buying new system - xbox or ps2?

How ???? Halo is SEAMLESS, fluid, and has amazing detail. For the PS2 Deus Ex, is ok, Timesplitters - blah, No One Lives Forever - horrible, and many of the other been there done that FPS on the PS2 all look like crap. I have yet to see any "jaggies" or overlaps in ANY Xbox game. cumbersome control ? Well in your defense, I am sure that you aren't use to accuracy and precision being you play the PS2. If you are implying that to me, try again. I have over 20 different systems and around 1000 games. I play them all. Graphics ARE important. Why is it you always say that they aren't ? People that are PS2 fans will ALWAYS tell you that graphics aren't important for obvious reasons. This is no longer the time to have to settle for mediocre systems. The technology has been here for a while. Sony released the PS2 outdated from the start. Why ? Because people would buy into that. You think I don't care about gameplay ? I do. I want to PLAY the game, not wait for it to load. I want accurate controls, I want to buy the system and not have to accessorize it, I wanna get my $50 worth when I play, I wanna get my $200 worth for the system I buy. Sony cannot provide that for me. You are happy to settle for your PS2, great. I want games I can enjoy, that's why I have the XBox. I am never afraid to get a new Xbox game because I know it will be playable, look good, and I will enjoy it. Even if it's something I normally would not play.I play my PS2 and am looking foward to a few games, but what's coming out on the Xbox is much more appealing to me. You don't like MS, therefore you will always be biased. I really don't care about who makes what. I enjoy all of my systems to what they are capable of. This thread is about which this dude should get. It's far easier to see how short the PS2 stacks up when against the XBox. If you don't wanna agree, cool. But facts are facts. The PS2 sells more and has more games. I really don't see anymore ways it is superior. -
buying new system - xbox or ps2?

Eric said : I 100% agree. All of the games on the Xbox - even the dual port games - are much more fluid. I had my PS2 for about 7 months and never played it because there was nothing interesting. On the other hand, I just picked up my 3rd Xbox because, my gilfriend, our son, and I were always arguing over the Xbox so I got one for each of us And, to this day, most PS2 titles still don't look much better than DC titles. Dollar for dollar, the PS2 is way too expensive. You have to buy accessory after accessory. Multi taps, Network adaptors, memory. and the soon to be harddrive. Where will it end? When you're done, you will have all that the Xbox has out of the box except it's still 2yrs old and outdated. And, it still won't be capable of superior games. Everyone likes/dislikes different games so that will always be a personal opinion, but for me, the PS1/PS2 have had rehash after rehash of so-so games. I hate to think how many "great" games I bought for my PS2 that ended up being some of the most awful looking and playing games I ever owned And the load times........ -

Jaghammer said: Damn right !! And if there are so many great games, how come all I ever hear anyone talking about it GTA 3, GT 3, MGS ? Granted they are great games, but for such a huge library of games, you'd think that you'd actually hear more hype about the hundreds of other games. Of course, most non XBox owners say the only good game on the Xbox is Halo. Ummm, not true. But if that's the case, the percentage of great Xbox games for the amount available is still greater than the amount of great PS2 titles for the amount available And as I stated before, I like to play my games, not wait for them to load * cough, cough, PS2, cough* Scot From S.C. said: That was me. Yes there were media articles about some initial problems and nobody would deny that. But, most of it was blown way out of proportion by PS2 fansites and fanboys. I think the number of defective systems was around 1%. As for customer service, don't know about that. It's a pretty well known fact by now that Sony knew that the lasers were going to defect in most early model PS2's and with the intentional "shortage" that they just so happened to have, you couldn't get a replacement. As a matter of fact, the defects they knew about is what finally determined that you only get a 30 day warranty with a PS2. The XB and GC have 90 days. -

Funny, I just played Red Faction 2 yesterday. The load times are every few minutes and annoying, but....the game is worth getting. The worst load times/frequency PS2 game I've played so far has gotta be No One Lives Forever. And add to that the controls sucked big time. No doubt about it, the XBox is coming on strong and it's still basically in it's infancy. I don't care what anyone says, MS did their homework. They thought of everything even down to those little break-away thingies on the controllers so you don't break the cable. Hell, Halo and JSRF and Dead To Rights are worth getting it for alone. -

