Xbone Rant: Is this guy too negative, or has a point?
Starscream replied to wood_jl's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
Lol ok. How many people even knew about game sharing? Hey, MS built what all of the internetz tantrums dictated, what can I say? I think that says it right there actually. -

That's simplifying to try making it seem as it was the only thing changed. Game sharing with people digitally and game library following you anywhere without the need to have physical copies were 2 brilliant ideas. These 2 features alone were badass and a nice step towards moving all digital while keeping few restrictions. In fact, these were core elements that were removed and it's a shame. -

This one part is how I feel. I don't care about the PS4 at all and once MS caved and changed the XBone to accommodate everyone, I knew it wasn't worth getting for at least a year after release. There was no way they had the time to change pretty much everything in time for release. I messed with the BIL's on Christmas night and walked away pretty much indifferent. With my limited desire to play games and limited time, I just don't see me even thinking of one until Halo 5. I know I am in the minority when I say that I thought the direction they wanted to go with the Xbone was way more compelling than the concessions they made. -
Nintendo's "New Business Structure"
Starscream replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Being short sighted and arrogant has put Nintendo in this position. It clearly started a decade ago. The first sign was their stance that online gaming was a "fad". Sega actually had tried with the Dreamcast (I know they weren't the first) but as soon as MS entered the game and created an easy community to be involved in, it was the future. Evn Sony was caught off guard and is still tryin. The whole time, this "fad" was a cash cow for MS and changed the world of console gaming forever. The second sign was they were still stuck 2 decades behind thinking horsepower was what it's all about. With that archaic stance, they decided less was better. Thing is, just like happened with XB Live, Nintendo couldn't grasp that consoles power didn't matter as much as games and features. The wii was a fluke. Great marketing and word of mouth sold many systems. Not many games. They STILL couldn't pull in sports games or heavy hitters like GTA series. No online, no DLC, no features, just cheap. Their goal to introduce "new" gamers pretty much failed. Where are they now? Even they have no interest in the wii u .Again, MS and Sony knew DLC was major and heavy hitting library that contain something for everyone, in addition, online gaming still grew. Third sign was the dismissive attitude towards indy games and tablet/phone games. The basically failed to even acknowledge indi games and stated that phone/tablet games weren't a threat. Meanwhile, MS and Sony both offered indy developers a shot at releasing games and even integrated phones/tablets into their infrastructures. Again, Sony and MS both have ever expanding markets and profits avenues, Nintendo embraced nothing. Phone and tablet games have become relevant. The same cheap asses that bought the wii for price only are the same that somehow think a $5 game is as good as a $60 game. Nintendo of all companies should have figured that out. Fourth sign was thinking they could be apple. Do your own thing, play by your own rules and people would come. And they did. Of course, having one trick and releasing that same trick with minimal upgrades, a pretty face, only takes you so far. Ask Apple, they know now. Features and advancement takes the cake. Price point leaves no room for growth if you want to remain at the low end. It's always been "But Nintendo makes a profit....Nintendo is the only real game company". So, how exactly does either equate to a better consumer experience? Yay, Nintendo profits but has no third party support on consoles, crap online, joke of DLC. You are right, that is super duper advantageous for me. They are the only real game company, that has a limited library time after time. Yes, that too is so beneficial for ME. I'm gonna see if my friends from all over the planet can come to my couch and play. Logistically, that makes more sense than playing over a network right? The wii u was the thing nobody asked for or needed. It still has very little to offer over the PS3 or 360 and nothing compared to the PS4 or Xbone, both of which are gimped right now, and expensive. I have zero clue what they need to do and wouldn't know where to begin. They dug this hole and I'm sure they can figure a way out. -
I'm all in it's just when. I may have time a few nights this week.

Bushnell reckons Nintendo faces 'path to irrelevance'

Me too. Here's one quick one. Too lazy to get the others. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/2012/0316/Top-video-game-markets-in-the-world/United-States This is why for the last decade we haven't been stuck with cartoony transgender lead characters with big eyes, swords 2 stories tall, spiked hair, girls barely clothed with tits so big they wouldn't be able to stand in real life, and stupid story lines. -

Last I saw, US was the leader in the games industry, Japan second, and Canada third. US is also the biggest market for sales. -

