Yea, I got banned quite a few times back in the day from Live. If it's got the Xcalibur chip, it's a 1.6. Only one to have that video chip. Keep that board, fix the caps and replace the circled transistor. Bet it fires right up. I always grabbed that transistor off of any other version, even though it is not identical, it worked.
-
1.6s were a PIA for everything. Pretty sure I have the LCD screen for the modchip layin around here somewhere.
-
Dead 1.6 mobo probably just needs a transistor swap. Common for them to go after chipped. Easy fix.

The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!

As long as we are talking about oddball stuff: Picked this up a while back. Just happened to see it on ebay for a great price. These units are one of 3 different ones, this seems to be the more common but even it is nearly impossible to find. Info on them is very limited but thankfully, someone did get one with instructions so dipswitch settings are available as well as general set up settings. It is an awesome piece of PC Engine/Turbo history but does have limitations. Games are limited to one player simultaneous games and no turbo switches. Other than that, it is a run of the mill PCE with great RGB out. A tap does work on it so my plans are to make it 2 player capable and add turbo switches. If I get ambitious, I will also add a Tennokoe 2 to it as well to save games. Ideally, I would like to seek out a dead TG 16 unit and use that shell to house everything like the tap and Tennokoe but, truthfully, once I get it setup the way I want, I probably will leave it as is.- 3,677 replies

Happy 15th Anniversary Halo!
Starscream replied to GemWare Games's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Halo CE really changed FPS games on consoles. Halo 2 online multiplayer defined online gaming for consoles. Halo 3 was awesome. Reach was awesome. 4 was really good. 5 was the complete shitting all over the Halo franchise. All of the work Bungie did for years, and 343 managed to fuck it up with 1 game. Looking back, you saw hints of destroying the series in 4, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it ended up. And we can't forget the Master Chief collection, and what a clusterfuck that was. 343 has proven that not only can they fuck anything up, they can fuck it up so it may not ever work correctly, and with no concern at all, they move on to the next game to fuck shit up even more! After 5, I will bargain bin any future Halo games as long as 343 is at the helm in their current state. At least Bungie provided 4 pretty much perfect games to play for many years to come. -
Original Xbox - replacing dead hard drive steps?
Starscream replied to ubersaurus's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Yea basically, you got it. Not sure you can flash bios from usb...I don't follow the scene much anymore, but you can from disc, or as I said, ftp. FTP is really easy. IP will show on your screen, just type IP into browser and Xecuter flashbios screen apears, hit flash and thats it. Any bios will work in theory. Stay away from the 1.6 ones, I think called M6. It will work, but not best idea. If you need help PM me. -
Original Xbox - replacing dead hard drive steps?
Starscream replied to ubersaurus's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Easiest way is to download Slayers auto installer iso, burn it to disc. But first, you will need to flash the chip which can be done with a disc or thru your home network via ftp. If you are using windows 7 on up, you may have to boot into safe mode to flash thru the network. Thats just your basic steps. There is more you can do but to get it up and going, it's all you need. -
Wow, tough crowd here. As it's well known, I think Nintendo sucks. I equate them to being the Metallica of video games....they were only good for a short time and that was a long time ago, that I don't even remember they exist. But I gotta say, at least aesthetically, they nailed the Switch. It looks like a solid, modern device, not clumsy, and very cleanly laid out. I think this may work. This current Generation of games sucks complete ass. I feel it is the worst ever. The PS4 and Xbone home screens alone are cluttered messes and pretty much every single game is a cluttered screen with over-promised and under-delivered everything. I see that as a good thing for Nintendo. They don't need a heavy hitter 3rd party title this time around, not only because of the things I mentioned, but everyone on the software side is playing it very safe. Nothing on the horizon that suggest any unique or whimsical games. Software has been Nintendo's problem in living rooms for like, well, ever now, and there isn't a huge gap to overcome this time around. If it has a decent online service, and solid, repetitive software, I can't see it not doing well at all. I dig it and hope they do well with it