You can't really go wrong with either of them. I have both and I've actually have 3 Xboxs' total so I guess you know what I'd say to get. The PS2 by far has the biggest game library but - at least from my point of view - 10 or 15 may be worth owning. If you play sports games, go for the XBox mainly because all of the games are pretty much the same and you won't have to buy a multitap or memory card. I am extremely annoyed by the PS2 load times. There is no excuse for them, of course, I never really minded until I had an Xbox. BOTH of them have some killer games coming out and quite a few aren't exclusive to one system. Don't believe any of the bull about defective Xboxs and poor customer service. It's all just "internet stories". Not one of my Boxs' or any of the 15 or so friends that own one has ever frozen, but my PS2 has quite a bit and it is most likely the exception to the rule. Now Controllers are a personal opinion - I like them both because they all do what they should, but of the 2, the PS2's is the least accurate. The Xbox has some totally unique games out already or soon to be released and the graphics are much better on most multi system games. Of course, you do have crappy graphics too - Kabuki Clash . The XBox has 5:1 digital capabilities all the time (as long as the game is encoded) but the PS2 only has it for DVD playback and cutscenes in games. That's a big deal to me but maybe not to everyone. I prefer the XBox DVD playback because you just don't get some crappy icons on the screen that you have to figure out what they do like on the PS2. And system link on the XBox is THE shit !!! The PS2 is 2 yrs old and it is showing it's age and limitations. The new XBox bundle is the way to go. For the same price as a PS2, you get better hardware, 2 games, and you never need to buy another accessory - except for controllers. Oh and you still get the free DVD playback kit too for the XBox. Of course, there is Contra coming out on the PS2........ -
Yea, you are right there. Being I do have all 3 systems, it's pretty easy to tell the difference but in the end, it's all about the games
-
Well, I guess I'll be the XBox fanboy.....I have all 3 systems and I bought Timesplitters 2 for the Xbox and wouldn't even consider getting it for the other 2. I'm not trying to start a "systems war" thread, just giving my opinions. Any game that I can get for any of the 3, I always get the Xbox version because #1 I wanna play the game, not wait for it to load. The PS2 load times are the absolute worse ever and yes I do have a Neo CD system and it still loads faster. #2 I do not see the need to accsessorize my system to death with multi taps, memory cards, etc. I could use that money - that I should not have to spend in the 1st place - to buy more games. #3 I can link my systems together for some nice multi player action. I have nothing against the Cube - it's a cool system but I still have more options with the XBox. And for controllers, the PS2 controller is the worst of the 3. I have played TS2 on all 3 systems and the lack of precision form the PS2 controller is annoying. In fact, any FPS on the PS2 is annoying to play because the controller has the least amount of accuracy. The PS2 may have been a great system when it came out 2 yrs. ago, but it is truly showing it's limitations more than ever.

Multi Player was pretty sweet. Tons of weapons and maps. What sucks is that you hafta unlock some of the maps

Yea, I too think that the context of the ad was meant in a more lighthearted manor. Personally, I have a kid and I judge what he should watch and play and I am responsible enough to teach him what is correct and incorrect. But as an adult, I don't want my whole entire life - be it music, games, movies, etc - to be based around what is ok for kids. Pokemon, Mario, and Cartoon Network just don't do it for me. I think all of us on this forum are beyond the " OOHHH, did you see that?!" " I can't believe they showed that!" part of our lives and really shouldn't worry too much about is this ok for so and so. If you have kids, be responsible, if you don't have kids, have a blast doing whatever. Do YOUR part to do the right thing and everything else will fall into place.

You may wanna keep renting it though. The game is kinda short. I played 2 player co-op and finished it in about 2 hours.
-
Spank my ass and call me Billy:!: I stand corrected. It was Carruth. I get all of those NFL players mixed up......But, the DTR ads are still cool.....
-
I gotta side with Liquid on this. Namco made an adult game and advertised it for adults. On the topic of game ads tho - I am more offended by seeing Rey Lewis in a commercial. For those who don't know, he is an NFL player who had a friend kill his girlfriend because she was pregnant. Although he was "cleared" of the charges because of some legal bull, he is a muderer. Bad enough athletes can do drugs, murder, cheat, steal, and rape as many times as they want and still be ok in the public eye, but then they get to do adds to promote products. See StanJr, Namco isn't that bad for thier add. Even tho you see the add as promoting killing, is that as bad as having a killer promote?

