  1. Between you and CPUWIZ and his itchy butt! Didn't he catch that itchy butt from Moycon?
  2. Awesome haul for $10 bucks! Must not be many collectors that go there, or else you just had perfect timing. I've never found anything older than NES in a pawnshop.
  3. I'd rather they didn't, but there's not much you can do to stop them or beat them to the good stuff. I guess you could always buddy up to a thrift store employee and get them to set stuff aside for you. That works for some people, although there's a good chance there's already someone who works there that saves videogame stuff for themselves or a friend. I stop at thrifts fairly often on my way home from work, but they're so picked over that I rarely stop at any that aren't right on my way. I really do enjoy finding stuff in the wild, but with gas prices the way they are and how rarely anything turns up it's not hardly worth it. Here's the way I figure it. If you've got an average job with a steady income, even if you have to buy everything at eBay prices, you've still got a better life than some sad bastard that sits in a thrift store all damn day.
  4. Paddles should work 100% with the 7800. It's probably just the set you have. That's bad luck though, in my experiences the paddles are pretty robust, aside from needing cleaned now and then.
  5. I like Imagic, but I don't play the games as often as Activision's. I looked back at my Top 10 list from the Top 100 Atari games of all time thread and see that Beamrider, Seaquest, HERO, and Enduro make my top 10. I think I'd have to get out to top 25 or so before an Imagic game would make it in there. I do like a few of Activision's timed games though. I like seeing if I can beat my previous score. I can't stand Grand Prix, but for some reason I enjoy Sky Jinks. Random Terrain, I've got wonder how you feel about re-reading a book or watching a movie again? The Ernest Adams quote in particular calls this comparison to mind. Granted, they are a different medium, and most people don't sit down to re-read a book or fast-forward a movie just to see if they can get through it faster the next time. Maybe it's a little off-topic, but perhaps the answer to that question will have some bearing on your feelings about static vs random gameplay. Some people just don't enjoy that sort of repetition. Some folks do. I think most of us fall somewhere in the middle.
  6. *edit* Taken care of. Thanks CPUWIZ! *edit* My 4-port 5200 is dead and I'm looking for some working guts to swap into it. Anybody got one with a broken case they're willing to part with? I'm also looking for a new powersupply. Thanks!
  7. You know , I've been thinking about getting Q*Bert. How does he fair using the 2600 joystick? It's not so easy to tell playing it through an emu , with a sidewinder no less. It controls pretty well with a little practice. Just remember to hold the joystick at an angle with the fire button corner pointed straight away from you. @ kirax7: Check out the "Top 100 2600 games of all time" thread that is pinned to the top of the 2600 forum. It's got tons of personal top 10 lists, plus a consolidated master list with all the votes considered. A good general rule of thumb is that the common games are usually pretty decent. Game quality gets a little more spotty the higher up the rarity list you go. Oh, and Welcome!
  8. Picked up Time Soldiers and Power Strike for the Sega Master System for $5 each, CIB. Only an average deal on Time Soldiers, but I think I more than made up for it on PS. It's the special U.S. promotional release with blue-printed box. It's a good shooter too.
  9. I've done that before but I sen it in a jar Sent it to my sister in law cause she sent me an envolope full of her toe nail clippings I have a weird family So were you marking any special occasions?
  10. Maybe they know something you don't.
  11. Like others, I've branched out into other systems. That's partly due to finding other things while looking for Atari stuff, plus reading the Classic Gaming General forums and wanting to try out games and systems that get discussed. I played other systems as a kid through friends and relatives, but Atari will always be number one for me. Lately, I haven't played much of anything. With a new baby in the house I don't find a lot of spare time. That, and my "Man Room" now holds everything that came out of the bedroom that became the nursery. I can hardly get to anything right now.
  12. If they seem like the type that wouldn't be too concerned if they damage it, because "It's just old junk anyway, why are you so upset?" you'd be better off setting up an emulator for them. For those with a casual interest, that's going to be fine. It all depends on the person, but even my best friend since childhood, I'd never loan anything of value. I love him like a brother, but he's hard on his stuff. His family was fairly well off and for him it was easy come, easy go.
  13. Chris, was this it? http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3155
  14. Nice collection. It's satisfying to add a new title when your collection gets that big. It's interesting how everyone divides their collection up for counting purposes. Surely I'm not the only one obsessed enough to keep three counts. Total carts, (includes what I consider major label variations, but not exact duplicates) Unique titles, (Pelé's Soccer and Championship Soccer would count as 2 titles) Unique games, (Pelé's Soccer and Championship Soccer would count as 1 game)
  15. Could even be crappy old Space Jockey.
  16. OK my meager accumulation is small potatoes compared to anyone who has bothered to put any substantial amount of money into their collection so my opinion is probably of little value. But still, please bear with me. I don't think one million would be that outrageous. That collection would contain lots of one-of-a-kind items, all kinds of software and hardware prototypes, making the collection itself one of a kind. Also, at that point you have to start considering the amount of time and effort it took simply to have tracked down and amassed all of that stuff. That collection would be more than the sum of its parts.
  17. Nice set-up, FABombjoy! A couple questions for you. What type and where is the television you hook all those up to? I don't see one in your photos. Are the systems on the upper shelves a pain to play, being up so high? Mostly I'm thinking of controller cord length. I too have been thinking over some different ways of organizing my consoles. Thanks.
  18. The trouble with the plastic bag is, sure it's gross, but they don't have to open it. Ideally, you'd want something air-tight that opens along with the box lid. Also, a launching mechanism should not be ruled out.
  19. 30th is neither Gold or Pearl, it is Emerald. And some of us have been months working on 30th anniv. specific releases But....????? Maybe consoles use a different scale than weddings.
  20. Do you think the clone systems have souls? I think they would.
  21. We had a 386DX that my brother-in-law built for us out of spare parts around 92-93, about the same time that the first Pentiums were the new thing. It saw heavy use playing Wolfenstein 3D and Scorched Earth. I also used it to write a few papers for school. My younger sister took it to college with her and used it for at least the first year, mostly for writing papers. That would have put the end of its regular usage about 2001. I think my mom still has it in her shed.
  22. That is funny! I think there is a problem with the score though. *edit* That, and now that I think about it a bit more, you don't actually respawn back on your own side again after you get shot. That would actually be more fair than how you can keep your poor opponent spinning almost indefinitely!
  23. I think I've actually met this guy at fleamarkets and an antique mall where he used to have some space. Some of his prices are kind of crazy, but he's also given me some good deals. The 2 or 3 times I met him he seemed like a pretty nice guy.
  24. Surely you can be more inventive than that.