Microsoft Confirms Xbox One Will Function Without Kinect
Starscream replied to JamesD's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
So Rootkit was less offensive? Denying personal info was compromised for weeks before being forced to come clean? Removing features after purchase? Reaperman has been a voice of reason for months and yet is ignored. Your rant was good, no doubt, but it's shallow based on the fact that you don't hold all companies accountable to the same measure. If you have cable, mobile phone, netflix you get bent over time after time and just sit back and say "thanks, can I have another?" Seriously, I was about to just say "Rock on broseph, fight the fight!!" but this stance is just wishy washy. Is giving you info about a possible upcoming purchase and you not agreeing with it worse/better than saying nothing about an upcoming product? Patents pertaining to DRM for BR discs? By your standard of speculation and many others, you should only buy Nintendo. Afterall, they really haven't done anything bad. Worse case, they forgot you need games to play on video game systems. MS has screwed the pooch on every single thing they have done in the past year, Xbox 360 excluded. It won't get better I'm sure but they have listened and changed products to try to accommodate. In the end, it will once again come down to GAMES, which is what this is all about. That is what usually decides what sells the best. I'm gonna get both, Xbone first, later on a PS4. Both companies treated me as expected over the years. I don't need to "stick it" to either one. -
I happened to purchase 3d TV's and that made me play games in 3d. I don't know if I would be interested enough otherwise, but both plasmas I bought happened to be 3d and it was an added bonus. On that note, plasmas generally do better with 3d over anything else. If you ask me, plasmas are better than everything else completely in all aspects but maybe another time for that. The display can be adjusted on mine as well as the depth of the 3d. Some games also give you control over brightness and effect. Simple to adjust and tune to your liking. Crystal clear in all instances I have played with adjustments. I can't think of anything on the PS3 game wise I have played besides maybe Killzone which was cool looking, but it does do a good job for Blu Ray movies. With the constant updates, the PS3 is a great bargain for a BR 3d player. I currently have a few Samsung 3d BR players and there are occasional updates and they do pretty good too. I am trying to remember what the deal was with Disney BR movies but there was some issue about something but thru updates they were corrected. The 360 has a few. I know Halo 1 Anniversary and Gears 3 for sure and I'm thinking Crysis did. I know there are other but Halo and Gears were awesome. Gears 3 in particular in the water towards the end of the game was freaking awesome. In also I remember the first time having a needler shoot at me and the needles coming right at me. It does add a bit of immersion to the game and it brings everything "alive". I guess it's no longer looking for the moving things onscreen but more like being a part of them, if that makes sense. I think 3D gaming is cooler than 3D movies. If you need a new tv, get 3D (it doesn't even add to the cost anymore) and enjoy. I can't say I'd recommend going to get one JUST for 3D but I would totally do something like that myself, so take my advice lightly.

This makes no sense. If that were the case, why would a retailer carry a Roku, iphone, ipod, ipad, tv............

PlayStation 4? Nah, the Xbox One’s worst enemy is Microsoft
Starscream replied to JamesD's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
This is very true. I find it odd that MS since the original Xbox was very good at releasing detailed plans and sticking with them. They were also very open to suggestions and seemed to be willing to work at really getting things "right". But this time, wow, just a mess. They never released and solid info on anything. I wasn't sure how game sharing would work, not sure on the TV controls, not sure what paying for Live would include, etc. At this point, they would be better off not releasing this year and just do it mid 2014 and get everything figured out and let the public have all the info well before launch. Recent rumors that Sony made on the fly decisions on pricing, drm stance, and PSN after MS at E3 seems very plausible. Sony said just as little as MS but got lucky. I expect that from Sony though, not MS. -
but you do have a tinfoil hat right?

Rumor: XBoxOne to abandon DRM and Used Games policies
Starscream replied to Necron99's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I agree this was inevitable but disagree on why. I think the internet and crowd reaction at E3 was a part. I also think that not one publisher stood beside MS on these announcements even though they started this type of movement a few years back may have played a huge part. From a consumer standpoint, it sucked, but it was exactly what publishers have wanted yet none actually ever commented on it. MS had no business in the first place implementing these restrictions - provide the vehicle, let those who support it make the decision. I am glad for the turnaround. MS looked stupid as shit with this stuff and deserved all of the backlash. Thankfully, it was awesome alone for some cartoons, video's and memes though. Why? It appears everyone forgets what Sony has done. Or Nintendo. Or Apple. Face it, people have very short term memory with this stuff. A few killer exclusives, and people will cave. We've all done it. You already seemed to have forgotten how much superior and more powerful the cell technology was is the PS3. That worked out well. But it's all in the games and hopefully no red rings or the like this time around. They should look like fools. Those jobs pay great and you gotta take the good with the bad. Some risks fail. This was a great example. Overall, it has ended up looking better. It's better to admit failure than to try to excuse it. While everyone can now LOL that MS changed their stance, they did not blame it on how you were holding the device, promise better things that never happen, or completely ignore the problem and hope everyone forgets (which it's easy to see so many people already have). The release statement nonetheless seemed "shallow" because I can't really think of the word I want. I did not like any of the things being implemented since day one, but I sure do love some Halo and that alone was enough for me to want an Xbone. I still think that publishers and devs should find a better business model to recoup costs. Now they have their chance. Apparently, everyone has been so keen on bad Xbox news that quite a few interesting DRM announcements have taken place that slipped under the radar. I won't cancel my preorder. I'm thinking this will be cool. I didn't jump on the buy a PS4 because it's not the Xbone bandwagon though. Still can't see it doing anything my PS3 doesn't do. I'll get a PS4 years from now no doubt but too much of the same old same old to be appealing to me. I will be bitching up a storm if your Live account won't work on the 360 and Xbone though. That shit will not make me happy. -
I'm thinking it's like the release day 360 that had the chrome dvd tray cover and came with the media remote. I assume this has something to make it different from ones shipped after release day.
