  8. I died right in the beginning lol. my 2nd character fared a bit better, she lasted 35 minutes, but she ended up biting the dust. It certainly is a pretty hard and intense game. It took me about an hour to finally update the console. My tag is xg4bx123 if anybody wants to add me. I have Assassins Creed 3 out from Gamefly but haven't tried it yet. I bought Black Ops 2 and it runs as smooth as butter, not a second of lag and there were quite a few people on. Playing Super Mario in HD felt a little odd at first but man it's a gorgeous game.
  9. Sega fans may want to check this one out. It's releasing on every console, at a wallet-pleasing $40 to boot. http://www.eurogamer...nsformed-review I'm loving the Golden Axe remix music-
  10. Picked this up tonight. Too bad all I can do is stare at it for the next 2 days -
  11. oh oh oh it's thanksgiving....

  12. here's a video from IGN that touches on the survival aspects of Zombi U- what it doesn't mention is that you also lose proficiency when you die and restart; you gain skill with weapons and the like the more you use them so when you die you're back to square one.
  13. Well Ninja Gaiden, Zombi U, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed and Darksiders are launch titles so I think the "kiddie" stigma might be wearing off. Then there's this- "It could have been so different though, as the game’s producer Katsuhiro Harada was initially unsure about what audience the Wii U would cater for, and had originally thought about opting for a much more simplified version of a Tekken game. In an interview with Polygon, Harada spoke about how it was Nintendo that made his team think twice and make the game appeal to more hardcore gamers. At first, we were aiming towards a simplified version of Tekken — taking a lot of elements from the arcade version and streamlining them for a casual fan base. Nintendo's reaction was that it wanted us to keep the hardcore elements that make Tekken what it is. We were quite surprised." http://www.nintendol...o_be_simplified Nintendo certainly seems to be taking a more active role in "hardcoring" this console. They got involved with (and published on the Wii U) Ninja Gaiden 3 and brought it up from a game IGN gave a 3/10 to a hardcore, dismemberment filled version that IGN gave a 7.6/10 to. They secured Bayonetta as an exclusive. Zombi U is a gory, survival horror rogue-like. I think they're serious about changing their image.
  14. Rogue Trooper.(It's probably my most favorite third person shooter ever.) Rez Sub Rebellion Pirates:The Legend of Black Kat
  15. here's the details so far- http://www.shacknews.com/article/76569/how-to-transfer-wii-data-to-the-wii-u
  16. Nothing wrong with being excited about newer/older stuff. I had gone years without a Wii so a lot of the games feel (and are) brand new to me. I played SMB Galaxy 2 via Gamefly (still a bit too rich for my blood to buy) but it's an incredible game. Even after a lot of experience with the PS360, the graphics still knocked my socks off. I never cared for New Super Mario Wii the first time I played it but I picked up another copy a few weeks ago and really got into it. I'm embarrassed to say that I find the game pretty hard . It's been a lot of years since I cursed at a game but this has caused a few F words to fly. I feel like a kid again lol. If you like platformers, definitely check out Rayman Origins and Donkey Kong Country Returns. The only word I can use to describe Rayman is beautiful. It's a beautiful game from top to bottom, and not just in terms of graphics. Donkey Kong is easily one of the most challenging games I've ever played, hands down. This is old-school, NES hard and you'd definitely get your money's worth.
  17. The way I understand it was that he openly bitched and moaned about having to play K&L because he wanted to play Assassins Creed instead. Timers on the offices 360 were checked and it was found he put an hour into K&L before writing his review and did indeed play AC for the entire weekend. In other words, he was fired for a poor review of a game he barely played. Supposedly he was on thin ice with Gamespot anyway and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. Of course it sounds sexier to say he was fired for simply giving a game a bad score. It's odd how this was the first and last case of being fired over a poor score I've ever heard of, I see poor reviews all the time and nobody has ever gotten fired over them.
  18. Even though I'm getting the Wii U next month, I plan on continuing to collect original Wii titles. Most of the game prices are so low these days you could put together a pretty respectable library for (relatively) cheap.
  19. The hypocrisy of reviews sticks in my craw as well. They will savage a sequel for being too similar to its predecessor yet stand ready to slap a 9+ on Call of Duty every year. Unfortunately no unbiased Consumer Reports exists for gamers. The closest to unbiased/non-bought off is guys like Mark from Classic Game Room on Youtube. Personally I know I made the right decision years ago when I stopped listening to "pro" review sites. It always struck me as a bit odd how the big name sites would often have near identical scores for the big games and hopefully this article will cut down on some of the "yea right" when people suggest that reviews are paid for.
  20. If you are looking to pre-order a Nintendo Wii U this holiday you may be in luck as Wal-Martwill be accepting in-store pre-orders shortly. On Wednesday afternoon a user on CAGrevealed that starting on October 14, Wal-Mart will begin to take in-store pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Bundle using their Holiday Layaway system -- pre-orders will be limited to 2 per person. Just as all other major retailers, Wal-Mart will have limited quantities and sales will be blocked once the store reaches their allocation. For those interested in pre-ordering at Wal-Mart you should know that there is a service fee of $5 and 10% down to the reserve the Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Bundle. http://www.examiner.com/article/wal-mart-nintendo-wii-u-store-pre-orders-start-on-oct-14
  21. Due to Public Relations and $$$ http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/comments/former-ign-employee-admits-review-scores-are-skewed-due-to-public-relations This is one of those things that we always knew but it's kind of depressing to have suspicions confirmed.
  22. It's about damn time. We could have been playing amazing space sims all along but developers decided to let the genre die; hopefully this will be a kick in the ass.
  23. Who needs instructions when 8 out of 10 games these days consist of merely holding down the shoot button until you win? ZING!
  24. Wii U Premium's Nintendo Land pack-in will be physical disc, no details on packaging http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=185429