I have seen the MK series mentioned a few times in this thread and MK 1-3 actually are very easy to go through. I am not 100% sure about home versions as I never played any, but for the arcade versions, your action "triggers" a response from the AI. For example, MK2 doing a footsweep as the opponent comes towards you, automatically makes the opponent jump. The closer they are will make them jump away from you, too soon, and they jump at and attack. So waiting until they are close, footsweep then throw projectile. Even if they block, they are now on the defensive. On any difficulty on MK1, you can win double flawless, every round until goro, just by uppercutting or roundhouse kick. DO NOT use block at all. Wait until they approach. Timing is critical but it is very easy. If you don't really use block until the last minute, it makes it easier. When projectiles are thrown at you, most will go over you in a crouching position if you don't use block. By not using block, they will also go right into another move which, once you get the timing, allows you to hit them. I think starting on 3, if you jump a little later, you can turn around in the air and kick them in the back. You need to do that instead of kicking from the air face to face, so to speak. Also, double up your moves. Scorpion has the leg grab. If you kick someone in the air, as soon as the hits registers, do the leg grab. Double hit. In fact, finish everything off with the leg grab. Jax and Lui Kang, always hold in the button for power up move (low kick). If you kick them out of the air, as soon as they are about to land, let go of button, the ground pound or bicycle kick will hit them right away. The AI is responsive not aggressive. Once you figure the cause and effect, they are really simple.

All you need is config magic. You can download it and burn it to disc then lock the drive. An unlocked HDD will work on any motherboard. 06 error could also mean it is locked, just to the wrong motherboard. In that case, it becomes a little more difficult.

Been keeping an eye on this. Not to be a negative nancy but I am pretty sure it will be like every game so far this generation....over promised, under developed, glitched, broken, and nowhere near the final product it has portrayed. Hopefully I am wrong but that's pretty much how this gen has gone so far.

Looking for a Genesis model 1, (with the volume slider). I don't need any games of controllers or really a power supply. It MUST be working, all functions. I have some PS3 games to possibly trade or money.

The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!
Starscream replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's been a while so I am fuzzy on this but, all hucards had boxes, no super CD games did and the oddball game was Vasteel ( not 100% sure if this is the game) had no box. Most of the last released hucard games had a plastic tray in the boxes with no cd case, while all the ones before those had cd case, instructions hucard, The ones with the tray inside instead of jewel case I remember happening when the Turbo duo was released. That's why Airzonk didn't have a case, it was a tray game. And when this happened with the trays, I got flustered because I didn't want hucards in sleeves sitting around, I wanted jewel cases. Ya know how they have the arm that holds the hucard in place in the jewel case? That's what I wanted. So, I contacted NEC here and they sent me out about 50 cases lol!! I didn't get a pic of those. I think complete for collectors is kinda what I would have in the pics. Most collectors want the boxes to be considered complete. Truth is, some of the games are so hard to get that having the box becomes secondary. There's a few games not pictured, and Vasteel is one, which makes me think it was a game without a box originally because it would have been in my pile of games that weren't boxed.- 3,677 replies

Yea that's some of it. Some of those games have never been opened and some are sealed boxes that were used as display at Babbages. I have the games but out of the boxes. When they were closing, the manager put them all aside for me because I bought a few games a week and she knew I would want them. I have tons more just didn't take pics.- 3,677 replies

The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!
Starscream replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hey I have those adapters! But I think mine are the official ones? I should visit this thread more often. TG 16 is my favorite system ever. I was lucky and smart enough that I bought every single released US game new when they were released. Still have my TG 16 system with cd add on, turbo express and tuner, all kinds of taps and controller extensions and of course the DUO and accessories. I have all the Turboplay mags too...even got my name in one for winning a contest. Still have the prizes which were a foam can cover, Devils Crush t shirt and some stickers. I remember when TZD went in business. You could get the Kisado adapters there and all kinds of stuff. I had ordered an buttload of hucard sleeves just in case.- 3,677 replies

I think it has the same pinout as an American Duo system and will work, but the TG 16 has a different pinout and it won't work. Been a while, I may be wrong.- 3,677 replies

