  1. I have a harder time getting really into any of the older systems I never played when younger. It must be a nostalgia thing. I don't think anything could ever displace the 2600 as most played system. I have a lot of systems I don't play, although part of that is just not having the room to set them all up right now. In the last year I've gotten an Intellivision and Colecovision, but not played either very much. The Coleco is great, the Intellivision...I want to like it, but the controllers just ruin if for me. I have lots of good games on other systems that have controllers with a normal interface. When gaming time is limited it's hard give the Inty a fair shake. For me, if it's not hooked up I'm probably not going to dig it out to play it. One day, one day....(the plaintive mantra of many a space-deprived classic gamer) I will have them all set up in one giant entertainment center of doom. And it will be glorious! That was supposed to happen this summer, but given the recent torrential downpour and the condition of my basement it's not looking good. I have the tools, the plans are already drawn up, maybe in our next house. One day, one day......
  2. Seconded on Spacemaster X-7. This is a great one that hardly ever gets mentioned. If it were more common, it would beat out many of the 2600's well-known great games people tend to put in their top ten lists. Bump 'n' Jump. I guess it's not really an oddball game, but you don't hear much about the 2600 version. Addictive gameplay. Time Pilot. I enjoy this one quite a bit. If you like the plane levels in Combat, this is probably the best substitute on the 2600 for when you can't find a 2nd player. Encounter at L5. The game CAN get kind of dull, but the control scheme is unique enought that it keeps pulling me back for a few rounds. I like topics like this. Sometimes they'll give me the nudge I need to give a 2nd chance to a title that's been collecting dust.
  3. Hey I used to have that action figure. He came with KITT. I still have the car somewhere, but David became decapitated at some point. I tried gluing it back on but it would never stay. Alas, poor David! I knew him, Horatio.
  4. I thought it started out OK, but really took a nosedive about half-way through. No Space Invaders?!!!? Unless I missed something, they didn't include ANY "death from above" or typical Shmup type games. The closest I saw were Geometry Wars and Spacewar.
  5. Ain't that the truth! I wish I had a nickel for every time that's happened!
  6. Heh, this game is a bit of a letdown after looking at the cool cartridge artwork. It's pretty tedious if you play the default level with the slowmotion cars. Some of the other levels are better.
  7. It's amazing what ends up in thrift stores. Sounds like you're a bit of a book collector. I've been building up my library, but not really aiming for collectibility. That's really cool on meeting Douglas Adams. Too bad he's gone now. The world needed more Dirk Gently novels.
  8. Would you want it in your mouth after it's been in your rectum? Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!
  9. Probably my best thrift find ever, though not game related. A really nice hardbound edition of "Life on the Mississippi" by Mark Twain, with illustrations by Thomas Hart Benton I like Mark Twain and I appreciate a quality-made book, but this one is actually signed inside the cover by Thomas Hart Benton!
  10. Looks more like the Intellivision version, which IIRC are normally gold.
  11. Not to be too alarmist (They've been OK since 81 after all) but cardboard can have a fairly high acid content and could start to discolor the ink. Who knows, maybe it's not any more acidic than the Atari boxes themselves. I think I just talked myself in a circle there....
  12. Oh no, now we're starting to get into "Official Atari Handshake" territory!
  13. I thought you could own firearms in England if you can provide a decent explanation of why you want one, belong to a gun club, have gun safe, and open yourself up to random inspections to make sure you're following the law. Target shooting and limited hunting are still allowed aren't they? I can see why very few people would bother though. Honestly, I'm not trying to do the whole gun thing either, just curious if there really is a total ban. I too like Duck Hunt, but I wish the NES version had retained the arcade's ability to shoot the dog. Does that make me a bad person?
  14. If you're interested in the other stuff, why limit yourself? Knowing what the competition was up to is also part of knowing about and appreciating all things Atari.
  15. Hard to tell at that size I guess. Avant Garde also looks like a good match. Can't quite tell if the top stroke of the 1 is correct though. If you've got a program that can edit vector artwork, you could probably tweak a few irregularities pretty easily.
  16. Diablo. Click, Click, clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick, Click.....Click. Sigh
  17. This must have been the weekend for finds! I was at a fleamarket looking through a box of womens' big and tall girdles and support hose when I started finding some 2600 games mixed in! Anyway, I got the entire box for $1.50. Mixed in with everything else, I found this, but unfortunately no game.
  18. So what sort of hazing rituals would you be will to submit to if we don't like the final product?
  19. - Not a Space pirate Good Point! I was mainly thinking bounty hunter, but no doubt Jango has pulled some piratical moves in his day. Now we're making some progress!
  20. - Pirate - Pirate - Hmm, not quite the Jolly Roger, but kind of Pirate-like - Might be pirated music he's listening to, hard to tell - Not a Pirate -Not a Pirate - Not a Pirate Hope this helps! P.S. That thumb's up thing isnt a pirate.
  21. I think I've got one of those postcards somewhere too. A web search for the decal turned up a link to our very own Random Terrain's website. M-Network Decal
  22. Nice set-up! I see that Joe uses the Activision style hold with his thumb on top of the stick.
  23. Yikes! 8th grade art class colored pencil sketches! Wow it's a hodgepodge of the Atari Advantage Catalog only crappier!
  24. Nice. Did you not listen to what the person typed who so generously offered to GIVE you what you were after? Hey, don't be too hard on ol' jonneyd@comcast.net. He's probably just in a bad mood from all the spam email he's been getting. You can only take so many suggestions that your manhood isn't what it should be before you start getting touchy.
