  1. I think Harbor Escape would qualify. The rest of these were just random thoughts: Like you've mentioned, there are some which are borderline -- mostly due to some aspect being a break with reality. Without knowing exactly what you're going for it's hard to decide if they're useful to you or not. I'll go ahead and throw them out here. G.I. Joe Cobra Strike and Snoopy and the Red Baron. You know, with fictional licensed characters and added foolishness. M.A.D. and Missile Command are futuristic, but could be considered as a reaction to Cold War paranoia. Let's see.... Well he was GENERAL Custer. Also, in response to Commando Raid, I think you're actually being attacked by androids -- in case that makes any difference to your project.
  2. Spacemaster X-7: A must have, no question about it! Pitfall II: I'm not a huge fan of the Pitfalls, but it's still a great game. It's worth it just to see and hear it running on the good ol' 2600. Spitfire Attack: It's fairly repetitive, but still fun for awhile. Desert Falcon: To this one, I have to say, "Meh.." But with that many games, it might as well be in there.
  3. Interesting on the power supply thing. I've read either here or elsewhere on the net about someone else that couldn't make the CD run off of the Genesis PSU. I guess it varies. I wonder if it's more the console or power supply?
  4. Probably not the case, but it's worth asking. Are you using a Genesis power supply in place of the original? A Genny PSU will run cartridge games, but can't handle CDs. Oh and when/if you do open it, be mindful of the little button in the bottom of the CD compartment. If it's not lined up when you put the halves back together, the lid won't indicate open and closed correctly. I went through all this when I got my X'Eye also.
  5. That was exactly it! I hadn't noticed, but the bottom arm has a very slight curve upward. Luckily I was able to just swap the top and bottom arms since the the top slider block has more clearance. Thanks MrRetroGamer!
  6. That sounds logical. I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip!
  7. For the case, maybe you could find an existing enclosure from some other piece of electronics? Maybe even a gutted console with all the ports added in. I think the guys with the original Jaguar molds are going to be doing a run of white or clear cases. There's a thread in the Jag forum about that. I don't know if that would be big enough for you purposes though. If you can build a suitable mold, there are a lot of resin products out there you might be able to use. You'd have some finishing work with sanding, polishing and painting to get it really professional looking. You might also think about plexiglass. It sounds like you've got access to woodworking tools, so you'd be able to handle cutting and shaping. Use the chemically bonding plexiglass glue to put the pieces together. That stuff basically welds it together so you shouldn't have to worry too much about seams. Then just finish it up with a coat of paint.
  8. Well my 5200 came in last night. I am very impressed! After the 2600 I think this is going to be my favorite Atari system. I was lucky enough that one of the 6 controllers I've accumulated over the years actually worked well enough to enjoy a few games before I set about tearing any apart and rebuilding. Here's my issue. The controller with the smoothest most precise joystick feel seems to be hung-up somehow. Left, right, and up, are perfect. Down works fine to a point, but physically stops before it gets to the bottom of its range. When I push down as far as possible, I can see that it's not able to go as far as it should. It simply has less travel. This is limiting the onscreen action too. For example in Missile Command, I can't move the cursor down to right above my cities. I've had it apart and back together multiple times. I can't see where anything is binding. The pots inside seem like they're still anchored firmly. Anybody else ever run into something like this on a 5200 controller?
  9. I have several stacks of the interlocking MusicMate and similar holders next to the gaming TV. They're arranged by company then alphabetically. Boxes, if I have them, get stored in the closet. Manuals go in plastic sleeves inside big 3-ring binders. I could put my 2600 games away since I've got a Cuttle Cart 2, but if I have the actual cart, I still pull it out and play it. Maybe I'm just weird.
  10. 5200, hopefully showing up any day now to replace a dead one. I'm so excited! 7800 Various Pongs and clones Microvision Odyssey ^2 Intellivision Colecovision TI99/4A Master System Genesis + 32X +CD JVC X'eye Saturn NES SNES N64 The 2600 is the only one I'll indiscriminately buy games for. For everything else it has to be something I think I'll enjoy, or at least be really cheap! I'm a total pack rat, but at this point I can honestly say that this pretty well covers my gaming desires. I may eventually add an Xbox for MAME and emulators. Building a MAME Cab would be cool, but I don't think I could justify the space it would take up. I guess I wouldn't pass up a Channel F or Odyssey if they happen to cross my path. Not so much for playing the games but for being the first of their kind. Ooh, and a Vectrex. Crap, I'm doomed.
