  1. Christmas of 1983 as a family present. I think the Vader model came with Combat and Pac-Man as the pack in games. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.) I think we also opened Video Pinball and Human Cannonball that same day.
  2. Is it just me, or does the Jag look a little scared of Santa?
  3. I know I've mentioned it elsewhere before, but a version of Indy 500 where you can shoot your opponent would be awesome. I think that would actually be the most fun in the "dot" games. Shoot your opponent to momentarily freeze them. Or maybe even be able to shoot the dot to collect it, in addition to being able to drive over it. Your buddy is about ready to drive over the dot, and BAM, you shoot it out from under him! Sounds fun to me. I don't know how you'd handle the shooting with just the driving controller though.
  4. On my CV it ended up being a loose fitting plug where the power supply goes in the back of the console. I guess it was just loose and worn out. If I use the roller controller's pass through power plug it works perfectly.
  5. All feelings about police aside. To the guy who thinks they should have tried for an extremity, you watch too much TV. Unless they're standing perfectly still, letting you choose your shots, you aim for the trunk.
  6. Absolutely! I keep a 3-ring binder next to the television set. It's mostly Atari, but there are a few NES scores thrown in. There is also a page with my wife's favorite games and scores.
  7. You're looking for 4 suspects. You're going to an apartment where 4 guys live. You've got a guy that's (alledgedly) already demonstrated violent behavior coming toward you holding something roughly gun-sized and he has a big ass German Shepherd with him. Just guessing here, but the apartment was probably poorly lit also. I'd hate to be a cop in that situation.
  8. Bubble Bobble and Mario Bros come to mind. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
  9. You didn't mention what brand of paper you're using, but the Epson printers tend to like the Epson brand photo papers better than other kinds. I've had great luck with Epson photo papers, but the stuff I've used is heavier than what you'd want to print a manual on.
  10. But how many more night label or text labels have you seen. I've had many Atlantis night labels go through my hands. I've passed on way more than 3 night label Atlantis carts in my collecting days. If this is the case, the day label should be listed more rare than the night label. Right now they are the same. Oh, no argument there. It's certainly more scarce than the night label. I was just kind of surprised from this and other related topics about people never having found one in the wild. Then again, there are other R2s, like 2600 Crossbow, that I've never encountered.
  11. When you put it that way, it is more forgiveable. I was going to say how it's funny that backwards compatibility was never that big a deal until the PS2 came along, but then I got to thinking about the 7800 and the 5200's adaptor for the 2600. Somewhat similarly there were the 2600 adaptors for Coleco and Intellivision. Sega Genesis had the SMS attachment. Granted, except for the 7800, none of those were out of the box compatible, and even that skipped a console generation. To me, backwards compatibility isn't that much of an issue. I'd rather see that R&D go into making the new consoles better, and perhaps even reducing costs of the final product. Of course, this is all coming from a guy that doesn't own any console newer than an N64 and has no special insights into the inner-workings of the gaming industry. So maybe I'll just shut my big mouth.
  12. Must be a regional thing or else I've just had strange luck. I know I've got 1, maybe 2 rattling around somewhere and I've passed on at least 3 more I've seen.
  13. LQQK RARE! BMX Airmaster: Eat My Ass. Super rare fore-runner of BMX XXX.
  14. I've been buying the old switched powerstrips that used to be popular for computers. They have one master switch and usually 5 other outlets, each with their own separate switch. That way everything is plugged in, but you're only drawing power on what's actually in use.
  15. Poor Pitbull, all he's got is boxes.
  16. I'm not sure that anyone was putting you down or trying to sound elite. I think what the guys that have been at it longer are talking about is that initial transition from a dirt-cheap multitude of gaming stuff to hit or miss. Now we're seeing the transition to almost nothing being available outside of eBay or the "I know this stuff goes for a lot of money on eBay, so give me $10 for Pac-Man" crowd. Of course your geographic location can make a big difference too. I've only been somewhat actively thrifting for the past 4 years or so, and I've noticed a gradual decline in that short amount of time. It always picks up a little during the spring and summer though when people are more likely to be doing housecleaning. It's easy to get more pessimistic about thrifting this time of year.
  17. Yeah, I don't think they were ready for the 2600. If you'll notice, the two newest inductees are the first Hall-of-Famers to rely on electricity.
  18. *looks at title* *looks at opening post* OK I'll take the bait. Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em. Actually Seaquest is one of my favorite games. It would be cool to be able to max it out, but I don't think I'll ever get there.
  19. You can check that very easily. Just take a few Parker carts (e.g. James Bond or Q*Bert's Cubes), peel of the lable and plug it in. I've got James Bond, Frogger II, and Mr. Do!'s Castle. No Q*bert's Qubes though. I'll let you know how it goes. *How embarrassing.
  20. There's at least one guy around here who has advanced the theory that any PB game that looses a label automatically transforms into Frogger. He may be on to something. Following that logic, I guess that would that make any non-Frogger Parker Bros cart a tadpole.
  21. I seem to recall this being discussed in the past about the smooth chrome-looking switches. I think the general consensus was that they are sometimes found on promotional consoles (but not all) and sometimes on factory reconditioned systems.
  22. Ataripitbull, does the box actually have a weight limit printed on it? I have a loose one that I haven't tried out yet. I'm nowhere near 210, but even then, I don't know if I'd feel quite right standing and rocking around on a 30 year old piece of plastic.
  23. Oh, see there's your problem. You really need to play it with the original Intellivision controller to fully appreciate it. I too prefer the 2600 version.