Yea, I think that was in PC Gamer. Funny, Best Buy sold the games to a 13yr old and a 9 yr old with no problem but gave them an extremely hard time returning them even tho they had the receipt and they weren't opened. Best Buy pretty much sucks anyways.....I guess if you are a few fries short of a happy meal in the first place, then any type of violent media influence can be bad. But for me, I like the graphic violence

Moycon, NE146 - you guys rule !!!

I was pretty bored so I figured I'd start a thread or two I'm with ya all the way Jag. Hell, I listened to metal for years - that was the devils music and I play video games. I should be on deathrow according to some "experts"
-
I kinda thought Teela from He man was pretty hot myself
-
lol But to think, some people may get turned on by it.....
-
Sure why not ? I'm bored It really doesn't matter about my rights or yours or anyone elses. Responsibility for your own actions is what matters. Blaming everything and everyone for what you do is the problem. How does anyone know what the caused shooters in Columbine to do what they did ? They're dead - we can only speculate. Gee, they were making bombs in their garage and the parents never knew. Yea, it musta been the video games they were playing......... Too much exposure to violence may be a bad thing but take a look around - you can't avoid it. Games are not the problem and should not be blamed for what any idiot does.
-
Man, I am in the posting mood tonight......Ok, if you read and cared about my thoughts in Violence in games, well here's my take on nudity. I think it's worthless. No need for it. It will add absolutely NOTHING to any game. I can't imagine any game being better because some girl is running around naked. In real life - that's another story, in a porno - great, but in a game, it would be pretty useless. Say there's another Max Payne and you are sneaking into a drug house to knock off some baddies, you peek around the corner and BAM!!, some hooters lookin back at you. Why?! All that would do is make me use another bullet. If you are sitting there thinking " hey, I'd like that!" then think about this - playing the next Metal Gear, peek around a corner, and BAM! some guys little winky staring back at you. Wouldn't be too cool now huh? See what I mean? Useless. We need more realism, but some things will not make a bit of difference so why bother.....
-
Ok, I just don't get it. This morning, my girlfriend saw one of the national morning shows and they were talking about the DC Loser - I mean Sniper. One of her comments was that she - being some kinda behavior expert - said that this may be a competition between friends who play "shooting" type video games. I know this is normal to blame games because most of us gamers that have been around since the 2600 know how video games have been blamed for everything through the yrs. but I think it's time to realize that games aren't the root of all evil. I remember when Mortal Kombat hit the arcades That game is pretty much the reason why there's a rating on games now. I don't recall any instantances of hearts being ripped outta peoples chests or heads knocked off because of that game. I have a 7yr old kid. I don't let him play with toy guns because I really don't think that a gun should ever be a toy period. I also don't let him watch "r" rated movies or play any "m" rated games. I let him play Halo all the time. He loves the game. But homework, chores, and respect come before anything else for him. I for one love the violence in games. When I Play some DTR, I think it's great to see a guy's head get blown off. Max payne was sweet when blood would go all over the wall. And the Sniper mode.... Why is it that my 7 yr old can watch the news - which has NO rating no matter what the content, see commercials for the Army, Navy,etc....and that's ok, but I shouldn't be able to have realistic video games(finally) because some people think it isn't good for society because they are too violent? I think games need to be more violent. Oh and in case anyone cares, I've never been in a fight, don't own a gun, and have never had a desire to kill anyone......

If you go thru 2 times I am almost positive it ends. Now, it's been quite a few yrs, but for some reason I remember beating it. I may be wrong or maybe it was on something other than the 5200, but.....Anyways, Dreadnaught Factor ends? Never knew that. What happens? Jay

Gyruss ends too

In case you never noticed, Sony charges you for 4 player game play, save capabilities, harddrive(coming soon), and network capabilities. WTF is with that ?!