  11. I'm imagining a play mechanic similar to Decathlon. Of course he DID design a custom controller for Knight Rider...the mind boggles.
  12. I'm considering boycotting the number 3. Wii rhymes with 3. If you lay a 3 on its back it kind of looks like a W. Wii has a 3 character name. The other systems on the market, the PS3 the 360. Not only do they have 3 characters, they even have a 3 in the name. How many modern consoles out? 3 How many orphans as a result of the Wee for a Wii contest? 3 This thing goes deeper than any of us know, people!
  13. If it weren't for these boards, I wouldn't even know that the last model is supposed to be incompatible. I've got 3 7800s, all the last release. They seem to work fine with the usual suspects. I guess I just got lucky. Of course there's still Tigervision carts with the weird tabs inside. Never really thought Pause/TV Type switch issue shadow460 mentioned. I looked up the Fox games. Here are the ones affected. Beany Bopper: Pause Fantastic Voyage: Pause Fast Eddie: Pause Flash Gordon: Pause Porky's: Some difficulty settings Space Master X-7: Pause Turmoil: Pause
  14. Starship Titanic. Never played the game, but the book, written by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, was pretty awful.
  15. I know there is a free font out there called Atarian. Bauhaus, Blippo, Moderna, Pump, or Expressa are also similar. None of them are exactly like the Stellar Track label though. ------ *edit* Oh, screenshot. Nevermind!
  16. The Boss is IIRC black and gray. Its only button is on the stick instead of the base. The bat handle and ball handle are identical aside from the shape of the stick. All 3 of these sticks use leaf springs.
  17. I think the only 2600 stick I've never found broken, or had break on me is the Wico bat controller. I'm not crazy about using them though. Slik Stiks are nice and responsive, but the plastic tabs inside the base that hold the contacts are prone to breaking. I had a Tac 2 (bought used) for about a year. It was a fantastic joystick, but something broke internally. I don't remember exactly how it broke though. It looked like it had lived a hard life before I got it.

    Am I Wrong?

I wouldn't let anyone talk me out of something I own and enjoy simply because of some superior attitude on their part. You want to REALLY give your buddy a heart attack? Make a fake Quadrun label and stick it to a Pac-Man cart, then let him catch you using it for a drink coaster.
  19. Are we only talking consoles here because Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing for PC catches a lot of flack for being a buggy, unfinished piece of crap. Really though, there are so many ways a game can suck. Which suckiness factor carries the most weight? "Bad" is so subjective. That makes it really hard to compile one list -- especially when limited to 10 slots. FMV is often recognized as lending itself to limited gaming interraction with the resulting product being hard to even consider a video game. In that respect it would be very easy to fill 10 slots with just FMV games that are uninspiring dreck. Lopsided lists aren't very fun though. Maybe it could be broadened by creating a series of lists. Categories could be comprised of different ways games can suck. Bugginess, poor control/execution, being overhyped and then not living up to expectations, etc... If there has to be just one list, you could rate the games in those categories and create the list from those with the most overlap in all areas. Of course we'd probably just end up with a bunch of FMV games again. Hmm... maybe just a list of non-FMV games that suck.
  20. I almost chose the Vader because that was my first system, and the all black just looks cool, but over all I have to choose the Light Sixer by Atari. It has all six switches on the front without the cartridge slot issues the Heavy Sixer has.
  21. I went and looked at my local TRU. Still $99.99 there. I'll have to keep my eye on them.
  22. Thanks for the heads-up. I might pick one up at that price. That's really not a bad deal at all considering it's also a DVD player.
  23. And to think, all this time I've been dissing David Crane's grandma! Sorry David, sorry David's grandma, but I still cannot enjoy Slot Machine.
  24. Slot Machine comes to mind as having no redeeming value.