So how do Activision and EA do it? Why would they be selling their souls? They make great games. If they focused on games only instead of underpowered, gimmick controlled, feature stripped, cheap hardware, they could potentially do amazing things. Imagine how much they could do with awesome hardware for a change or an outstanding social online environment. They not only limit their own market with this gimmicky stuff, they limit their appeal. It's difficult to argue they excel at games, suck at hardware, at least in the last 15 years or so when gaming started embracing technology and it's evolving advancements. 3DS sales are strong but even at that, it has seriously declined in sales from it's predecessors. The handheld market has been their cash cow for years.....and it's declining. So they have what?....20 billion? Yup, lets just cater to less people and continue to sell less product and lose marketshare consistently because pom poms can keep us going, not money. And in case you don't keep up with Nintendo news....they have stated numerous times in the past year, that they are planning a new business model in direct connection with the wiiu failure and declining sales. Guess they aren't happy being niche. Guess they aren't happy with what they are currently doing.

1 gimmick play noun gim·mick \ˈgi-mik\ Simple Definition of gimmick Popularity: Bottom 40% of words : a method or trick that is used to get people's attention or to sell something Where are the motion controls now? What standard did they set? For the wii, they were fine. They did not translate well for many games, just ask Sony and MS and countless developers. How was public reaction after the wii, demanding motion controls? Traditional, improved controllers are the mainstream still. Sure, Nintendo gets credit for wii motion control but they did indeed copy all of the motion controls that were part of video games for decades before, but improved upon it. Just Like Sony, who I guess copied Nintendo (that copied), tried to improve on the wii controls, then MS, who copied Sony, who copied Nintendo, who copied those before them, tried to improve upon all of the copycats with Kinect. Aaaaannnnnndddd, they all pretty much realized, it just doesn't really work out too well.So they stick with what works. Even touchscreen interfaces for controls fall short. Let's put it this way......a steering wheel works, it's what has always worked, and logically looking at it, there isn't anything that is going to work as well. We did go from joysticks to thumbsticks and a few more buttons, but a traditional controller still gets the job done best. The wii motion controls lasted as long as baseball bat controllers, dance pads, impact vests, and the few other specialty controllers. All of those were gimmicks by definition. Don't take it so negatively. There are dozens of amazing and unique games on every system, please don't imply that Nintendo holds an exclusive on that. While the wii controls did immerse the player into a game on a different level, a great game doesn't need a controller to make or break it. Unless it's Steel Battalions, which would be considered a gimmick. Great, Nintendo makes money. That's what business' do. So does MS, so does Sony....at least a few dollars. Actually, I don't see any of them going anywhere but the fact is, Nintendo is backed into a corner to do something with their billions of dollars, while poverty stricken Sony and MS aren't. Being a one trick pony business and losing market share on all fronts is NOT a good position to be in. I'm not a creative person for the most part. I mean, I can be but obviously only in areas I excel or understand in great length. So for me to even guess what Nintendo could do to gain some attention would be silly. I do think they would be on to something if they decided to do a VR system. Ya know, strap it on your head anywhere, any time. VR is almost ready and doesn't seem as though it will be cost prohibitive. That would be 2 uphill battles at the same time, but could be a path worth traveling.

Not true by any stretch of the imagination. What good is innovation if it sucks or adds nothing to the experience? The wii motion control thing was a gimmick, which, as motion controls are pretty much non existent again like for so many decades, proves. Oddly, achievements that MS brought mainstream, are more than likely here to stay. I'd say achievements were way more creative and innovative than motion controls. Nintendo claims the trophy/achievements are a gimmick. So....where are the motion controls again? For decades everyone claims Nintendo is innovative, yet they all end up gimmicks, save for say, analog sticks(which they didn't even originate the use of).Biggest problem is, they strive to be different, basically mimicking Apple, but offer nothing appealing to a broad range of people in the home console market. Sure the wii sold great, it was a fluke. Meanwhile, Sony has almost dominated the home console market since they decided to play in it and has not done anything "innovative". Sure, blame Sonys success on the "average, uneducated gamers", but, we aren't elite here. We ARE the average gamers. Everything Nintendo has deemed gimmicky - online play, homebrews, HD games - have ALL become standards. I wouldn't bet the farm on them blazing any new trails that matter this time either.
